Auspicious start, Ira! Fortunately, I won't be faced with the Ira vs. Mannix dilemma this sets up. I'll listen to the show's third hour via archive, and I'll DVR Mike Connors, Gail Fisher, et al., while asleep.
  Swag For Life Member 12:28am
Ira:

Gaylord, it may be a controversial statement, but I'm not afraid to take an unpopular position: We're enjoying Cannon more than Mannix these days.

“We're enjoying Cannon more than Mannix these days.” Waaaay too polarizing. WFMU is not the place for this.
  12:31am

Joe b, I’ve been watching so much mannix on me tv and have never seen a neil diamond episode. Are you making that up?

Indeed, there's Mannix but Cannon!! A true gourmand.
  12:34am
JakeGould:

I think DJs are being forced to take some classic TV detective pro/con stance but I cannot speculate any further out for the good of the station.

Strapping myself in.

Joeybug69:

Still waiting for them to bring Kojak back to the lineup.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am
mariano:

No love for Barnaby Jones?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am
ultradamno:

They did a reboot, briefly, and they made his name Ironsides. Like they didn't want that to be his nickname, so he's Joe Ironsides, or whatever, who just happens to be in a wheelchair. Weirdly brilliant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am
Gaylord Fields:

Ira, I skew more towards Cannon too, but seeing as your post-show travel regimen likely interferes with your Cannon viewing, I wanted to honor your sacrifice for doing this show. Also, Lou Rawls was the guest star on yesterday's Mannix.
  12:36am
JakeGould:

Here we go… The libs and their Kojak and Rockford allegiances. The agenda is so clear here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am

I haven't seen Mannix since I was a kid. I loved that show. Well, I loved pretty much all cop and detective shows when I was a kid.

@JakeGould: I actually named a recent show of mine "A QM Production" — I forgot exactly why, but it made sense at the time. Probably just wishful thinking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am

Till I was 9 I only saw Mannix, Cannon, Quincy, etc dubbed in Spanish. I swear the same actor voiced each lead character. It was kind of shocking when I heard their actual voices.

Also were all tapes of McMillan & Wife destroyed?

DJs should only express their classic TV show preferences via their musical choices and not through their actual opinions let along literal playlist titles. What has happened to this station I would drink all afternoon to?!? A shande!
Avatar 12:39am

@McGroovey: No, M Squad is a 50's show that I watched on DVD. The star is Lee Marvin. It's pretty great...

@JoeB: “Opus Mixtum” wow! I learn so much about tolerance via tolerating DJs extreme opinions here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42am
McGroovey:

Huh. I love those old fifties TV shows, because they were a bit more like radio, and I love radio drama. Drammer.

Some are in YouTube. Most didn't last far into the sixties. The TV version of Richard Diamond is good. It's different from the radio version. I think it stars a young David Jansen?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am

And my phone makes random substitutions that I don't always catch.

McMillan and Wife got WIPED?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44am
mariano:

Speech! Speech! Speech!
  12:44am
JakeGould:

Also seriously, I have been watching classic Cagney and Bogart films. Not too many worth watching to be honest. But I like that old direction where everything is well composed and staged and acting actually had to work. Also, “White Heat” is such a messed up film… So clearly the basis for Tony and Livia’s creepy relationship on “The Sopranos.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45am
McGroovey:

Hey, my mom has concentration issues also, but she was never on Concentration. She still has all her faculties, though. I shoulda called my mom tonight

I’m late to the conversation, but would like to add my useless 2 cents:

I was at Film Forum one time seeing Peckinpah’s RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY. 15 min into the film, Lou Reed and, I guess, an assistant, entered the theatre noisily, looking for seats. The usu FF crabs started shushing & hissing, sweet Lou prattled on, finding the two adjacent seats in the middle of a crowded row, provoking more imprecations and yammers. Lou fell asleep, rather loudly, abt 5 min later, a kind of rhythmic droning snore (said some reviews) then woke up after another 45 min, said loudly “THIS MOVIE SUCKS, LET’S GO” and then proceeded to upset the already upset cluckers and tsk-ers. One of his better late performances, I now can’t see RTHC without thinking of Lou Reed.

@Todd: M Squad is great. Have you ever seen Peckinpah’s The Westerner series. I bet Sterling Morrison loved it.
@ Chop Scott: that Lou Rawls Mannix was the Citizen Kane of Mannix-es. Tops. Look for the ep w Buffalo Springfield
