Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Rich in Washington:

I remember one WFMU DJ used a brief loop from a song for his talkover music and on his final show, he released the loop to reveal what the song was all these years and it was rather astonishing and moving.
  12:38pm Funky16Corners:

Whaaaaaaaat?!? Where did THIS come from?

The 45 label says it’s a Tru-Glo-Town production, so I assume with Gardner’s blessing

One of the best breakfasts in SF is at Boogaloo's. They have those dance-instruction feet for decorations!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm chresti:

Hi Phillippe, nice to see you.
  12:41pm bigplanetnoise:

I suffered for years with a cracked copy of this 45 until I finally upgraded. Truth be told, it doesn’t sound like the old familiar without the weird, offbeat clicks....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hey chresti, how ya been?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm joe:

'ello folks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm CHUCK ROAST:

Will Ray Barretto please stand up.

The Emperor’s version has its charms, too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Uncle Michael:

Joe!
  12:45pm Funky16Corners:

Oh yeah! One of my all time fave 45s!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm chresti:

Better, with the heat letting up a little, how 'bout you? @Phillippe
  12:45pm bigplanetnoise:

I feel like I’m back at the Cheetah
  12:47pm Funky16Corners:

I’m pretty sure you could do a whole set of Jerry O boogaloo songs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Uncle Michael:

wouldn't be prudent...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Rich in Washington:

I started a Hawaiian Shirt Day thing at work once. I'd play the clip from Office Space were the boss announces a Friday Hawaiian shirt day over the intercom and some of us would show up so be-shirted, confusing and annoying the older coworkers.
I'd actually thought about reviving it but now I'm glad I didn't.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Phillippe Bastille:

@chresti been good. Had to chill my FMU habit for a little bit, unfortunately. I had started a new project with content I knew nothing about, so my brain would get a little overtaxed with music on. Can't compartmentalize like I used to.
  12:52pm Funky16Corners:

Timmy!
  12:53pm Funky16Corners:

So far I have all of these 45s except for the Lewise Bethune, which I have already started looking for!

I'm a boy and I like to boogaloo but I am not a boogaloo boy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm chresti:

Phillippe, I've had to cut back, as well. Back to work 4 days a week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Phillippe Bastille:

My bride noticed I didn't have music on and kept asking me what was wrong lol

Looking at the wiki boogaloo movement page, none of the members look like they dance at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Jeff Golick:

They're not Emma Goldman-type revolutionaries.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Uncle Michael:

Grays!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Jeff Golick:

If you're taking reservations, @UM, I think I'd like to ride out the End Times at your place.

“Boogaloo originated in New York City mainly among teenage Hispanic and Latino Americans. The style was a fusion of popular African American rhythm and blues (R&B) and soul music with mambo and son montuno, with songs in both English and Spanish.”

Thank you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm chresti:

Kim Sorise @Spanky
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Phillippe Bastille:

@drjazz I scored a pretty decent smoker last fall from Walmart, of all places. They clear their garden center out for all their Christmas stuff fairly early so all the summer stuff goes on clearance (got my mower that way as well). They're pretty idiot-proof. Fill the hopper with wood pellets, plug it in, set the temp, then all you have to do is keep coming back to baste it. They have general guidelines about how long things cook and the internal temps that indicate when the fats and connective stuff breaks down, so when you get to about an hour before the guidelines say your meat should be done, you start checking the internal temp.

Boogaloo! Hi Uncle Michael - glad to be listening
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm chresti:

Marty McSorley, often plays some Ray Barretto, on his show, Saturday nights.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Otis Fodder:

Hello all, tuned in and listening. Interview mix sounds great, like you both are in the same room. Cut the chatter, spin the digital platter, :)
  1:43pm dan:

Otis Williams and Abdul Fakir must have two of the longest stints in the same group without a break.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm joe:

@dan we were having a conversation about longevity of group members the other day on a Sheena's board and they should have been mentioned
  1:48pm dan:

@Joe
Also in the process of breaking the records are Robert Lamm, James Pankow and Lee Loughnane in Chicago. Same group since 1967, no hiatuses.

We've had a camera on UM for a few weeks, and you are trippin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

The Specials were not a party ska band like say, Madness. The subjects of their work at that time were much more political.

Watch Blazing Saddles. Then watch it again.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Uncle Michael:

Sorry to all the people I failed to greet once I went into hosting-a-guest mode.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm doctorjazz:

@Phillippe Bastille-thanks for the info! I just noticed it, listen at work, but generally keeps me took busy to do more than an occasional quick post, in busy boards can't keep up with the conversation unless there's a lull. But I'll keep my eyes peeled; UM had been making my mouth water with his smoked food talk (even more today)
Thanks!
