Hey, everyone made it back home. Rains opened up as we hit our block. We went to a vigil and march. REALLY weird to be around so many people.

Good too, though.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm xtrakrispy:

Hey EFD, was there a theme, that I missed, as to both you and Ken playing Time has Come Today, today?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm coelacanth∅:

if there was apprehension about playing a song that was just played on the station, for what it's worth i heard "alabama" (Trane) 3 times in a day or 2.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Mike & Dusty:

i think i know the answer to the above question
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Pedro in Arlington:

Had to Google - Queen Esther sang on those Dylan-Petty tours but apparently not the earlier Bob gospel tours.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm xtrakrispy:

Or just the TIME HAS COME? #blm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm efd:

@xtrakrispy just that the time has come, today
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm xtrakrispy:

! Gotcha !

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm Mike & Dusty:

@Matt nor am i asking if you know where i can get some
  9:32pm JakeGould:

@Handy: That’s the one that started in Crown Heights, right? These protests in Brooklyn have been truly peaceful on the side of the protestors… Unless the NYPD suddenly twitches and instigates.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Handy Haversack:

What is UP with that bass tone?! Hotsie motsie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33pm Mike & Dusty:

language, @Handy
  9:34pm BH:

the "Tales from the Tour Bus" Rick James episode seemed to mention this song in regards to the relationship between Rick James and the Buffalo PD (not to be confused with Rick James relations with most other PDs out there)
Avatar 9:35pm slugluv1313:

@ john77 -- that is so cool!
how did i miss that???
saw him in 1983 -- Irving Plaza, i think (and his first show in the States?)
then with Lucky Dube -- 2002 i think?
he did a reading at Hue-Man Books for "Mi Revalueshanary Fren" -- incredible, so powerful, moving, motivating

i was thinking of a different Bellrays song but awesome we were
both thinking Bellrays
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm Uncle Michael:

Seriously. I bow to you, Evan.
  9:39pm BH:

5.1 earthquake in the California desert, felt in LA and Vegas. In case you weren't convinced that the world is a game of Sim City 2000 where somebody keeps going to the disasters menu
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm Handy Haversack:

(Sorry, Dusty!)

@Jake, no from McCarren Park. We walked down Union as far as Broadway. I think that some people were maybe going farther, but as soon as we passed the precinct right before Bway, maybe 15, 20 cop cars came out to follow the group. Not sure if people were pressing on.

We still aren't feeling up to riding the subway (maybe that's stupid after all the people we were around today, though MOST were masked), so we peeled off at Bway and started walking back north.

Pretty clearly the cops are treating North Brooklyn A LOT different from other parts of the city, no way around that one. The Greenpoint precinct was not even particularly militarized.

The crowd, while in many ways very "new Brooklyn" was also passionate and angry and restrained and focused.

MAN, this is good stuff, efd!
  9:39pm steveL:

Kicking ass!!
Avatar 9:39pm slugluv1313:

yeah, i heard that there were earthquakes in Yellowstone Park too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm efd:

@Mike I wonder if you were thinking of "Revolution Get Down." Because that was in the running...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm Tome:

!<>!!<>!!<>!!<>!
Avatar 9:41pm slugluv1313:

hell yeah
because whitey still on the Moon . . .
Avatar 9:42pm slugluv1313:

the Revolution will not be televised
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm Mike & Dusty:

@efd I may have been thinking of that Now Time Delegation record though — she’s so distinctive I file them all together (in my mind’s mind)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm ultradamno:

This song and New York, New York were omnipresent when I was in high school
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:42pm Bootsie:

The Bellrays followed up by Grandmaster Flash... hells, yeah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Ye olde earthquake mappe: earthquake.usgs.gov...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm efd:

oh shoot, Mike - I'd forgotten about them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm Bootsie:

So much good stuff tonight. Even if it IS for shitty reasons...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm Mike & Dusty:

just the one record i think? on In the Red
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm Pedro in Arlington:

The Smithsonian had Grandmaster Flash on the National Mall for free just about a year ago. There are probably tanks now where the stage was.
Avatar 9:45pm slugluv1313:

@ ultradamno -- right?
this was EVERYWHERE, my first job outta college was by Columbus Cirlce, boom boxes blasting -- damn i miss that
Avatar 9:45pm ToTetsu:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm Tome:

when I hear ie .. Pat Duncan ,, back then on this station , I was like !<>!WoW!<>!
  9:47pm PJ:

1982 to 2020. Dare one hope that the right wing wave which engulfed this country under Reagan is finally pushed back and we begin to live with equal treatment under the law, for everyone?
  9:48pm JakeGould:

You mean 1776 (and prior) to 2020, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm Tome:

!<>!ScoobyDoobyDoo!<>!
Avatar 9:49pm Joe B:

well, 1982 was the year of that song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm Kat in Chicago:

My favorite song when I was nine, “Everyday People.”
  9:51pm JakeGould:

@JoeB: True, but none of this just popped out of nowhere fully formed.

FWIW, limiting my political blathering posts to focused stuff as of late to avoid rabbit hole discussions and unwanted “@” replies.
Avatar 9:51pm slugluv1313:

yeah, i was thinking Nixon, Eisenhower . . . hell going all the way back to 1492 :(
Avatar 9:55pm Joe B:

"none of this just popped out of nowhere fully formed." no shit.
  9:56pm JakeGould:

@JoeB: We’ve just gotta agree to agree and that’s about it.
  9:58pm PJ:

@jakegould: for sure, the rhetoric of 1776, as opposed to the practices of the time, informed my comment; much of what is good in this country is based on living up to those words, no matter how much we fail to acknowledge that all men are created equal.

But I was in high school in 1982, when The Message was everywhere, and I could feel things changing in the wrong direction after Reagan was elected. I‘m a white male, so I haven’t borne the brunt of the reactionary wave, but I do feel like maybe this is a real inflection point, and maybe things will really change now.
  10:02pm steveL:

Do anything you can to keep your foot on the gas. I’m not able to be on the street, but I’m backstopping a young friend who is playing a dedicated role in the protests.

As a former photojournalist, I’m very curious, by so far have steered clear. However, we’re seeing what we can do to give a journalistic voice to the people in the street, via my friend, who is committed to their decentralized structure. Wish us luck!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm Gaylord Fields:

efd: I was going to say I "enjoyed" the opening set, but I think I mean "appreciated" — but I do also mean "enjoyed," because those songs slapped, as the kids say.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm efd:

Thanks Gaylord, I appreciated and enjoyed reading your comment.
Avatar 10:09pm Joe B:

The Duncan Reid show was one of the best all-time at Monty Hall!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm Gaylord Fields:

@efd: Niiiiiice!
  10:10pm P-90:

DJ Gaylord said it all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm efd:

I can't believe I missed it! I think there must have been a site release for work that night, they're usually on alternate Thursdays.
  10:10pm sweet corn Lizzie:

Hi everyone. Gaylord, thanks for that show with Becky.
Avatar 10:12pm Joe B:

well efd you did see them the night before in studio B
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm Handy Haversack:

Gaylord was on with Becky?! I am never leaving the apartment again. It's not worth missing these things.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm efd:

True! But not the same as on stage!
  10:14pm JakeGould:

@Handy: An encore performance of this show from October 2019 which was like… 3 years ago… wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm Chop Scott:

Good Evening EFD!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Handy Haversack:

Ha!

That just raises the question: why the hell did I leave the apt. in October? Maybe I saw the future coming and was getting my licks in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm efd:

howdy Scott!
  10:18pm JakeGould:

“That just raises the question: why the hell did I leave the apt. in October?” Beer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm Handy Haversack:

Well, that has the ring of plausibility, Jake, it's true.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm efd:

The second track on the album is called "Motherfucker."
  10:22pm sweet corn Lizzie:

Oktoberfest, Handy?
Sorry I missed some of this show but had to listen to my buddy’s sports show on KFJC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23pm Handy Haversack:

It's always Oktoberfest someplace, SCLizzie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm efd:

The lesson here for anyone in a band: DON'T REHEARSE, apparently
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm efd:

Happy to have you at any time, Lizzie!
  10:24pm JakeGould:

@efd: They could have referred to it as “Market Farmer” or “Max Factor.”
  10:30pm Carmichael:

Heya Evan. Just below 100 out here in the man cave.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm medson:

I hear a little Vapors in this track.
  10:31pm Carmichael:

Whoa you played the grandmaster. Awesome!
  10:32pm Carmichael:

@medson, I really think so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm efd:

jeez Carmichael - any break since last week? I think it was 100 then as well.
  10:35pm Carmichael:

Strange, its up and down. Supposed to be 80 this weekend.
  10:35pm JakeGould:

For the benefit of EFD and others, Ken From Hyde Park had a great bad joke on another poor DJs playlist in response to that heat report:

• How hot is it?
• It’s so hot, I saw a robin using a potholder to pull a worm out of the ground.
• Heyo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:37pm efd:

Thank you Jake, I missed that joke's previous appearance and I'm not ashamed to say it elicited a laugh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm efd:

get the long johns out, Carmichael!
  10:38pm JakeGould:

No problem!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm ultradamno:

For some reason I had it in my head The Hollywood Brats came after The Boys, but it's the other way around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm efd:

right, Hollywood Brats were like late glam/proto-punk times
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm ultradamno:

Around the same time, for maximum confusion, were The Boyzz www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm efd:

and, in New York City, the Brats!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm ultradamno:

Yeah, very NY Dolls damaged.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:48pm Handy Haversack:

Either pronounced as in the sausage?
Avatar 10:49pm Joe B:

they have a new album out also!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm ultradamno:

I would hope that's how The Berlin Brats pronounced it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm efd:

@Handy you're thinking of the Milwaukee Brats.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm Handy Haversack:

They're the wurst!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:50pm Gaylord Fields:

So we're now discussing Bratz Dolls? Cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51pm medson:

Great interview Evan

Nice, Joe! Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm efd:

thanks Joe! They were very complimentary of the video they got from the MH performance before we started the interview!
Avatar 11:03pm Joe B:

IIRC Duncan didn't want the whole set up since they were planning to tour the rest of the year. understandable!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04pm efd:

right, that does make sense
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm Handy Haversack:

COVID song. Kate's band is going to release a quaransingle, too. I guess tomorrow?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17pm McGroovey:

Is this year really going to last forever? I sure hope not.
  11:17pm JakeGould:

What McGroovey said.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm Alex of Chicago:

Alcohol Funnycar is a name I haven't heard in a long long time, from when I was growing up in Seattle.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm Mr. Pumpy:

I went out today...socially!!! Oh my god, oh my GOD OH MY GOD!!! Yes...an hour drive and hanging in my buddy's driveway all distant and such. It was truly sublime! Hello all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm Mr. Pumpy:

Hola, efd and friends. I got a bit emphatic there, and rightly so! Hope all are well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm Handy Haversack:

Let's get you a cold compress, Mr. P!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm Mr. Pumpy:

Seriously, Handy...seriously! It was really something; what with the talking and seeing and all. How are you, man?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm efd:

@Joe Turnabout is fair play!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm efd:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm efd:

  11:51pm JakeGould:

With all of the social distancing rules out there Jack Nance’s “Wrapped in plastic…” takes on new meaning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm efd:

reminds me of something I'd want to find on a $3 LP I plucked out of a used bin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm Handy Haversack:

Yeah, I was in an actual crowd, Mr. P. VERY WEIRD. We also ran into several people we actually know, which involved a lot of weird I'm-not-hugging-you bobbing and weaving.
Avatar 11:53pm Bri The Beatnik:

This song gives off Matthew Sweet vibes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm Mr. Pumpy:

efd, thank you. I am more comfortable here long-term, albeit slightly less visibly elated. Thanks for having me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm Mr. Pumpy:

Handy, sounds weird and wonderful. Sounds like you were out supporting the cause. Good on you.
Avatar 11:57pm Michael Shelley:
