During the American Civil War 1861-1865 1in4 Southern men and 1in6 northern men died in the war to preserve the Union and free the Millions of adults and their children held as property. By Comparison if that per capita was extended to the Vietnam conflict (Remember to preserve the Vietnam experience in our memory as well! Memorial day is a day specifically created to honor the dead- Veterans day is for the living!) 4 Million U.S men would have died in Vietnam. The Civil War origins of Memorial day should be remembered always! Long live our Union and the Ideals it represents! Wake and bake baby!

We'd go into town for the parade and the shooting gun salute and wreath toss at the river and then another ceremony at the cemetery. Next came a hot dog BBQ at the park and playing. Then Dad would hang out at the VFW for a while in the afternoon. Good times!

Since I was a kid forced to attend the Memorial Day parade in Paterson NJ, I swore that I will never march in a line, carrying any flag. That was the start of decades of protest in one form or another and it has not stopped. I will refrain from politics but if we want the Democracy that so many women and men have sacrificed their lives for, we need change.

By Comparison if that per capita was extended to the Vietnam conflict (Remember to preserve the Vietnam experience in our memory as well! Memorial day is a day specifically created to honor the dead- Veterans day is for the living!) 4 Million U.S men would have died in Vietnam. The Civil War origins of Memorial day should be remembered always! Long live our Union and the Ideals it represents! Wake and bake baby!

We'd go into town for the parade and the shooting gun salute and wreath toss at the river and then another ceremony at the cemetery. Next came a hot dog BBQ at the park and playing.
