Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Doug Schulkind:

@listener james from westwood
It's nice having a reserve intro/outro for fill-ins.
  12:08pm Listener Gregory:

Took me a while to adjust my radio and get the show. I kept getting a scratching sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm chresti:

Hiya!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm doctorjazz:

Hi, up for some rainy Saturday Drumming!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm WR:

Rode in on that big wave.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Doug Schulkind:

We had our rain yesterday, doctorjazz.

I'm big waving hello, WR!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Doug Schulkind:

@Listener Gregory
This show will rub your belly and make your leg twitch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Doug Schulkind:

Today's episode of Give the Drummer Some is paying deepest respect to the miraculous tapestry of sound Mayuko creates with Play Vertigo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Greetings, Doug and WFMU kin. Watching the double rainbow while listening. Good stuff! What does it mean?! <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Doug Schulkind:

Granny! Knowing what it means is overrated. Asking what it means is the joy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Right ON.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

I hope Bear is enjoying the ride in the double bardo!
  12:18pm Irene:

Loving the strange and wonderful sounds coming out of my speakers right now. Perfect for this rainy day.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Doug Schulkind:

Richard Youngs is perfect for rainy days. And sunny days. And cloudy days. And dazed days.
Avatar 12:27pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Doug and all
  12:28pm JosephB:

That Richard Youngs was beautiful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm listener james from westwood:

Envious of the weather! We've had gloom all day without actually proving itself useful by raining. But this past week had bright sunshine aplenty, so you take the fog with the fun.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm Doug Schulkind:

"You take the fog with the fun." That phrase lingers in the air like a lovely aerosolized droplet of love.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

These sounds are stirring my ancestral blood
  12:35pm Listener Gregory:

How long will it take for the fun to arrive, though? I might call about my order.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm chresti:

Thank you for filling in for Mayuko, Doug.
Fog is fun if you don't have to drive thru it.
  12:35pm Listener Gregory:

Weird thing about the artists "Defibrillator & Peter Brötzmann" is that Peter Brötzmann is the scary part.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Doug Schulkind:

@chresti
When driving through fog, always use your low beams. If that doesn't work, try closing your eyes.
Avatar 12:36pm Brian in UK:

The god in me salutes the god in you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

chresti: i recall driving through fog on I5 and seeing a tunnel ahead. Then i realized…there are no tunnels on I5!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Doug Schulkind:

@Brian in UK
The god in me would like to share a pint with the god in you.

Appy to see you, Gary!

Welcome aboard, StringOFperils!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm chresti:

The Tule fog is intense @Granny. I always check the forecast when we take I5 to SF and back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Doug Schulkind:

Defibrillator are the Swiss brothers Artur and Sebastien Smolyn. They make noises.
Avatar 12:41pm StringOFperils:

They're very raucous, and full of chocolate.
Avatar 12:43pm StringOFperils:

Any word from Mayuko on the wagon trail out of NYC?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm listener james from westwood:

PS. Rain has started! Good against the fire hazard alerts we've had recently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Q - What does the Sargeant at Arms say at the start of a GTDS staff meeting?

A - Drum roll, please.
Avatar 12:44pm Brian in UK:

When I hear Peter Brötzmann, I relate him to Jackson Pollack.
  12:45pm Listener Gregory:

Find it hard to believe a record called "Pagan Festival: An Exotic Love Ritual for Orchestra" was released in 1959... with harps.
Avatar 12:45pm Brian in UK:

Cheese and Onion roll for me please sir.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Doug Schulkind:

@StringOFperils
Mayuko has much to do in packing up her home, studio, and work space. She will resurface soon!
Avatar 12:45pm duke:

What day is this?
  12:45pm Listener Gregory:

@Brian, yes. The defibrillator duo can't possibly outdo him in making sounds. Not that it's a contest! But he would win.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

chresti: yep, that was it! The "tunnel" was a semi.
Avatar 12:46pm Brian in UK:

I seem to recall Dominic Frontiere doing string arrangements for a Dan Fogelberg album once.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

This set is tickling my fancy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Ok, i think i'm in the mood for flutes, please

I didn't know your fancy was ticklish, Granny Spicy Tuna. Good to know!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Doug Schulkind:

I went through my Dan Fogelberg phase. I bet it would be fun to get back in that phase.

Hello.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Doug Schulkind:

My mother's uncle Lou was a tangential member of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade. He didn't go to Spain, but was part of the stateside group that organized it. He was a lifelong plumber and union organizer. Later became the defacto mayor of Teaneck, New Jersey.
Avatar 1:10pm StringOFperils:

Whoa...two young girls from Burundi...how unusual to hear something that I actually have in my collection.

For the record, Bear said he was not on any substances at this time. This is pure awe and ecstasy. Haven't you ever felt that? i have!
  1:15pm Listener Gregory:

I remember the first time I saw the McRib sandwich; same reaction.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Doug Schulkind:

My goosebumps get goosebumps reading that. Geesebumps?
Avatar 1:17pm coelacanth∅:

i took a few pictures of a double rainbow in great sand dunes monument park but the one that came out perfect got some chemical splashed on it by the developer. oh well.
...i was fascinated by how dark it appeared in-between the 2 rainbows.
Avatar 1:19pm StringOFperils:

I had the atmospheric effect of a complete circle rainbow hanging over the park opposite my old apartment, from a 17th floor balcony, after rain. I was pretty quiet about it though.
Avatar 1:19pm coelacanth∅:

Granny @1.14 i didn't think he'd indulged in anything like that. i've experienced such -though i'm not as audible about it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

StringOFperils & coelacanth∅: so many ways to express awe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Doug Schulkind:

Secrets of the Blue Bag is a three-part suite: Primarily instrumental, the music is based around the 120 combinations that can be drawn from the first five notes of the diatonic scale, and was apparently inspired by Moore's discovery of the encryption engine developed by the 13th century hermeticist Raymond Lully.
Avatar 1:22pm StringOFperils:

I'll take a double expressawe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Ken From Hyde Park:

My scientific quest to find out if rainbows cast shadows has yet to turn up any findings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

i once pulled my car to the side of the road to gaze silently at a perfect rainbow around the moon, fields of crickets for my soundtrack
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Doug Schulkind:

@Ken From Hyde Park
Please please keep searching.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Granny Spicy Tuna (e/em):

Yikes ... news reports mention a fire on Pier 45 in San Francisco. I hope Granny or other WFMU folks are not affected.
Avatar 1:42pm coelacanth∅:

getting into the fog again -i once was in asheville and had to pick up my girlfriend at a train station at 1am, coming from nj -closest one being in south carolina.
i'm driving along the 4-lane highway, into the valley i hit a wall of fog. i suddenly at ~80mph couldn't see 3 car-lengths in front of me.
i decelerated and continued at maybe 20mph, starting to freak out that my girlfriend was about to be alone in a city, in a part of the world totally unfamiliar to her, until at least 2 am, which is how late i figured i'd be.
after driving around 10-15 minutes, a big tanker straight truck roared past me. i didn't even see it coming until it was nearly next to me.
i floored it, caught up and tailed it almost the whole way, ~70 mph. driver obviously knew the road very well.
so i was only a few minutes late.
