One interesting book I worked on used the term "domesecration" and basically posited that using horses and cows for food and labor (and the land needs that entailed) were the prime driver of human violence and that the entire history of war and conquest can be connected to it. It's a big swing, but I think there's something to it.

Stanley, the price was right, and the Ardbeg was very expensive, so I did it!

How people domesticated dogs is interesting but is there more on how cats domesticated people?

The Latin name for dogs should be "garbage-loving wolves." I also like to tell Bagpipe that all the smart dogs went back in the water.

northguineahills:

Actually, the domestication of dogs by humans was more symbiotic then one side, Although, cats invested their presence around humans, and those w/ more docile behavior were more likely to be domesticated, humans had a part in picking individual cats w/ domesticated behavior. One way cats ingratiated themselves to humans, was to 'meow', not found in wild cats.

Handy at 6:11, you made me think of this quote: “Until he extends the circle of his compassion to all living things, man will not himself find peace.”

also related, since Jews didn't see cats as a sign of Statan (and that was only amongst Western Catholic Christianity in the later medieval ages), and Jews had a higher survival rate w/ the Bubonic plague, due to the cats that hunted the rats (who carried the fleas), they were scapegoated which led to pogroms...

It is odd ultradmno, as cats were very common and venerated in Egypt (a major backdrop and location many times in the Bible).

From the Charles Portis' novel True Grit ""I have known some horses and a good many more pigs who I believe harbored evil intent in their hearts. I will go further and say all cats are wicked, though often useful. Who has not seen Satan in their sly faces?" Some preachers will say, well, that is superstitious "claptrap." My answer is this: Preacher, go to your Bible and read Luke 8: 26-33” (a passage that refers to an exorcism in which demons are cast into a pig)
