Hi Mary and wingdingers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Handy Haversack:

100 percent hello, Mary and all the wingnuts!

Hey, chresti!
Avatar 12:01pm Mary Wing:

Good morning, chresti! And we're off on whatever adventures!
Avatar 12:02pm Mary Wing:

It's not even a minute and chresti clicky-starred the entire show! <3 <3 <3

good morning, Mary Wing!
hi chrest, hi Handy! Ike!

Hey Marry! How are you?
Avatar 12:04pm Mary Wing:

Howdy Bob and Jake!
I'm good, just got out of the shower and had to run to the laptop to start the playlist, heh! Lemme finish getting dressed.

Hi spodi! Hi Handy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm Handy Haversack:

spodiodi, how's it going? Glad to see you.

a shelter-in-place "ding!" for everyone: www.zapsplat.com...
Swag For Life Member 12:10pm spodiodi:

it's going pretty well. how about you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Ike:

That whole hustling out of the shower at the last minute and running over to switch on the laptop ASAP sounds very familiar. It's possible I've done that a time or seven (or 47).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Showers are so 2019, anyway. Thanks for the ding page, Carmichael. Those would make great ringtones or whatever.
Avatar 12:15pm Mary Wing:

Hi Ken!
Thanks for the link, Carm, but as everything else about this show is digital, I want to keep the dings real, heh. Everyone else can ding at home with these, though!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm WR:

Hi all, ready for whatever, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Stanley:

It's Mary. Joy rises in the beleaguered heart.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Stanley:

Hey Carmichael - I love the 'Single ring on broken reception desk bell'!
Avatar 12:18pm Mary Wing:

Hiya WR and Stanley!
It is indeed a good day to be joyful for the things we still have: virtual friends, interesting sounds, and, for me anyway, LUNCH.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Handy Haversack:

"Ding Along at Home -- with Carmtones!"

Hiya, Stanley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm chresti:

We have a reception desk bell on the front porch, I ding it whenever the dog across the street is making a racket.
Avatar 12:21pm Mary Wing:

Heh heh, wouldn't that incite the dog to keep barking, if Pavlov is correct?
Swag For Life Member 12:21pm spodiodi:

chresti! that is brilliant! i must use that!
Swag For Life Member 12:21pm spodiodi:

oppressive neighbors abound
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Ike:

@KFHP yes I know I need to get the hip new dirt-destroying sonic wave blast app, but my phone is too old for that functionality. Still using water and soap like some kind of creaky old Luddite, pffft. At least we can all agree that the new version of Netflix where somebody climbs out of your TV and scrubs you down is insane and violates all of Mark Hurst's edicts about privacy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm chresti:

This may be my last wingding for awhile, I go back to work next week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Handy Haversack:

Wow, really, chresti? Parks and athletic centers reopening?
Avatar 12:24pm Hubig Pie:

Work or at home, I'm always winging it on Wednesday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm chresti:

Tennis courts, in my case.
Avatar 12:26pm Mary Wing:

chresti, stay safe! There's still time to order a Devo energy dome with face shield:
Avatar 12:27pm Mary Wing:

Oh crud, they are actually pre-orders only at the moment. Here's the direct link: www.impactmerch.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm chresti:

Trails in Griffith Park are open, beaches..
Avatar 12:29pm Mary Wing:

Hey there Hubig, winging and dinging!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm chresti:

They have masks too, www.impactmerch.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm chresti:

OOPs, beat me to it, Mary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Handy Haversack:

I never got to tell scary disembodied voice that I loved her, too, and now it's too late ...

Do you think people will come and play, chresti? Are they using the trails and beaches?
  12:33pm JakeGould:

The thing with people coming out now to do things like sports… They are going to be the more unreasonable people who might even lecture workers on what rules to follow; not the reasonable people who understand things.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm chresti:

I think so, it's hard to keep people AWAY from the trails and beaches @Handy
  12:35pm JakeGould:

Like in NYC the second they all restaurants to open at 50% capacity, the brunch crowd a-holes will make up their own B.S. “rules” and do things like order “to go” but then sit on stoops nearby.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Listener Bob in PGH:

Funny, I just recently read about the Polish Radio Experimental Studio. I was not aware of its existence previously.
Avatar 12:35pm Mary Wing:

Sadly, there will always be a large segment of the population who will do whatever the fuck they want, regardless of the impact it has on anyone else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Handy Haversack:

Yeah, that's what I was figuring.

Jake and Mary have the right of it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm chresti:

The difference is that tennis players have to reserve and pay online, we won't be taking any walk-ons. No doubles, one hour of play, and they have to wear masks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Phillippe Bastille:

Good day, head Wing and wingdings
Avatar 12:38pm Mary Wing:

Handy, maybe we can make the scary disembodied female voice a ringtone, so we can hear her say I love you when anyone calls.
  12:40pm JakeGould:

I posted elsewhere but I have already seen a glimpse of that in Brownstone Brooklyn (aka: Park Slope). Bars that are serving “to go” drinks consistently have at least a dozen people hanging out in front of their entrances all the time. No social distancing. No masks. And they are day drunk. And you can’t even easily walk by; no regard for even the elderly with walkers… And that is now…

Maybe I should get some fireworks and set off packs near them when I am in that part of Brooklyn.
Avatar 12:40pm Mary Wing:

Hello Phillippe!
Avatar 12:41pm Mary Wing:

I saw that on the Upper West Side on Saturday, too, Jake. Total disregard for everyone; was glad I was on a bicycle but they were even standing in the freaking bike lane!
  12:42pm JakeGould:

@Mary: And cops showed up at the scenes I saw… People walked away and just came back. So who can you complain to? And honestly what can the cops do? Shut down the bars? Not happening in NYC.
Swag For Life Member 12:43pm spodiodi:

sounds reasonable, chresti. be careful, eh?
Avatar 12:43pm Mary Wing:

Aoife is pronounced "eee-fa" by the way; I looked it up since I'll have to say it at the mic break.
  12:44pm JakeGould:

When I was a kid, there was this little old lady who owned a house and if you went near her alley, she would toss buckets of water out the window. Heck in my building nowadays, if kids on the weekend decide to smoke pot on the front steps someone tosses water on them. No a bad idea for bar bird flocks.
Swag For Life Member 12:45pm spodiodi:

there was a party near me that went on until after 1am this weekend *shakes fist*
Swag For Life Member 12:46pm spodiodi:

sounds fun, Jake
Swag For Life Member 12:47pm spodiodi:

drive-by with a supersoaker
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm chresti:

Thanks, spodi.
SF is a party town, always.
  12:48pm JakeGould:

@spodiodi: Gonna sound like Joe Biden right now, but when I was 11 or so and the kids of a drug dealer who lived in a shack behind her house stole my Big Wheel, I had to do a secret kid commando mission to get it back. She screamed and tossed water when I ran in the alley (missed me) and she screamed and tossed water again when I ran out carrying my Big Wheel and missed me again.
Swag For Life Member 12:49pm spodiodi:

and that is why i need to leave B^/ "too old"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Handy Haversack:

Kate just got back from her run (she goes through 4-5 masks) SUPER frustrated -- most people unmasked. Picnickers in the parks sitting unmasked RIGHT by the paths. No one being courteous and moving out of the way -- and also unmasked. Two FDNY ambulance drivers, unmasked, hanging out out of the truck. So ... yeah. It's not cool out there. And only going to get worse as some things reopen and the weather warms.

Like Jake said.

And now Kate's going to take out her frustration by making me exercise! Send the scary disembodied female voice to save me!

Swag For Life Member 12:49pm spodiodi:

lol, Jake. to your big wheel
  12:50pm JakeGould:

I miss being outside doing things — and doing nothing — without a subtext or an undercurrent of anxiety.‬
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm chresti:

Our friends that live near Venice beach, have a similar problem with party people @spodi
Swag For Life Member 12:50pm spodiodi:

i miss sitting at the park in front of Grace Cathedral in the sun
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm doctorjazz:

I had the blues so bad one time, it put my face in a permanent frown
But I'm feeling so much better, now that Mary's back in town!
  12:51pm JakeGould:

@spodiodi: Being 11 and still riding a big wheel is kinda pathetic though. I mean I had a Ross Apollo bike I rode too; why I still rode that thing then is beyond me.
Avatar 12:53pm Mary Wing:

Hi doctorjazz! But... but... I never left town!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm WR:

The Tosh testifying. May his words come to pass.
Swag For Life Member 12:54pm spodiodi:

Jake, no judgements here. i sitll play video games :-B
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Stanley:

Hi Handy and wonderful listeners.
Downpressor Man - yes
Swag For Life Member 12:55pm spodiodi:

and i've often said, throughout my life "where is my bigwheel", longing for a simpler time in my life
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm doctorjazz:

(Lyric I know from an old Taj Mahal album, who had a birthday a grew days ago)
Avatar 12:56pm Mary Wing:

You needed the Big Wheel for all those weekend lowrider events, seriously.
Avatar 12:57pm Franco Twinkie:

Hi Mary! I love Peter Tosh. As a matter of fact, I think I'll change my name to Steppin' Razor. What do you think?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Phillippe Bastille:

I was rather uncoordinated as a lad. Needed training wheels on my Big Wheel, which required a much wider sidewalk
Avatar 12:58pm Mary Wing:

Good morning, Franco! Don't you watch my size, I'm dangerous...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Carmichael:

Restaurants are open also, with modifications.
Swag For Life Member 12:59pm spodiodi:

not to mention Big Wheel races rove.me...
Swag For Life Member 1:00pm spodiodi:

will you keep the "Twinkie", Franco?
Avatar 1:02pm david w:

Mary, Mary! Hello all! (hoarse voice, haven't spoken in days!)
  1:02pm JakeGould:

FWIW, this is a pic of the guy us 11 year olds called the “drug dealer” because that’s what he did when we saw him on the corner. Cool bike and dog though. ibb.co...
Avatar 1:03pm Bas NL:

*Covers ears* The bells... THE BELLS!!!!
Avatar 1:03pm Franco Twinkie:

Spodi, Steppin' Twinkie? Franco Razor?
  1:03pm JakeGould:

@spodiodi: FWIW, I dowloaded an old Atari Computer emulator and attempted to play the games I played as a teen… Honestly, I had no nostalgia and felt dead when attempting to deal with the old school games. Grown past it I guess.
Avatar 1:03pm Bas NL:

Hi Mary and 100% crew! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm chresti:

He looks sharp, @Jake.
Avatar 1:04pm Mary Wing:

Hiya David and Bas! Bells are ringing, it must be Wednesday Whatever!
  1:04pm JakeGould:

@chresti: We all lived near the beach in Brooklyn. So wearing whites always looked bright.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm chresti:

The razor is hidden in the twinkie.
Avatar 1:06pm Mary Wing:

Where did he keep the drugs, though? In his hat?
  1:09pm JakeGould:

@Mary: He had a leather raincoat jacket with pockets he put on when that was happening as I recall. This is the corner of Brighton Beach Avenue and Ocean Parkway. An old bar called “Club 101” was a short walk from where that pic was taken. Completely sketchy old-school NYC bar that was past divey… Red lights on forever… Whenever the mail was late my dad asked me to run outside and see of the mail cart was parked in front of the bar.
  1:10pm JakeGould:

And to be fair, he was probably just poor and getting by. Back in the 1970s you could still rent unheated shacks to hang out near the beach. Saw tons of old guys who were just from another part of NYC come down there and spend the summer at the cheap beach.
Swag For Life Member 1:11pm spodiodi:

Steppin' Razor Twinkie has a nice ring to it, Franco! i suppose that's what jumped in my mind
Swag For Life Member 1:13pm spodiodi:

i hear you, Jake, although i do still play some MAME from time to time
Swag For Life Member 1:13pm spodiodi:

(mostly for old arcade games)
Swag For Life Member 1:14pm spodiodi:

Mary Wing, this is mellowing me right out. i think i'll shut up for a bit :D
  1:14pm JakeGould:

@spodiodi: The only real crazy nostalgia for a game I have had — that came and went from 2015 to 2016 — was Mr. Do. I was volunteering a lot at WFMU back then and a nearby bar (Barcade) had it, and I would blow $2 on it regularly.
Swag For Life Member 1:16pm spodiodi:

i LOVE Mr. Do's castle <3
Swag For Life Member 1:17pm spodiodi:

and it's fun to show old games to nieces and nephews.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Phillippe Bastille:

@handy its hard to find good help, even in times like these
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Handy Haversack:

Thinks *my* form needs work?!

Also, the dog spends the whole time looking at me with a blend of pity and schadenfreude.
  1:21pm JakeGould:

Avatar 1:25pm Mary Wing:

Howdy, Brian! Indeed, it looks nice outside my window as well: 64 degrees and breezy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Handy Haversack:

Defender. Chop Lifter. Gauntlet. DIG-DUG.
  1:28pm spodiodi:

3 out of 4 isn’t bad, Handy!
Jake pfffff
  1:28pm spodiodi:

No chop lifter for me
  1:29pm spodiodi:

I sucked at Defender as a kid and I still do, but not quite as badly

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Phillippe Bastille:

@βrian: I take some sort of inappropriate satisfaction when I see others' schadenfreude become moist
Avatar 1:36pm Bas NL:

Grace Jones... hope she's well and filthy rich now.. what a great song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Phillippe Bastille:

Pull Up to the Bumper sounds like one of Handy's exercises
Avatar 1:37pm Mary Wing:

Mike Sin! Hey pal, how are you and Mrs. Sin doing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Ike:

Gauntlet (the arcade version) was great for a while, but it always seemed like the kind of game that needed to have an endpoint with a final boss. In the arcade it just keeps going and going, and you start to wonder what the point is. Of course, that's almost every arcade game, but with Gauntlet it's just more noticeable somehow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Mike Sin:

@Mary Wing -- we are A-OK so far. We're both working at home in our "loft" office and yelling at each to "shut up" during conference calls. Hope all is well with you.
Avatar 1:47pm Mary Wing:

Glad to hear it, Mike, sending virtual hugs! We were both lurking at the staff meeting on Monday, I saw your name!
Avatar 1:51pm βrian:

Mitten was a more challenging version of Gauntlet. The manual dexterity tasks were murder.

Avatar 2:05pm Mary Wing:

Hi Sem! You are late, but so so welcome to join the whatever!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Carmichael:

I don't know why I glommed onto Defender specifically, but that game consumes me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Carmichael:

Great song for a 3oak!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Handy Haversack:

I think somehow I have never heard this song before? And I was originally released in 1974 also!

Though there's every chance Emma has never heard me.
Avatar 2:09pm Mary Wing:

I only knew it from one of the covers (guess which one!), and I don't think I heard the original until very recently!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Carmichael:

This version was actually recorded last year, wow! With some original Rebels.
Avatar 2:12pm Bas NL:

This one's a nice cover!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm Handy Haversack:

Hey now. Hey now now. THIS is news!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Handy Haversack:

Guess I should pick up the 2006 rerelease of Floodland!
  2:21pm Dean:

I do believe Pat Morrison (aka Patricia Ronaine, married to the Damned's Dave Vanian) is thumping the bass on this one. I knew her when she sold cosmetics at a department store in Southern California.
Avatar 2:22pm Mary Wing:

Hiya Dean! As she is pictured on the cover of the 12", I would think you are correct, heh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Handy Haversack:

Such. Good. Screams.
  2:24pm Dean:

On second thought, this might have been recorded prior to her joining the band.

Yeah, that's what made me think so, but per Discogs there's no credit for bass on the record, and the assumption is that it was the band's first player.

Patricia (aka Pat Bag) was pretty cool.
  2:28pm Dean:

Well, it appears she was involved with *a* if not *the* SoM recording of the tune: https://www.myheartland.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=673665#673665

I think Springbok was more like a K-Tel sort of thing; musicians hired to cover the hits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Handy Haversack:
