  12:40pm
JakeGould:

I posted elsewhere but I have already seen a glimpse of that in Brownstone Brooklyn (aka: Park Slope). Bars that are serving “to go” drinks consistently have at least a dozen people hanging out in front of their entrances all the time. No social distancing. No masks. And they are day drunk. And you can’t even easily walk by; no regard for even the elderly with walkers… And that is now…

Maybe I should get some fireworks and set off packs near them when I am in that part of Brooklyn.

When I was a kid, there was this little old lady who owned a house and if you went near her alley, she would toss buckets of water out the window. @spodiodi: Gonna sound like Joe Biden right now, but when I was 11 or so and the kids of a drug dealer who lived in a shack behind her house stole my Big Wheel, I had to do a secret kid commando mission to get it back. She screamed and tossed water when I ran in the alley (missed me) and she screamed and tossed water again when I ran out carrying my Big Wheel and missed me again.

Kate just got back from her run (she goes through 4-5 masks) SUPER frustrated -- most people unmasked. Picnickers in the parks sitting unmasked RIGHT by the paths. No one being courteous and moving out of the way -- and also unmasked. Two FDNY ambulance drivers, unmasked, hanging out out of the truck. So ... yeah. It's not cool out there. And only going to get worse as some things reopen and the weather warms.

Like Jake said.

Blargh.

And now Kate's going to take out her frustration by making me exercise! Send the scary disembodied female voice to save me!

@Mary: He had a leather raincoat jacket with pockets he put on when that was happening as I recall. This is the corner of Brighton Beach Avenue and Ocean Parkway. An old bar called “Club 101” was a short walk from where that pic was taken. Completely sketchy old-school NYC bar that was past divey… Red lights on forever… Whenever the mail was late my dad asked me to run outside and see of the mail cart was parked in front of the bar.

And to be fair, he was probably just poor and getting by. Back in the 1970s you could still rent unheated shacks to hang out near the beach. Saw tons of old guys who were just from another part of NYC come down there and spend the summer at the cheap beach.

Gauntlet (the arcade version) was great for a while, but it always seemed like the kind of game that needed to have an endpoint with a final boss. Guess I should pick up the 2006 rerelease of Floodland!

Dean:

I do believe Pat Morrison (aka Patricia Ronaine, married to the Damned's Dave Vanian) is thumping the bass on this one. I knew her when she sold cosmetics at a department store in Southern California.

Hiya Dean! As she is pictured on the cover of the 12", I would think you are correct, heh.

Such. Good. Screams.

Dean:

On second thought, this might have been recorded prior to her joining the band.

Yeah, that's what made me think so, but per Discogs there's no credit for bass on the record, and the assumption is that it was the band's first player.

Patricia (aka Pat Bag) was pretty cool.

Dean:

Well, it appears she was involved with *a* if not *the* SoM recording of the tune: https://www.myheartland.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=673665#673665

I think Springbok was more like a K-Tel sort of thing; musicians hired to cover the hits.

One should never be without an outdoor clothesline. Let that be a litmus test.

I saw a couple in Tyler jumpsuit at the grocery today. They were coming out as I was going in. By the time I got my phone out they were crossing the street.
