A two-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm Rich in Washington:

It makes me mad when y'all disfigure me like ya doo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm Rich in Washington:

I did this mix live with fellow DJs Erin Yanke and VJ Beauchamp back in 2012
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm Rich in Washington:

BUMP! smooth!
Avatar 7:13pm ironybread:

I'll start listening after I've finished doing my "aah" and "ooh" exercises
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm Rich in Washington:

What about your nasality? Your TWANG?
Avatar 7:16pm ironybread:

Why must we focus on all my voice faults
Avatar 7:17pm ironybread:

The way I'm pronouncing these words is how they SHOULD be pronounced
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm Yvang:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Yvang!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm Fuzzy:

Hola a todos!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Fuzzy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm Hopey Sockmonkey:

Hi Rich and Cratediggers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm Rich in Washington:

Hopey! hello!
Avatar 7:21pm Hubig Pie:

I auditioned at a school for DJ's back in 1977 and was told I didn't have the proper voice for radio
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm Rich in Washington:

Didn't stop me!
Hi Hubig Pie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Rich in Washington:

I have a face for radio and a voice for community radio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Aitch:

The first CD I ever heard was Computer World, which was digital all the way through I think, had DDD on the label. Via my friend's brand new CD Walkman on headphones. No hiss, extraordinary.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm Rich in Washington:

That would be something, Aitch. I remember first hearing Computer World in a record store and I felt like I stepped into the future.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Aitch:

That friend's day job was trouble-shooting Fairlight CMIs. Apparently no 2 were ever quite the same
  7:28pm ARB:

Lol face for radio, hope i can borrow that one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm Rich in Washington:

I wish someone would've troubleshot the CMIs used in some 80s Residents albums. Or just shot them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm Rich in Washington:

It's an old radio saying. But the voice one is my twist. I sometimes hate how my voice sounds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm Aitch:

Cracking show RiW
Avatar 7:31pm ironybread:

My first all-digital moment wasn't Kraftwerk, but it was a DDD disc, Don Dorsey's "Bachbusters" - the liner notes were specific that all performances were controlled from a keyboard, and "No signal on this recording has ever been sound until you hear it through your system"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm Rich in Washington:

but there's this thing where people say community radio people sound really stoned all the time. That's not true. They're not stoned ALL the time. Just most of the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm Rich in Washington:

I can't think of my first purely DDD moment, honestly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm Rich in Washington:

Thank you, Aitch! I aim to crack!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm Aitch:

We were pretty wacked when we were playing that Kraftwerk I do recall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm ultradamno:

Hi everybody! RIP Florian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm Rich in Washington:

Hi ultradamno!
Avatar 7:39pm Hubig Pie:

If you ride the TEE, I think you have to pay a surcharge when you arrive in Austria
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm Rich in Washington:

Surely I can't be the only WFMU DJ to have played V2 Schneider! I had to look to see if I spelled it wrong or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm Rich in Washington:

Good to know. When I was a teen, I though they were saying 'tee hee hee' like in a Harvey Comics comic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm Aitch:

You are what you play apparently
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm Rich in Washington:

HA!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm Aitch:

A dangerous track for earworms that V2 Schneider
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm Rich in Washington:

Ja, no doubt. It's been in my head since the news of Florian's passing.
Avatar 7:50pm Hubig Pie:

I don't see any songwriting credits to Kraftwerk on that label. Were there any legal issues with this ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm Rich in Washington:

I believe so. I don't know if that deterred too many other Hip Hop creators out there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm Rich in Washington:

I think Hip Hop was a bit under copyright police's radar at that point. I don't honesty know much about that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm ultradamno:

It did not. Kraftwerk were a very popular sample source, for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Aitch:

Must obtain a copy of this Trans-Slovenia Express 2, marvellous.
Avatar 7:54pm Hubig Pie:

I think Sugarhill records declared bankruptcy rather than pay up for ripping off Liquid Liquid
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm Rich in Washington:

yeah, while I have an abiding interest in sampling history, I must confess that I know very little about the legal angles of early Hip Hop in total.
Avatar 8:01pm Martinibomb:

Hola Rich! Thanks for the nifty kraftwerk tribute show been digging it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm ultradamno:

Snakey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm Aitch:

Thought this Snakefinger might appear, that signature sound he had.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Martinibomb! Good to see you!
  8:05pm ARB:

Going to play Big Black?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm Rich in Washington:

I actually don't have it! How do you like that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm Rich in Washington:

I could try n' yootoob it, like the youngster DJs doo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm ultradamno:

Messer Chups and Das Moon covered it too.
  8:07pm ARB:

Yeah the Messer Chups one is nice also!

Avatar 8:37pm Hubig Pie:

When Señor C. tries to start his shitbox car at the beginning of Autobahn is real hoot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm Rich in Washington:
