A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am Trouble:

good morning thursday's child!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am Crudbringer:

Whatever she's doing to that giant zither is pretty ok with me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01am David (in London):

Greetings to the Troublesome. And a big hello to Trouble incarnate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am Handy Haversack:

Good Thursday, Trouble and all the Troubled. Is this the first Thursday without rain in NYC/NJ in weeks and weeks? Feels that way.

David, Crudbringer, greetings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am Webhamster Henry:

Nice and microtonally this morning, Trouble!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:02am David (in London):

Yo, Crudbringer, Handy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03am Deborah:

Good Morning WFMU World!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03am Deborah:

Yes, no one seems to be going anywhere. Miss freedom and museums right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:03am Peter from Dover NJ:

Good morning Trouble, liking this intro piece.
Avatar 9:04am Mike & Dusty:

Good morning all
@Handerton well-spotted this is the first rainless day in 36 years in the metroe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am melinda:

hello everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am David (in London):

Hi Melinda.
Avatar 9:06am Snoochienucci:

morning Trouble and all!

Hey DIL nice to see ya!
  9:06am Mark R:

LOVE this Liz Durette track! (Never heard of her, but then, that's what FMU is all about, playing amazing music by people I've never heard of).
Avatar 9:06am Dances with Moomins:

Good Morning Trouble and the Moderns
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am Handy Haversack:

Nothing gets past me, @Mike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am David (in London):

Hey Snoochie. Right back at you. What does today find you at?
Avatar 9:08am TDK60:

Greetings from north Manhattan.
  9:09am Mark R:

Love this Michele Mercure track, also! (Also never heard of her). You're off to such a beautiful start to match this beautiful morning, Trouble.
Avatar 9:09am Snoochienucci:

was saying to Sir Handy earlier, got my last work day of the week today. Hoping that everything goes smoothly and im off to the weekend. But you never know.... How are things over on that side of the pond?
Avatar 9:10am Snoochienucci:

Avatar 9:10am ottovonbqe:

Oh, the time we'll squander while you cower in your domicile - by the US govt.
Avatar 9:10am TDK60:

A "weekend." I remember that.
Avatar 9:10am Jeezuseffinchrist:

love this movement
Avatar 9:11am Snoochienucci:

@TDK well gotta latch onto something, even if it is just a differently named day hahaha
  9:12am Mark R:

And did Satie compose anything that wasn't absolutely gorgeous?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am David (in London):

Snoochie. Yeah, cool here. Weather is fine, VE Day celebration is coming, and I have emerged victorious from a necessary (but destructive) IT upgrade. I spent literally all day yestersday pouring over an infographic I made for Mark Hurst, and I'm now trying to get back to the job I half finished beforehand and finding it rather difficult to focus.

Hey TDK, hello to you!
Avatar 9:14am Roberto:

My daughter, who is a music minor in college, didn't know who Satie was when I brought him up a few days ago. Kids, amirite?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am Ken From Hyde Park:

Good morning, Trouble. More book covers from Stefanie's library: www.local10.com...
  9:15am Mark R:

You're KILLING me this morning, Trouble. I mean, really, I'll just be lying dead by noon. (with a smile on my face, though!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am steveo:

good morning Trouble and modernistas! hi again to (un)usual suspects! Amazing sounds coming from that phone of mine.
Avatar 9:18am Snoochienucci:

@DIL ohh cool news about the info graphic, I assume well be hearing more about that on an upcoming show? IT upgrades can always go either way haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am Trouble:

wow@roberto, that is not kids that is professors: what's happening in the world?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am testingwithfire:

@Trouble agreed, that's the professor. Used to be that breadth of knowledge was an asset in academia... now I swear it's a liability.
Avatar 9:20am meredith:

Good morning all from Carrboro, NC. Might I recommend the WFMU Revolution Radio WBCN documentary? It was a treat.
  9:21am Milan:

I work in book publishing and we book publishers are getting a real kick out of Stefanie's book cover parodies! Thanks, Trubs!
Avatar 9:21am Snoochienucci:

i feel like my brain is so used to hearing Matty W DJ every day that everyime there is a break in the music im waiting for something similar to "doo doo doo daba daba da!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am David (in London):

Snoochie, I find myself humming the Toejam & Earl music quite often these days.
Avatar 9:25am Snoochienucci:

David that's exactly what im talking about! hahaha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Deborah:

@meredith: Thanks. Plan to listen to the conversation tonight and watch over the weekend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am testingwithfire:

I love the cone o' corona in that image
Avatar 9:26am Roberto:

Trouble, whatever is happening in the world, it can't possibly be worse than not knowing who Satie was!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am David (in London):

Snooch, it's a killer earworm that one.

Mmm, good vibraciones here.

Off to the shops soo, any orders?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am Deborah:

Can I share the image?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am Trouble:

exactly@roberto. but there is no accounting for taste...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am testingwithfire:

@David a nice looseleaf first flush Darjeeling would be a delight. I could probably get some shipped here tbh, but it feels somehow Wrong
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am Trouble:

sure@deborah, i just grabbed it off the interwebz. she's starting to get attention online
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am David (in London):

Roberto, I'll bet Satie played around with his tape speed to make silly noises!
Avatar 9:29am waters7:

Good morning!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am Handy Haversack:

@David: HP sauce, please! And some pickle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30am testingwithfire:

hi @waters7!
Avatar 9:30am waters7:

Avatar 9:30am TDK60:

US youth in the '60s might have learned about Satie from Blood, Sweat & Tears' 2nd album where they did a Satie piece.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am Deborah:

Thanks. My Environmental Studies research class will probably like it. They are so frazzled and so am I. I know that you teach also. It is tough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am Itzall Tumánnio:

Hello Trouble, good morning all. Love the Dr. Seuss parody image. I went to the grocery store yesterday AND put gas in my car for the first time in nearly 2 months! I did not, however, take a shower. Today I did, all is well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am melinda:

vibes are good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am Trouble:

goggle her @deborah: she has a slew of children's covers she has reworked for this moment, very enjoyable!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am ParUbi:

Hey Trouble, hi everyone up the scroll. Nicely chill set this morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:33am testingwithfire:

Satie for oldtime banjo/guitar duet can be Swell ... just throwing the idea out there. Any tonal/percussive instrument, really.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am ParUbi:

Haha, for the first time I can't "like" this week's image.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am testingwithfire:

hi @ParUbi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am Passaic River Blues:

That set was wonderful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35am Peter from Dover NJ:

Not sure about this singer, but the opening saxophone had the Johnny Hodges sound down pat.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Stanley:

I just heard that that Black Betty cover, again. Is it stuck in my head or did Trouble actually play it?

Avatar 11:02am Roberto:

I missed the WF parking lot song, but if you all aren't familiar with the Sherman Oaks, CA WF parking lot -- it's the stuff of legends.
Avatar 11:02am βrian:

If only the stay-at-home order could require that TJ's install checkout counters.
Avatar 11:04am Dances with Moomins:

I've been away for 24 years.....what is a TJ ?
Avatar 11:04am βrian:

Why, Trailer Joes.

Trouble, i have to say, every week I love your show more and more. Its just so soothing, but yet fun and upbeat. Everything just seems to always hit me in some sort of sweet spot

I think I have been in Trader Joe's and Whole Foods once each in my life. No intention of repeating either experience.

Exercise time is upon me. Wish me luck!

It more sort of leaks out and then I have to call for a clean-up on aisle exhaustion, Snooch -- but thanks!

Rita Wright is a good prelude!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am Lewis:

that was weird - I have a hawk flying around outside my window and thought perhaps it was complaining about the little birds who are hassling it...
Avatar 11:13am βrian:

TJs is the *only* place in town to get reasonably priced frozen fish, for us. Typically, when we shop there, we're in an out in under 10 minutes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am DJ Guin:

@Laurie...if you have patience and a good Internet connection...buy a FireStick..jailbreak
it and you can watch tv and films for free.
  11:14am JakeGould:

@Trouble: Late comment on the art, but I think someone should do a Richard Scarry book, “What Do People Do All Day During a Pandemic?” Lowly worm drives around in his little apple car with a face mask on.
Avatar 11:15am TDK60:

Hats off to supermarket workers in this current situation.
  11:16am Laurie:

Trader Joe's is very reasonable price. I fill up a basket and it costs $40 max each time I shop -- and I get a lot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am DJ Guin:

@TDK60 -- I am sure to thank the people at the grocery store the limited number of times I have to go there. They had a dead look in their eyes that sad. 2 more dollars USD an hour to risk your life?
  11:17am JakeGould:

@TDK60: True. But also am concerned because in a few places I have been in while in Brooklyn the workers are genuinely either high functioning adults or people who 100% don’t speak any English. Not every place, but a few of them.
  11:17am Laurie:

That's why it's so packed. Plus their generic/store brand snacks, refrigerated dinners, and frozen entrees are incredible
  11:18am JakeGould:

And to clarify, the people I saw like this had masks but on around their neck. Or unloading trucks with no PPE on at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am Priscilla:

Lowly worm! Mr. Frumble would mess things up somehow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am DJ Guin:

Hats Off to the WFMU (Red) Skeleton Crew and DJ Trouble for helping us all cope with this sh*tshow of a world.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am Trouble:

People need help right now, indeed. I've been making a conscious effort to tip every time I go to the grocery store (which ain't that often but still) as well as pre-paying or buying gift certificates for restaurants, my barber, etc., which I will use at a later date. They need the cash flow NOW and I know I will take advantage of their goods and services anyway, just not right now.
Avatar 11:20am Dances with Moomins:

When I came to Finland in 1997 there was a band here named Lowly Worm .

@JakeGould -- how soon until the COVID World Of Richard Scarry devolves into 'Lord of the Flies' due to the meat shortage?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am It Third Planenzall Tumánnio:

And, as you say, Trouble, those of us who still get paid are SO very fortunate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Ken From Hyde Park:

@Jake - My link at 9:15 has a Richard Scarry impression.
  11:21am JakeGould:

@DJGuin: Maybe less than a week because Richard Scarry’s worlds are on the constant edge of collapse anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Itzall Tumánnio:

AND- wth happened with my "handle"?!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Ike:

There's a meat shortage? Is that why there was very little wet cat food on the shelves yesterday?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Priscilla:

  11:31am JakeGould:

Good thing I am eating lots of spinach, kale and chard…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:31am Handy Haversack:

I have survived another exercise time ... barely!

Hey, Greg!

Next step: transfer laptop and all outside. Fill the bird feeders. Work another four hours with birdsong and sunlight!
  11:31am Laurie:

I've been eating a lot of arugula and spinach

I hope there isn't a cheese shortage
Avatar 11:32am northguineahills:

well, meat packers live in states w/o social distancing or lockdowns in place, and they work cheek by jowl, and many are undocumented, therefore they're lucky to make minimum wage and can't afford to miss work....(or get fired).

Are you guys eating baby bok choi, or grown up bok choy? I fry the babies up with garlic. The adults... are bitter like me. Maybe brothsoup is the best approach there.

@Woods...better cook it up lest it become all sinewy with attitude.
  11:45am Trevor:

Thanks for the music! Wondering if you could take a minute to explain the basic technical side of dj-from home. Haven't heard anyone talk about that yet. What formats, what equipment, how do get it to the station? Cheers
  11:47am Clematis in the courtyard:

Meat shortage, toilet paper shortage, and murder hornets on the way! You can't make this sh-t up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Handy Haversack:

Thanks to you, Fancy Bad Matty Boy!

My plans are coming together -- the birds are resupplied, and the dog and I are outside.
  11:47am JakeGould:

@Trevor: Everyone is using different stuff. No one DJ is doing it the same way. It boils down to a real microphone and a real mixing board and multiple input devices like turntables, CDs or laptops.

It would be better suited for a blog post or something; not a DJ break.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am WoodsOfNH:

I think they use one of those pneumatic tube things...push the music into the cylinder and then stuff it in the tube. Just like at banks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am testingwithfire:

@Handy I read that as "Fancy Mad Batty Boy"

I think they both fit
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am DJ Guin:

@Woods -- Exactly. Couldn't have said it better.
Avatar 11:49am Snoochienucci:

Enjoy it Handyman, its a beautful day. About to head out for a bike ride/lunch breakmyself .

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49am WoodsOfNH:

@MrPumpy No doubt. It already thinks it knows everything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am steveo:

@Trevor -- Station Manager Ken talks about some of the technical aspects in this podcast from April www.radiosurvivor.com...
  11:50am SeanG:

great set Trouble!! tudo bem
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am Trouble:

@trevor, i use a dj program called MIXXX and an avid box with a old school mic, and then the music makes to the station on the wings of little wood thrushes
  11:51am JakeGould:

I lied… Each DJ is assigned a passenger pigeon with a USB flash drive. The pigeon heads back to WMFU HQ and the job of the skeleton crew is to grab the USB flash drive and insert that into the “on air” computer and plays it.

For DJs who mainly play 45s there are 4-5 pigeons assigned.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Handy Haversack:

@Testing: I think there are many mansions in that Fancy Bad house!

Have fun, Snoochie!

Wood thrushes are a good call, Trouble. Dependable bird. Unlike SOME towhees I could name!
  11:55am Trevor:

@JakeGould I thought I saw pigeons with USB drives flying by! @Trouble @steveo Thanks for the info!! Maybe I'll be able to sleep tonight.
