Hi Kris & everyone
Avatar 10:01pm Matt from New Orleans:

Have you taken advantage of the album fresco dining opportunities?
Avatar 10:02pm Matt from New Orleans:

Al fresco

hi guys
Avatar 10:09pm Matt from New Orleans:

I’m more a small paul fan myself

Avatar 10:12pm Matt from New Orleans:

If only the Carolyn was on Soft and accidentally in the cheapies
Avatar 10:14pm Matt from New Orleans:

There’s are all still from the pre-Corona digging sessions
Avatar 10:19pm northguineahills:

Hello Kristafarians!
Avatar 10:19pm Matt from New Orleans:

Avatar 10:22pm Matt from New Orleans:

I have mostly avoided Joss Stone and I’m not sure I could recognize her voice.
Avatar 10:22pm Kris Holmes:

These all from Sunday, replenished a little
Avatar 10:24pm Kris Holmes:

i made the mistake of going to see her live
Avatar 10:24pm northguineahills:

Was listening in my car while I explored the 'slow' opening of FL (outside Jacksonville). One bar looked packed, there's no way they were practicing social distancing. Then again, a tattoo parlour in the same shopping center got shut down as the owner made terroistic threats, was found to a member of the Aryan nation, and had many illegal weapons (which is hard to do in FL). Did I tell you I hate the town I grew up in (w/ notable exceptions)

Going back to Orlando (bars are still closed there) this weekend, the job might start sometime next week.
Avatar 10:24pm Matt from New Orleans:

I hope the store was quiet while you were there. Were the employees wearing masks?
Avatar 10:25pm Matt from New Orleans:

Good luck with your new job
Avatar 10:27pm northguineahills:

@Matt: I didn't go in. As much as I wanted to go, I don't trust most strangers in Jacksonville, I can't afford to drink out right now anyways. I believe the bartenders are required to wear masks, just like in the gas stations and grocery stores.

Thanks, Matt.
Avatar 10:27pm Kris Holmes:

yes, there was maximum one other customer the whole time (4 hours) I was there. Everyone had masks, hand sanitizer on the counter. I washed my hands.
Avatar 10:28pm Matt from New Orleans:

I respect Betty Wright and she mentored her so I can’t imagine it’s all bad but I couldn’t deal with UK labels trying to find the next Amy
Avatar 10:28pm Kris Holmes:

there was just insane footage of a bar in Austin, first night open, packed, zero masks!!!!
Avatar 10:29pm Kris Holmes:

I thought Joss was pre-Amy?
Avatar 10:32pm Matt from New Orleans:

Same time. Both were up for Mercury award in same year for their debuts. It took me a while to warm up to Amy and I didn’t like Joss’ White Stripes cover so never went further.
Avatar 10:32pm Kris Holmes:

Avatar 10:33pm Kris Holmes:

never got into Amy's debut album
Avatar 10:35pm Matt from New Orleans:

This one seems out of your comfort zone Kris
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm doctorjazz:

Hi all!
Avatar 10:38pm Matt from New Orleans:

Hi Doc
Avatar 10:39pm Matt from New Orleans:

This is Electro
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm doctorjazz:

Hey Matt!
Avatar 10:43pm Matt from New Orleans:

I forgot how much vocal there was so more boogie than electro. I just remembered Kurtis Blow’s part.
Avatar 10:44pm Matt from New Orleans:

It seems to clean up after the initial distortion
Avatar 10:45pm Kris Holmes:

yeah, it's recorded super hot onto styrene, a bad combo for longevity
Avatar 10:45pm Kris Holmes:

i hadn't heard this Willie Hightower before so I was curious
Avatar 10:46pm Kris Holmes:

that was either a weird edit or a perfect derby in the groove that sorted itself out hahaha
Avatar 10:47pm Matt from New Orleans:

I’m assuming you won’t be keeping that but how much can you even get for it?
Avatar 10:50pm Kris Holmes:

with that distortion i'll probably just put it in the trash, it's funny to hear Willie doing this stuff, his voice is so great whatever setting it's framed in. 2 good sides if it was clean & you liked disco!!
Avatar 10:52pm Matt from New Orleans:

There’s still a studio where Osiris used to be in Memphis. It’s across the street from this convenience store that serves fantastic food. Awesome sandwiches bibimbap and other Korean dishes.
Avatar 10:53pm Matt from New Orleans:

I forgot really good middle eastern food too
Avatar 10:53pm Kris Holmes:

Avatar 10:54pm Matt from New Orleans:

It’s called Kwik Chek. Well worth a visit if you find yourself in Memphis.
Avatar 10:56pm Matt from New Orleans:

I liked both sides
Avatar 10:58pm Matt from New Orleans:

I’m an idiot. The studio I remember being there is Ardent.
Avatar 10:59pm Kris Holmes:

Avatar 11:00pm Matt from New Orleans:

So Osiris was based out of Ardent
Avatar 11:02pm Matt from New Orleans:

I just remembered Kwik Chek’s address when I saw Osiris’ on discogs
Avatar 11:03pm northguineahills:

I thought I had this Deodato!

I haven't had decent Eastern Mediterrean food since I left NYC, well, I had a decent Lebanese place once...
Avatar 11:03pm northguineahills:

(although my version is on LP).
Avatar 11:05pm Matt from New Orleans:

Are you in Gainesville NGH? I went to a large market(starts with a Z) there and had solid food.
  11:06pm norman douglas:

when a friend and i arrived in beaumont the week before katrina hit, petrochemical workers at a local bar advised us to stay out of the water if we went to the beach. the three of them - one black. one white. one latino - then proceeded to list numerous relatives who developed cancer due to the pollutants their petrochem plants put out. not to put a hurt on your partner's plan. covid is hardly our first challenge, just one of the many we've chosen to acknowledge. just sayin.
Avatar 11:08pm Kris Holmes:

Yeah, I just don't think going away for a night to a beach in the middle of a pandemic is a totally awesome idea.
Avatar 11:10pm Matt from New Orleans:

There’s plenty of fools from LA who drove out to MS & AL over the last week to go to the beach. Both those states have significantly higher new virus cases than we do. They’ll probably bring back the virus and start new clusters.
  11:10pm norman douglas:

don't go in the water! panic or no panic.
Avatar 11:13pm Kris Holmes:

coming from a pacific island it's really tough to get enthused about going into gulf waters
Avatar 11:15pm Matt from New Orleans:

Coming from Long Island which is far less nice than New Zealand I feel the same
  11:16pm norman douglas:

best thing about the gulf is will oldham's song "gulf shores"
  11:17pm norman douglas:

i regularly enjoy your shows from upstate ny btw. thanks
Avatar 11:20pm Matt from New Orleans:

Avatar 11:21pm Matt from New Orleans:

10/19 I checked yesterday as Larry said his third anniversary Testify is coming up this month.
Avatar 11:21pm Kris Holmes:

thanks for joining in on the comments tonight Norman
Avatar 11:21pm Matt from New Orleans:

10/16 I don’t get how I flipped the 9 there.
Avatar 11:22pm Kris Holmes:

Dang, time flies
Avatar 11:22pm Matt from New Orleans:

I’m definitely getting tired
  11:23pm norman douglas:

thank you. great music and well-balanced commentary imho.
Avatar 11:24pm Matt from New Orleans:

Stupid name but nice groove
Avatar 11:24pm northguineahills:

@Matt: I prefer to be in Gainesville, and the job I want is there, but I won't hear back from then until late June, so working for the Census will have to do in the mean time.
Avatar 11:26pm northguineahills:

@Matt: Zeezenia? That's in the south part of town andI used to live and work in the NE part of town, so, I sadly never ventured there.
Avatar 11:26pm Matt from New Orleans:

Fair enough. I hope the census job is fine and you get the job you want.
Avatar 11:27pm Matt from New Orleans:

That’s it NGH
  11:29pm norman douglas:

kris, dumb american question, but are you familiar with NZ rock/fashion photographer gerald jenkins? he's london-based, but island born and bred.
Avatar 11:31pm Kris Holmes:

I have never heard of him! Gonna have to google.
Avatar 11:37pm Matt from New Orleans:

New birth
Avatar 11:42pm Matt from New Orleans:

That’s like me remembering the block number of Kwik Chek. What use is that? I never would have been able to tell it to you without that prompt from Discogs.
Avatar 11:42pm Kris Holmes:

hahahaha, exactly
Avatar 11:45pm Matt from New Orleans:

Kris I do have to say that I’ve opened my mind Kris to all sorts of music I never would have listened to in the past over the last year. This does not include exotica yet I get my dose every week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm chresti:

Give me just a little more time.
Avatar 11:47pm Matt from New Orleans:

hi chresti
Avatar 11:48pm northguineahills:

Thanks Kris et al. Gonna put something one to hopefully lull me to sleep. Ciaosers!
Avatar 11:48pm Kris Holmes:

Matt, well that's cool. I've gone through phases of pretty much everything. You gotta be familiar with things first to know they're not for you.
Avatar 11:49pm Matt from New Orleans:

Avatar 11:50pm Kris Holmes:

Hi Chresti, indeed, Give Me Just A Little More Time.

Goodnight NGH
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50pm chresti:

Hi Matt and Kris.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm chresti:

Night ngh.
Avatar 11:52pm Matt from New Orleans:

This is one loud record
Avatar 11:52pm Kris Holmes:

weird it's not metering any higher than the others, maybe more compressed
Avatar 11:56pm Matt from New Orleans:

Does your copy have the picture sleeve with the groovy lettering?
Avatar 11:57pm Kris Holmes:

Chairmen of the Board?
Avatar 11:59pm Kris Holmes:

oh the Madeline Bell, it does not, it's a US press & there wasn't a pic sleeve here that i'm aware of
Avatar 12:01am Matt from New Orleans:

Thanks Kris. Have a great night.
