Hi Everyone. Welcome to plague show re-Run #2! this show is from August 9, 2018, but I am here live to chat and do a live playlist. hopefully, this will be the last re-run -- if all goes well, I hope to be on live from my bunker in Queens NY next week!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm Mick:

Hope you're bearing up well in the bunker, Fabio. That Wakhevitch was a fab start

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm common:

Fabio, all yep.
  3:08pm Toothgrinder Tom:

My favorite King Crimson album; I listened to it incessantly while driving a rental car long distances on an Iceland vacation with my son because it was one of only a few things downloaded to my phone,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm Handy Haversack:

Hey, David. Please enquire as to whether Quease can add Skeleton Eggs as an opening act for the upcoming world tour. I told Ken FHP I'd check.
  3:09pm Brendan:

Hello people of the world (and beyond)
  3:09pm Nick volunteer chef:

Working from home and tuning in live for a change! Fabio - glad to hear you’re rockin’

..a relentless album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Fabio:

thanks Mick! well, like everyone else, it's been some weird and trying times, but I have to thank the the gods or universe or satan or whatever forces have kept me from catching this evil plague!
Avatar 3:10pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Until just now, never really connected how the bass in this Crimson piece puts it in Magma territory.

3:12pm listener phillip in the bronx:

I so miss Fabio's soothing voice telling us what's going on at the landmark sunshine cinema. what movie are playing
Avatar 3:12pm TDK60:

Hats off and fake elbow bumps to all. These are tryin' times. I've been trying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Dave in Vermont:

we'll get to hear what was playing in August '18
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

That trashy crash was literally a garbage cymbal dug out of a bin by Bruford
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm TIMPANDA:

Good Afternoon Fabio, hope you're doing well today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm fred:

Has Rex started sending out decoration tips? Bunkers are not fallout shelters, but maybe close enough
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Handy Haversack:

Past Fabio was really cooking! This set is not letting up!
  3:14pm Brendan:

I like that the show is live and yet it’s not. It gives me a chance to chat with my past self and vice versa.I hope that I didn’t say anything stupid back then and I also hope that I don’t say anything stupid on April 2. It’s all about personal growth
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm brainiac:

$10 says we're going to hear something from Igor Wakhevitch next.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm fred:

@Brendan: you should check out Kenzo's show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Kat in Chicago:

When Daniel Blumin played a rerun, I made the same comment on it that I made the first time and hearing Daniel respond to it on-air was kind of freaky.
  3:16pm David in London:

Handy, Hell yeah, Skeleton Eggs are awesome live so I hear. It’s going to be like a The Pistols’ classic Anarchy tour.
Avatar 3:16pm βrian:

Will there be an archive of this show for future pandemics?
  3:16pm Toothgrinder Tom:

@fred if he did I imagine it would involve those bubbling machines ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Rory:

Soooo good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Handy Haversack:

@brainiac: You really *are* smart!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Dave in Vermont:

yes, an archive of an archive, like Sitting in a Room
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm common:

@Kat: history does repeat itself that's fucking great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm brainiac:

I am shitting in a room
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Handy Haversack:

Breaking news from our bunker! The dog has stood up! No -- wait -- no, he's lying back down!

Will keep you posted!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Handy Haversack:

@Woods, I hear you. I am still reeling from witnessing it in real time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Marcel M:

Hey Fabio, hey all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm fred:

@Brendan: when he replays a show, he leaves the previous comments in place. He also sometimes has interleaved them with current ones, re-posting them at the same time they were originally made (though he hasn't done that recently)
  3:24pm Brendan:

Live greetings from the woods of Rockville Maryland https://pasteboard.co/J1Zd6WG.jpg
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Fabio:

Hi Marcel
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Stanley:

@fred: it's like meeting yourself in the past.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Marcel M:

These guy sound like they were on some good drugs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm mariano:

OMG, Rockville's gone sideways! ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Handy Haversack:

I dig the sounds but cannot endorse their anti-egg stance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Handy Haversack:

That tears it, @mariano. I'm not going back there.
Avatar 3:28pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@fred, you undersell me. I also talk to my past self on mic. wfmu.org...
  3:29pm Brendan:

@fred he sounds like a chronological anarchist. I’ll definitely check it out
Avatar 3:29pm βrian:

Remember it's impolite for past selves to interrupt their elders.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Handy Haversack:

@Kenzo, you might enjoy _The Psychology of Time Travel_. Book out last year.
Avatar 3:31pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@Brendan: That's the most appropriate label I've ever received.
  3:32pm choggie:

Just realised why one could find themselves attraccted to females they wouldn't as a model, find attractive otherwise.
It a combination of the voice, and them titties. Just discovered why Kim Novak makes me mad....with
lust
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Peter from Dover NJ:

Fabio and everyone, hoping you're safe and not going stir crazy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Rory:

Prog rock good!!!
Avatar 3:33pm Woo:

Did somebody say keep on prog rockin?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Rory:

Well, some of it is not so good, but you know what I mean...
  3:33pm Brendan:

@kenzo I like the jib of your cut already
  3:33pm choggie:

Titties have to say something, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Peter from Dover NJ:

PS. Fabio: King Crimson: "prog rock pond scum intent on bumming you out." A quote from a review that Fripp delights in.
  3:35pm kevin richards:

was golem the gen p orridge produced album?....
Avatar 3:35pm TDK60:

that prog rock is swell.
  3:37pm Toothgrinder Tom:

I’m feeling proggy, emmer effers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm mrdonutsu:

I'm deja-vu-ing all over again!
  3:39pm David in London:

I saw the Crims last summer at the Albert Hall and they were almost overwhelming. And for all his awesome technique, Fripp has never forgotten how to play a filthy three chord trick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm mariano:

Sounds incredible, David.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm mrdonutsu:

I'm guessing a few folks here might be fans of Robert Hampson's work - with Loop or Main (or neither).

He just dropped this new release today:
soundheads.org...

Check it out (after Fabio has had his full say here, of course).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Dave in Vermont:

"But the endlessness of all that is, and the limitations of the mortal bodily life, are the same, and their sameness is the key to the door."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm listener 126464:

vaguely remember loop
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm mrdonutsu:

As far as I've gotten with it, the two-part piece is very much within the Failure canon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm listener 126464:

yes after Fabio thanks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Mick:

Thanks for the share mrdonutsu! David in London - that must have been mind-blowing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm mariano:

03:34 - Peter from Dover NJ: That bad review of King Crimson reminded me of a review I only discovered recently, Robert Christgau's famous diss of Sabbath's first album: "I've been worried something like this was going to happen since the first time I saw a numerology column in an underground newspaper." Love me some Sabbath, but that there's a zinger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm listener james from westwood:

Holy crow, that Inside Story theme knocked loose some nostalgia dust. So I ~have~ heard Ciani well before FMU entered my life!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Carmichael:

Better than the 2 word review of Spinal Tap's Shark Sandwich LP.
  3:58pm P-90:

Classic show, most rerun-worthy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Peter from Dover NJ:

David in London: I saw Crimson in Red Bank NJ in July 2017. I was so blown away, I didn't listen to them for a year. And they're my favorite band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm mariano:

Haha, Carmichael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I'll bet that reviewer likes Joe Belock a lot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Peter from Dover NJ:

Mariano, cool! On Trouble's program, she started soliciting book recommendations... may be can start compiling bad / snarky reviews.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm mariano:

That sounds like a fun project, Peter. I've seen some more general books on famous put-downs, so fun to read. KenFHP: I see that skeleton and I feel I should be hearing xylophone music ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Threemoons:

Hey Fabio, fellow Failures! Got off yet another conference call so the music's back on...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm mariano:

Threemoons: you should play Fabio's show in the background on your calls, then act stumped and say everything sounds fine on your end.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm brainiac:

Hmm, I notice there's a track on this great Loren Chasse & Michael Northam album called "Eggeater's Retreat"... another anti-egg sentiment?
  4:07pm David in London:

Peter, yeah, that’s pretty much how I felt too. They opened with Larks Tongues in Aspic and I felt my heart speeding up as the intro was winding down and it got towards that point where the guitar comes in. When it did, it nearly took the top of my head off!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Handy Haversack:

Forgot I had to get on a call with my boss at 3:30! Back now. @Woods: Dog still lying down.

@Kenzo, if you are still here, you might enjoy the book _The Psychology of Time Travel_: came out last year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Peter from Dover NJ:

God rest Bill Rieflin, David in London. King Crimson are supposed to tour the US this summer, but I wouldn't be surprised if they cancel.
  4:11pm David in London:

Peter, what do you think of Jako on vocals? Seems to be some division of opinion amongst the fan base.
Avatar 4:15pm TDK60:

I like vocalist Jakko, good guitarist too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Peter from Dover NJ:

Hello David, I quite liked Jakko on vocals. No one can replace / replicate John Wetton or Greg Lake ... one has to allow this version of King Crimson to be itself. TDK60, agreed, when they played Easy Money, Jakko absolutely ripped on the solo.
  4:20pm David in London:

Yeah, I’m with you both Peter and TDK. I have a story about him, but it’s way too long to relate here. I’ll have to DM you at some point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Crudbringer:

okay I'm back did I miss anything? Is everything failing successfully like it's asposed tah?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Handy Haversack:

Pretty much, @Crudbringer!

I am declaring the work day done. Let's see what this "fruited sour" has to say for itself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Peter from Dover NJ:

David, I look forward to it.....
  4:23pm Miss G:

I now live in a complete fantasy world! Maybe I'll watch "The Girl Can't Help It" tonight, and pretend I am in NYC at the Film Forum in 2018!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Crudbringer:

is that like a national anthem beer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm WoodsOfNH:

I saw The Atomic Cafe at the Railroad Square Cinema in Waterville, Maine. The cafe inside the cinema had dummies dressed in radiation suits. Creeeeepy. Also, kinda funny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Handy Haversack:

Kings County Brewing Collective, Crud, if that answers what you're asking?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm spodiodi:

coffee looks good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Crudbringer:

sorry I was just thinking of "fruited plain" because we've been reading _The Westing Game_

"Collective"?!?! That's _socialist_ beer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Rich in Bay Ridge:

There is an official King Crimson documentary in the works. Was planned for release this year, I think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Peter from Dover NJ:

Fabio, awesome image! I'm just finishing a 3-cup mocha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Handy Haversack:

Heh. The whole name is implicated Collective! Fruited?! Sour?!! COLLECTIVE??!!

That's _socialist_ beer!

Must be why it works so well!
  4:31pm Wendy:

really the movie theaters are open in NYC?? it's essential?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Crudbringer:

I hope it is delicious. I'm using tequila to render some truly terrible ginger beer drinkable. Tropical drinx since tonight is fish night.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Fabio:

@ Peter from Dover NJ: that is a freshly brewed cup of espresso. I have been reconnecting with this type of coffee after not drinking much for years -- too many boring reasons! but man that was good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm mariano:

Wendy: this is a repeat show, but I still find myself jumping a bit when I hear FMU DJs announcing upcoming shows, movies, etc - I did a couple of times, especially when Fabio said Film Forum is open again -- what timing!
  4:45pm Miss G:

Yeah, this is really good for my head. Went to grocery store after a month, came home, sign on apt. door bldg for sale. "The current rents are also slightly below market rate for the area and allows room for increasing revenue." Hurrah!
Avatar 4:45pm Bas NL:

He, he.. second time i went for my mobile.. My ringtone is very similar!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Chop Scott:

Fabio! Coffee was a very good idea, thanks pal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Handy Haversack:

@Dave in VT: Thanks for sharing the URL of the "making of"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm brainiac:

I'm going to cop to the fact that I'm playing a drone from "The Otolith" on top of Nic Collins and Filty Grin. It's glorious cacophony.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Dave in Vermont:

Miss G, fuck that noise "..increasing revenue."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm mariano:

Good to know about numbers stations, Rev Turnip - been too long since I've delved into Conet and that whole world.
  4:51pm Miss G:

@Dave in Vermont: little do they know that I lived on 1st and 1st in 1978, and have been thru more than one rent strike. . .(although, this can be a very red state, so, we'll see. . .)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm mariano:

I forget which one of you AccuNuts shared this link with me, but it's so much fun! Love shortwave radio, ever since my grandfather and I would listen to his, trying to guess what language we were hearing: websdr.ewi.utwente.nl
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Handy Haversack:

I use a marine radio frequently, and you get to hear some pretty nutty things on it since it can pick up the whole harbor, if the broadcasting transmitter is strong enough -- and ocean-going ships have *powerful* transmitters. And, you know, tend to come from all sorts of places.

Well, all sorts of coastal places.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Fabio:

@ Scott: Yeah man! hope you're good! glad to stoke the salivary impulse toward the dark fruit. talk soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm mariano:

I'll have to look into that, Handy - radio noise and maritime? Two of my favorite themes.
Avatar 4:54pm TDK60:

Handy, is there a marine channel on shortwave radios?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Dave in Vermont:

at my coop, where i work, our union (UE 203) got us hazard pay, but that doesn't help pay rent for those not deemed "essential" or able to work from home
  4:55pm P-90:

The cat is fascinated by this.
  4:56pm P-90:

Same cat that’s a big Bryce fan.
Avatar 4:56pm TDK60:

..used to listen to shortwave some in the '80s/'90s, but my radio is lost. I know of a podcast, a weekly roundup of shortwave broadcasts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Dave in Vermont:

i am the cat; this guy is always leaving the computer on
Avatar 4:58pm βrian:

I used to shop at ORC back when it was on Archibald Street, and later on N. Winooski ave.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Dave in Vermont:

now, it's on So Winooski, the old cop-shop
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Handy Haversack:

Wow, mariano, bookmarked that site for later messing about!

@TDK60: you know, I don't know! The marine radio uses a bunch of dedicated channels. There are three regions: US/Canada/ROW. And in each region certain channels have specific designations and restrictions (e.g., channel 16 in the U.S. is the Coast Guard's; in NY Harbor, channel 13 is used for bridge-to-bridge communication; in most other places, channel 9).

I would think on shortwave you'd be more likely to get the NWS marine weather broadcasts, which is a whole separate band on the receiver.

I don't know enough about shortwave to answer any better than that, I think, but I will look through my radio's instructions to see if that can shed any light!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Dave in Vermont:

TDK60, you have a title?

Handy - that shortwave site is crazy, especially once you start messing with the controls. You're liable to get Col. Kurtz narrating his latest nightmare, lol! Plus you can record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Crudbringer:

OMG so glad I happened to glance over here when you mentioned that shortwave site @TDK60! That is the weird shit I need!
Avatar 5:11pm TDK60:

Crud. I haven't listened in a long while. I think it's just one person's digest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Handy Haversack:

@mariano I had it playing on top of this track for several minutes before I realized that *two* tabs were making sounds!

Uh, apparently I really enjoy static.

Talk about muddy speaking ghosts through my machine!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm chresti:

It's from the Santa Cruz area, the shortwave radio site.
Avatar 5:17pm TDK60:

..just listened a bit and forgot that it's the fellow who runs it who reads the news in his own voice. He must write it down then recite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Crudbringer:

(nah, I ffwded a bit on the latest one and there is a lady speaking with a Commonwealth accent...)
Avatar 5:20pm TDK60:

oh, he may read a digest first then plays them....?
Avatar 5:22pm TDK60:

I've forgotten...yes, Crudbringer, right.
Avatar 5:26pm TDK60:

..shoulda done my homework before mentioning, but I was busy stirring the crazies around the apt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm mariano:

Crudbringer: in case you missed it, here's a link to a SW app (was it you who first gave me the link, TDK60?): websdr.ewi.utwente.nl
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm dale:

evening fabs. bring on the bagpipe and violin armageddon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Fabio:

Hi Dale!
Avatar 5:29pm TDK60:

mariano: I recall seeing that via an earlier discussion but don't think it was me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm ultradamno:

Sounds like something has gone horribly wrong with the dishwasher...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Handy Haversack:

Poor Pythagoras.
Avatar 5:30pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Pythagoras did have a thing against beans, it's true.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Crudbringer:

actually my dryer is sounded like this right now. needs a belt (I hope).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Crudbringer:

omg @mariano what is this wonderful toy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Carmichael:

Heya Fabs and people of the drone. Being an essential worker is not worth it. At any price.
Avatar 5:33pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Working from home for 3 weeks (so far), & having no more free or creative time than before. Funny.
Avatar 5:34pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Realizing of course it's a bit privilege to be employed at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Handy Haversack:

I hear you, Rev.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Mick:

Rev Turnip Druid - feeling you on both counts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Crudbringer:

Yeah, too easy to sit at the desk and just keep going, esp. when IM is enabled. I'm shutting down in another hour. Handy is like at least two beers ahead of me by now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm Mick:

Now off to start dinner prep - have a good evening everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm mariano:

You're probably tired of hearing this Carmichael, but you're doing really important work and we all owe you our gratitude. Take care Mick, have a good dinner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Crudbringer:

Eat well, Mick. I have been working the polenta pretty hard. Finally got it stiff enough to make oven fries with it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Carmichael:

Thanks Mariano, this is the only venue where I get any thanks. Otherwise, it's "work faster".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Handy Haversack:

It's a slow burn, this fruited sour, Crud!

@Carm: What mariano said!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Crudbringer:

What is your bag @Carmichael, I only know you are a boarder of long standing. Are you stocking groceries or fixing plumbing or pushing gurneys around or
Avatar 5:40pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

On the plus side, this means working from home office which is the studio space, which means FMU on the monitors as loud as I damn-well-please...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Carmichael:

@crudbringer, I'm a government Purchasing agent. Scratching around for protective gear, hospital beds and testing facilities.
Avatar 5:41pm Bas NL:

I've seen Tony Conrad on stage once.. what a presents. Still have fond memories of that concert.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Andrew_in_WI:

I really enjoyed that Tony Conrad documentary
  5:44pm h_wells:

Nice set Fabio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Fabio:

@ h_wells: Thanks! glad you're enjoying it.
Avatar 5:45pm TDK60:

Likely challenging right now Carmichael.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Andrew_in_WI:

Is the Fonal record label still around?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm ultradamno:

Mysterious and irritating in equal measure, I like it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Crudbringer:

Thank you for scratching & scrounging @Carmichael. I have been tapped to print some prototype stuff for a local hospital - did that. a buddy of mine signed up with an org that coordinating that kind of stuff. I'm happy to do it... but god it would be so much more efficient & effective to just, y'know, spend some fuckin tax money on the factories that build this shit for real.
Avatar 5:48pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Looking forward to new-remote Failure next week, but this was a choice show, sir.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Fabio:
