In the Great Sterilzation of last night, evidently they removed all the cables for a scrubbing, so I have been scrambling for wires, oy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Doug Schulkind:

The Great Sterilization sounds like an Upton Sinclair novel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Doug Schulkind:

Or, gulp, Margaret Atwood.

Colette Magny is the best! Hi Mary and all!
  12:24pm JakeGould:

I found a 2 ounce bottle of hand sanitizer in a fairly desolate Brooklyn playground last night. No kids or anything nearby.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Rich in Washington:

Magny is totally new to me, but absolutely gorgeous! Will have to check her stuff out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Yvang!

Makes me want to relearn French
Avatar 12:26pm βrian:

My French tutor (very worldly, went to the best schools) somehow had never heard of Colette Magny.

I got to introduce her.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Webhamster Henry:

A little bumpy - it happened yesterday too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Rich in Washington:

Oh poo!
I was just telling chums to tune into this show. Hopefully sorts itself out.

Wow, Jane really knows how to cover Tom Waits!
Avatar 12:28pm Mary Wing:

What the fucking fuck is going on here? Excuse me while I scream.

Ah, it *is* Tom Waits.
  12:29pm John from Florham park:

@Mary wing we all want to scream right now

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm Rich in Washington:

Sounds good now. Hi Mary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Handy Haversack:

Dang it, I ducked out for a sec and missed "A Little Rain"? Even my luck is clumsy.

If anyone cares, there is apparently a cluster of 100+ cases discovered in the Orthodox Jewish communities in Borough Park and Williamsburg. Who knew that the sam e loony fringe groups that caused a measles outbreaks would behave like this? Loons.
Avatar 12:38pm βrian:

Why weren't they vaccin ... Oh yeah.
  12:38pm John from Florham park:

@Jakegould Rachel bae users to live in that area
  12:41pm JakeGould:

The thing is these new cases came not from people being ill but more testing. Meaning there are tons of people out there that are carrying the virus but not getting ill. National testing should have happened a month ago… But I guess we need a Space Force, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Phillippe Bastille:

Just got a text that my 62 year-old surgeon cousin's June wedding to his 27 year-old nurse is cancelled. {clenches teeth and mutters} damn you, virus, you win again today...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Yvang:

@JakeGould : Well said! I am fed up with those billionaires dreaming of Mars with their stupid rockets and satellites!
  12:46pm John from Florham park:

@jakegould your right we really don’t need a space force
  12:47pm JakeGould:

We don’t need a Space Force… If aliens invade we can just lower interest rates and that will show them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hey Mary, 3OAK suggestion. I heard VU's New Age on Ken's show, lotsa sweet covers out there! Well, only one by Rachel Sweet, but there are lots of others too.
Avatar 12:51pm Mary Wing:

Ah, I know why spotify was messing up--Ira is using our WFMU account in studio A! Normally, Duane doesn't use it, so I never have problems. So I guess I'm second tier here; hope I wasn't messing up his songs like he messed up mine, heh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Handy Haversack:

@Phillippe (12:42), the struggle is real!
Avatar 12:52pm Mary Wing:

Not sure I can do 3oak today, since I use the station computer's Spotify...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Handy Haversack:

This is lovely. I'd dream of goats, given my druthers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Phillippe Bastille:

I shoulda said "Future 3OAK suggestion". You really have to prepare for that
  12:54pm Listener Robert:

Ms. Wing, I'm sure you're not "second tier here" in any overall sense. Things are being put together nearly on the fly in what are hoped to be very temporary circumstances.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Yvang:

That's why some bit's of Ella Fitzgerald from Ira's show were shuting down Jane B.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Michael 98145:

It will be good to get normal life back. Whatever that means.
  1:00pm Listener Robert:

Wow, extra dingers! Maybe you can also dig up Ms. Boule's honky.
  1:00pm JakeGould:

Bernie Sanders might drop out of the nomination race today. Just vote for Biden to get this utter idiot out of office. I think Biden would have handled this whole Coronavirus mess better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Michael 98145:

He might not have flushed the govt down the drain
  1:03pm JakeGould:

I’m deeply concerned about people who say “I’m going to write in Warren as a protest vote!” in the middle of this. Denser than a brick they are.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Michael 98145:

Stay healthy!!
Where's Nader?
  1:08pm Listener Robert:

JG, what makes you think any such votes in the primaries at this point would have any effect on the general election? Are you afraid some dark horse will get the nomination?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm doctorjazz:

@jakegould, write ins (and stay at homes) are much of the reason we got The Orange One in 2016...you'd think the past 3+ years taught folks something, but...
  1:11pm JakeGould:

@ListenerRobert: I am talking about the general election. I hear more and more people saying that is what they will do in the general election.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Michael 98145:

That would not be good.
Avatar 1:12pm Mary Wing:

I'm periodically looking at Ira's playlist--love all these folks who straddle both playlists, heh! Which show are you actually listening to, though??
  1:13pm JakeGould:

@MaryWing: I am listening to you, Mary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Doug Schulkind:

I'm flying on a Wing and a prayer.
  1:14pm JakeGould:

@ListenerRobert: And the rationale I have heard is many consider Drumpf and Biden to be two sides of the same corporate coin. But at this point if you can’t see how Biden is better than Drumpf, no hope for you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Phillippe Bastille:

I'm here with you Mary. You're my favorite (but don't tell the other DJs, okay?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Phillippe Bastille:

(but now I want to go look at Ira's playlist)
Avatar 1:21pm Mary Wing:

I pinky swear, Phillippe!
  1:21pm JakeGould:

@Mary: Pinky knuckle swear!!!
Avatar 1:24pm βrian:

Straddling playlists is a breach of social distancing, I'd think. Damn close to scissoring.
Avatar 1:24pm Mary Wing:

And a thumb stamp on top!
Avatar 1:25pm david w:

Hello, Mary and all... with you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm maestroso:

I have your show on, Mary, but I do have Iraès playlist up as well. Hmm, this keyboard canèt seem to produce an apostrophe.
  1:28pm Mark R:

This Horse Lords track is bitcoin'--is this from their new album?
Avatar 1:28pm Mary Wing:

Hiya David, have you wiped down the entire Outpost?
Avatar 1:28pm Mary Wing:

Yes, Mark, it is!
Avatar 1:29pm βrian:

When I try to fathom wiping down all the surfaces we touch daily, I despair. Seems like we'd need gallons of alchohol.

(To disinfect, I mean.)
Avatar 1:30pm david w:

Wiped, sprayed, dipped, steamed, and then repeat!

Avatar 1:34pm Mary Wing:

Oh for fucking fuck's sake. I thought I had solved the Spotify problem by using the other WFMU account, but SOMEBODY ELSE is using that as well right now.
Avatar 1:35pm βrian:

Why is *anybody* in or around WFMU using spotify??
  1:36pm John from Florham park:

@Mary wing can you send an email to that person and tell them you have to use it
Avatar 1:36pm Mary Wing:

We use it to preview music and to create playlists.
Avatar 1:37pm Mary Wing:

I don't know who is using it though!

This Pearl Charles makes me happy
Avatar 1:52pm Mary Wing:

hiya Kevin!
  1:52pm Mark R:

Really loving your selections today, Mary. As usual, I've never heard of most of them--just the Raincoats and Horse Lords.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Phillippe Bastille:

Mary, did you change your background? I have a Petty blue background and white text
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Webhamster Henry:

I hope that Horse Lords record gets a lot of air and stream time. #microtonalist
  1:54pm Mark R:

Actually I think I played Purple Pilgriims one one of my fill-ins. I'm seeing Mary's usual curtains background, Phillippe.
Avatar 1:55pm Mary Wing:

I see the curtains here, Phillippe, but Ira has a blue playlist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Handy Haversack:

I have the blue glare, @Philippe, not the curtains. On Firefox.
Avatar 1:56pm Sem:

Always liked Gordon's version, dug the Purple Pilgrims go at it.
Avatar 1:57pm Sem:

Normal curtains on ungoogled chromium.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Phillippe Bastille:

Dang. I'd even take Venetian blinds over this. Very hard to read
Avatar 1:57pm Mary Wing:

THE MAN IS TRYING TO KEEP ME DOWN, sheeesh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Phillippe Bastille:

Ira has a different blue. And black text. And a few defectors...
  1:58pm Mark R:

In spite of the silly name, this Double Naught Spy Car track is quite beautiful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Phillippe Bastille:

oooh! and now the curtains are back (though they kinda look like drapes to me)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Phillippe Bastille:

I shouldn't be looking at this screen anyway. Work to do...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Webhamster Henry:

Wikipedia says the song was actually inspired by that TV movie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Handy Haversack:

And ... back to shocking teal!
Avatar 2:15pm Roberto:

I've always liked this song, but the concept of a "distant constellation dying in the corner of the sky" doesn't really hold water. Constellations are random visual arrangements of stars from Earth's perspective that are otherwise unrelated. One possible exception is the Pleiades, which is in fact an open star cluster.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm fred:

Hello Mary and all. My commute is much faster now that it's less than a yard
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Handy Haversack:

@Roberto, another possibility: acid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Webhamster Henry:

@fred I tell people I cut my commute in half by moving the laptop into the bedroom.
Avatar 2:16pm Mary Wing:

Salut Fred!
Avatar 2:22pm Mary Wing:

Thanks for that link, Phillippe! I will be comparing many things from now on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm Doug Schulkind:

Don Ho has to have covered this, don't you think?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm Phillippe Bastille:

Let's just call them "window treatments" for now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Phillippe Bastille:

Yeah, I'm afraid if I heard this cover in a piano bar, I'd be taking money out of the tip jar
Avatar 2:28pm Mary Wing:

Heh heh. If it were Bill Murray singing, though, you would eat it up.
Avatar 2:29pm Mary Wing:

The best cover is next, sit tight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Handy Haversack:

I keep flipping between the *drapery* and the electric blues with little control at my end. I think my constellations might be melting!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Phillippe Bastille:

I'm pretty stable with the window treatments -- on Firefox as well
  2:31pm Aaron in Minneapolis:

I loved her pronunciation of lasers
  2:32pm JosephB:

Hello Mary and everyone! Sorry to catch only the tail end of your show -- will listen back later on the archives. From one bubble to another, thanks for all the crazy tunes in these crazy times.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Phillippe Bastille:

Sounds a little like T-Bone Burnette
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Handy Haversack:

See, more cymbal was the answer, *Patty*!
Avatar 2:32pm Roberto:

If I recall correctly, at the end of the movie, John Travolta basically said, screw this bubble, I'm out!
Avatar 2:32pm Mary Wing:

Hiya Aaron and Joseph! Better late than never!
  2:33pm Aaron in Minneapolis:

Are you at the studio Mary?
Avatar 2:35pm Mary Wing:

Yes, I am! All the doors are open (except for the front door of course) so nobody has to touch the doorknobs!
  2:36pm Aaron in Minneapolis:

Are the boards cleaned after every shift?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:36pm Handy Haversack:

You're special, too, "Up the Wolves"! (And quite enjoyable, too.)
