Avatar 10:08am Joe McG:

@Brendan: It wouldn't be too hard to do. I think my grandmother recorded one. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am Brian in New Orleans:

I will ALWAYS need your 3rd hour Joe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am Handy Haversack:

@Brendan, you could suggest to Mary Wing for 3OAK.

@Joe - I meant your grandmother's version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15am steveo:

this song makes me think about Laurie Anderson
Avatar 10:16am Joe McG:

@David: Ha! She was hampered by bad distribution and the Frente version that came out at the same time.
  10:17am John in Bklyn:

In 35 years, I think that was first time I ever heard a tune by Dream Academy besides "A hey oh ma ma ma..."
  10:17am Brendan:

Wire still sound so great. Not many bands have kept it up like them in their later years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am David (in London):

@Hughie - I still miss Bruce Gilbert a bit, but Wire continue to amaze me with how good they can be decades into their career.

  10:32am John from Florham park:

@david it was about carols show yesterday and use whatever carpet you want
Avatar 10:33am zivilars:

Girl Talk – such a great song!
  10:33am emily:

Thanks for this Dave Edmunds song!
Avatar 10:33am zivilars:

Girls, sorry
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am Hughie Considine:

@David, it's true -- Bruce Gilbert added a crucial dimension to the band and there is a certain homogeneity to the sound now, but all things being equal, they are still making wonderful, otherworldly music.
  10:34am steveL:

Nearly perfect song/performance/recording.
  10:34am John from Florham park:

I was going into 9th grade when this song came out,joe you have any of Dave doing rockpile?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35am pantz:

Dave Edmunds was in Porky's Revenge! Talk about a multi-talent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am David (in London):

@John, ah yes, I did. Sigh. It was an emotional rollercoaster yesterday, wasn't it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36am Irene Trudel:

"Girls" Talk" is a number one hit in my heart always! I still remembered all the words to sing along. Love Dave Edmunds' voice!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am David (in London):

It's raining and there's a leak in my medieval music room. I've got the Harpsichord Blues.
  10:44am melinda:

Sunday is Lou’s birthday, same as my sister!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Krys O.:

@?: So many artists like Lonnie Mack and Alex Chilton loved that Bell Notes that they covered it.

Avatar 10:44am βrian:

This player really has pluck.
Avatar 10:46am Joe McG:

@Krys: I like Chilton's shambolic version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Handy Haversack:

Strange that harpsichord blues never caught on more!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47am Krys O.:

@Joe: I hadn't thought about it years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49am David (in London):

@Joe - Has anyone ever used the phrase "I like Chilton's polished and professional version"?
  10:49am John from Florham park:

I am clicky starring all these singles
Avatar 10:49am Joe McG:

I should've played the Uniques after the Angelettes for thematic cohesion. Do the segueway at home. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am Handy Haversack:

@David, unsurprisingly, those people who did slipped through the fingers of history.
  10:52am tom:

I liked the segue from the angelettes to the bell notes, like they were both singing in a minor key or something
  10:52am Brendan:

Any chance the B side is Losers Weepers
  10:52am djsheilab:

That Angelettes record was top-notch. Always love those “better watch out, girl!” warning songs. Morning Joe!

@Handy-- let's be the fingernails of history and pick them back up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Handy Haversack:

@John, you are preaching to the choir, my friend! Mondays sure go down a lot easier with this lineup of DJs!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am David (in London):

@Handy - Yes, they never made the roll of honour. (I saw the Big Star reunion here in about 1992 or thereabouts, and Chilton was gloriously shambolic).

Joe McG, I endorse this event or product!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am pantz:

That trip will be Fulphilling
  10:59am Brendan:

@pantz. Same atmosphere in my friend’s basement . We wore that one out, along with Jailbreak on the flip side. We had no guitars so tennis rackets had to do.
  10:59am P-90:

“overblown,over-rocked”, exactly. But fun.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am listener Rey:

In my old nabe, those cars would get a warning letter on their windshield and if nothing happens, the next message is a brick or cinder block.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Webhamster Henry:

I used to live in the Car Alarm Center of Brooklyn. Also "Godfather Theme" and "La Cucaracha" horns.

  11:07am Clambake:

This is making me quite anxious.
Avatar 11:07am zivilars:

This is a crazy song for sure, but after having listened to a duck and pig sung version of "Wipe Out" by Duck Dale and His Pig Tones yesterday on Sheena's Jungle room, I am now prepared for everything ...

Car alarms: if you can’t beat ‘em, turn ‘em into irritainment
  11:09am Bill W:

It could be worse, Joe... One of the residents in my building screams on the sidewalk under my window before 8 many mornings. There's no taking her to the shop.
Avatar 11:09am Jeff Moore:

That car alarm song is actually a pretty good jam!
Avatar 11:10am jt:

Are you aware that audible car alarms are now thankfully illegal in NYC? Worse sound ever my wife is mad now and i have to change the radio station.. sorry! Cinder block thru the windshield was always a fantasy of mine but I have left some angry notes /threats and that neighbor has since fixed /deleted the alarm.
Notes to the effect of ; "The police will notified & they will write a ticket ." usually works.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am Krys O.:

I seem to recall a song where the instruments are all car horns perhaps from the 80s or early 90s....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10am Mister Dobalina:

Avatar 11:12am PKNY:

Loving this BÖC cover...I was just about to complain about the lack of cowbell, but it came in during the chorus!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am mariano:

Hey Joe McG, good to hear you in the Carnival spirit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am David (in London):

Ah, mariano. Greetings to you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Handy Haversack:

@mariano! Hope you're having a ball!
Avatar 11:14am PKNY:

just did a lookup of the 9th Ward record, they do a cover of "Boys are Back in Town" on that! Joe, can I call for an A/B to compare w/ the Thin Lizzy original?
Avatar 11:14am Snoochienucci:

you guys ever see this tribute they did for Dr John in the streets after he died? Awesome! www.youtube.com...
(hope its okay to share the link)

I should visit the fridge for my leftover etouffe! (that stuff is a pain in the ass to make, btw)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am pantz:

Now I'm craving chicory coffee and etouffee
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am mariano:

Hi David and Handy - having a ball indeed, in that last 24-hour crescendo! Saving my energy for Orpheus later tonight, then it's up bright and early to catch Zulu and Rex.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Krys O.:

That is it! Thank you, Henry!
  11:16am Eric from Lake Hiawatha:

Thank you
  11:16am yippie:

reminds me of walking around new orleans and seeing all these awesome bands march by me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am Handy Haversack:

@mariano: fantastic. Consider me jealous!

THE Mardi Gras song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am Greg from ZONE 5:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am tim from champaign (now washington):

Joe - I approve of sonic warfare as revenge. There was one town I lived in that was full of subliterate hippie stoner college bozos. These jabronis who lived across the street from me would blast Bob Marley or Dr Dre out of nowhere on a Tuesday morning at 1 am. I had a fantasy of rigging up speakers outside of their bedroom windows and at 7 am blasting Throbbing Gristle or Wold Eyes at top volume.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am pantz:

I highly recommend going to New Orleans during or slightly before Mardi Gras. New Orleans might not be around much longer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:17am David (in London):

@mariano - Me too. Stuck in the grey north European gloom that sounds utterly awesome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am Carmichael:

Heya Joe and second liners. Diggin' the Mardi Gras tunes. I also see you played Stomach Worm, my favorite Stereolab tune EVAH!
  11:18am JakeGould:

Dang! I missed the car alarm song. I miss those things. I feel nowadays people playing all kinds of sounds/music on their smartphones and Bluetooth speakers is a worse noise problem in NYC.

Very grateful I have also been able to see a few mocking birds literally tweet in the same exact pattern as car alarms.
  11:18am yippie:

is voodoo prayer language a real language?
Avatar 11:18am Hubig Pie:

Written by Earl King. Earl King- he's an earl, he's a king , why is this man not president ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am David (in London):

@tim - When my neighbour was playing some terrible music, loudly, for a protracted period some years ago, I angled my speakers to their window, put on The Stooges' 'Search and Destroy' and cranked it up. It did the trick...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am Carmichael:

We already have a king as president, and his name ain't Earl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am Handy Haversack:

@JakeGould: I have heard that too! It's completely gob-smackingly wild.

I worked in cafe in Providence and would clear out the after-bard crowd when it was time to mop by blasting _Confusion Is Sex_. Always worked.

The Erlking rules in the land of faerie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am mariano:

Don't be jealous Handy and David, come on down sometime! Believe me, I'm jealous of UK weather during our miserable swampy summers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am Ken From Hyde Park:

I'm afraid to tell Mark Hurst of the idea I'm working on. If your car is broken into, it continuously relays messages to the Tweeter account of everyone in a two-block radius until it gets reset.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am Handy Haversack:

Yeah, @mariano, I am contemplating some plans ... furtive and shadowy still, but rising ...
Avatar 11:22am PKNY:

Is that the Meters (or at least Ziggy on drums) on this Earl King track?
  11:23am JakeGould:

I genuinely miss the car horns that played the Godfather theme.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am David (in London):

@mariano - Now that is an idea to which I need to give some serious consideration.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:24am tim from champaign (now washington):

Nice work, David!
Fantastic set, Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am David (in London):

Oh man, when The Zig is behind the kit, all is right with the world.
Avatar 11:25am Joe McG:

Since I was reading the wrong stuff off the clipboard earlier, let me mention that Nate K. and Matt Fiveash will be doing a Mardi Gras special tomorrow night at 9.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am tim from champaign (now washington):

Not necessarily a Mardi Gras tune but I love Stephanie McDee's Call The Police as New Orleans favorite.
Avatar 11:27am Hubig Pie:
