Listener comments!

Avatar 3:54pm edelkakao cha cha:

Hello! Well ahead of schedule here; in fact listening to your 80s show broadcast last monday. As always, there are a couple of ones I had not heard before. Thumbs up especially for The Chauffeur; proves my point Duran Duran were nicking so much stuff from Japan. For me this is their finest hour, in spite or because of the copycat excess, I mean this could easily be a track from Quiet Life or Gentlemen Take Polaroids. Nowhere else does Simon Le Bon sound so much like David Sylvian. OK, apologies for throwing these comments here, how off topic can one get before your show has even started?

Hi Edelkakao, Martinibomb, and our very own Mr Fab! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Today's LHT is super smooooooooooooooth ;-)
Avatar 5:04pm Mr Fab:

That Yma Sumac song just before this show started has always put me in a surfy mood - prominent guitars, rockin beat. Not all beach parties are necessarily of the Frankie and Annette variety.
Avatar 5:04pm Martinibomb:

this stu phillips track is sooooo good. such a great version
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Setting the tone with some mellowness :-)

Anyone wanting to know what pledge prizes you can grab on LoriHajiTura in the next two weeks - get a pen and paper handy! I'll be running down the full list of 12 throughout today's show. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

One the 2nd and the 9th March, I'll be offering three pledge prizes per hour - to nab your choice (or choices!) you just need to be the first one to pledge each time :-)

And I've got books, CDs AND vinyl up for grabs! :-)

I'm looking at the discogs page for the Hollyridge Strings... this is wild

Yep, hi, back home just in time. (I was at my partner's place when listening to your 80s show, and yes it was a good mix, thanks for that.)

  5:17pm melinda:

Hi all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hello melinda! :-)
Avatar 5:19pm Mr Fab:

I have an album of Monkees-for-strings. Not the Hollyridge gang, think its by the Manhattan Strings or somesuch? That’s a good ‘un.
Avatar 5:19pm edelkakao cha cha:

GG 5.16 My partner did also, even if they were tired from work. One must like a song if 99,9% asleep and yet tapping one's foot firmly in time with the music(the song was Video Killed The Radio Star, and that was quite cute to watch)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - I've got an easy Monkees one somewhere too ... off the top of my head I can't remember who by tho. I need to sort my collection very very soon. It's getting a little out of order. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@edelkakao - that song is irresistible ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm notsoKWYET:

always grateful you turned me on to this version of Green Tambourine a while back...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm notsoKWYET:

Who knew Summer In The City would sound so good on a trombone
Avatar 5:25pm Mr Fab:

Buddy Morrow did so much great stuff, he should be far more well known in the retro music world.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I just imagine all the adults in their lounges and reclining chairs tapping their toes to this ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - completely agree!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This cover of Wear Your Love has extra beybeh power ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yes. I am obsessed with that show :-)
Avatar 5:29pm Mr Fab:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@notsoKWYET - yep! :-) I have another REALLY cool ad coming up for them later :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm notsoKWYET:

This is the 2nd best cover I have ever heard of this --- Quebecois goddess Jenny Rock takes the cake though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yes!!! Very much so :-)
Avatar 5:34pm Mr Fab:

Deep Purple goes EZ?! Holy Spicolli, now I’ve heard everything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - my secret stash ;-)
Avatar 5:36pm edelkakao cha cha:

My fave ad was that about flash cubes, I mean I was using them as an 80s kid, goes to show me and my instamatic were brought to the wrong decade. (OK, OK, nowadays I am an 80s freak, but back then...)
Avatar 5:36pm Martinibomb:

a very cool version of dizzy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I have very fond memories of flashcube cameras - I was always fascinated by them as a kid :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

And I *love* Dizzy. Such a great song :-)
Avatar 5:39pm Mr Fab:

Yep, “Dizzy” is such a classic choon. Hugo Montenegro’s Moog-y version is great too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I love all the Montenegro moog records :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Get down and groove, Peggy!
  5:42pm melinda:

I liked flash cubes too.
Avatar 5:43pm edelkakao cha cha:

I had no idea about this combination! Peggy Lee and Everyday People, OK, NOW I have indeed heard everything
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I swear flashcubes were way brighter than any other camera
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@edelkakao - Peggy's getting DOWN! ;-)
  5:44pm melinda:

There’s an unexpected cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Here's that great Canada Dry advert!
Avatar 5:44pm Sem:

Love some post-dinner Peggy Lee.

Hello, djGG, and all along for this whole shebang.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi Sem! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ann-Margret is in my Top Ten girl crushes. :-)
Avatar 5:46pm Sem:

There was a time, she was the bomb, no doubt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I still would ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Rich in Washington:

Swing it, Mel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm notsoKWYET:

I think Elvis would have agreed about Ann-Margret as well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

God they were a gorgeous couple, weren't they?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm notsoKWYET:

Yes... but the couple I want to know most about --- particularly if they were ever together - is Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood
Avatar 5:53pm Mr Fab:

In the climactic talent contest in “Viva Las Vegas,” Elvis won (cuz it’s an Elvis movie), but really, Ann-Margret’s number really did blow even The King himself off the stage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yeah, I've always wondered if it was personal as well as professional.
God - "Some Velvet Morning". There's a song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - in comparison to Ann-Margret, Elvis looks like he has two left feet. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm notsoKWYET:

I dunno --- all those songs were too sexy for it not to have been
Avatar 5:55pm Mr Fab:

If anyone visits me in L.A., I’d be happy to take you on a spin down the actual Blue Jay Way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This cover of Blackbird makes me think of A Mighty Wind :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - I'll bring food for the journey! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Rich in Washington:

oh man. White people, amiright?
Avatar 5:56pm Sem:

Frequently on the Ed Sullivan Show...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - dig it! LOL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Rich in Washington:

I loved the Second City episode where Sandler and Young were in some kind of spy hijinx movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

There's a definitely a whiff of Stay-Prest slacks here :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I've been binge-watching all the Lola Heatherton SCTV skits. :-)
Avatar 5:59pm Sem:

Catherine O'Hara is a genius.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Sem - if I ever met her I would be a fangirling, sobbing wreck :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm notsoKWYET:

A little bit off topic --- but i'm obsessed with Kids in the Hall's special "Chalet 2000"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@notsoKWYET - I mean, you KNOW how I feel about the Godlike genius of KITH :-)
  6:01pm Rob:

Love Love Love Drags Me Down
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm Rich in Washington:

I think that's one of those entire seasons which I have never seen. I need to rectify that ASAP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm Rich in Washington:

I had this wonderful streaming comedy channel which had, in addition to KITH, a ton of britcoms, etc. It was fantastic and then some other streaming entity bought it and killed it off.
Avatar 6:02pm Sem:

See you and all later in the week, GG. Ciao for now,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rob - yes!! And hello :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - ugh. I hate that. You just get into something and they pull the plug on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thank you for listening Sem! See you later on :-)
  6:03pm Rob:

Hi there GG ... and Dan... and all...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm notsoKWYET:

hi!
  6:08pm Rob:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Rich in Washington:

This is how The MAN put down the sixties revolution without firing a shot. It used the relentless, inexorable process of the Culture Industry, Adorno be damned!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ilya was one talented bunny, that's for sure :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I've always said that Easy Listening is the most subversive music on the planet. ;-)
  6:11pm Rob:

Interesting factoid from wiki - David McCallum and Jill Ireland's son Val was in Jackson Browne's band
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rob - I didn't know that! Does he still record?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm ParUbi:

Hi everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:13pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hey there ParUbi! :-)
  6:14pm Rob:

Val McCallum has worked with several artists and has one album of his own.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rob - I shall have to investigate further! Thank you for that :-)
Avatar 6:16pm Mr Fab:

I've always wondered, who was this music for?! You know no hippie would be caught dead listening to it. And can you imagine the older generation wanting their beautiful strings and vocals sullied with those damn commie freak songs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - I think it all fits in with the stereo testing boom. Songs that are contemporary enough but not too out there for Mom and Dad to set up the equipment and entertain their liberal neighbours at dinner parties ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Also artists like Mel Torme, Peggy lee, and Sammy Davis etc who want to stay relevant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm notsoKWYET:

oh my.... I went and picked up a package of 2 45s i bought today --- one was Uptight !!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm notsoKWYET:

but nancy wilsons version
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I think also - using my parents as an example - althoughn they listened to The Beatles and The Stones and so on, they were also young marrieds, so the idea of being too "out there" was frowned upon. This way they could swing a little but not upset anyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

If you think of all the women's and home magazines in the late 60s with paisley and psychedelic prints. Be cool - but not too cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

What's that film with Diane Lane where she's a young housewife on holiday in the Catskills? She ends up having an affair and going to Woodstock to kind of break out and have fun and it's a HUGE scandal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Moon Man? Man on the Moon?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm ParUbi:

A Walk on the Moon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@ParUbi - thank you! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm ParUbi:

I remember that one. It was enjoyable, a nice capture of that period
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Otis Fodder:

Good evening or afternoon all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm ParUbi:

I'm fascinated by how different periods of film represent different periods of history. The 80s version of the 50s is different than today's/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@ParUbi - I liked it too :-) And it showed the internal struggle of being young in the 60s but also bound by social mores and conventions. It was really well done.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm ParUbi:

But we're talking about late 60s for that one lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi Otis! You know that you've timed it really well again, don't you? ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm ParUbi:

It had the "thing and the other thing"-- the personal interwoven with a larger story about culture of the period
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@ParUbi - exactly! I'm gonna have to rewatch that :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Otis Fodd:

Work dictates my time and somehow must cosmically know when I should step in. Thank you galaxies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Otis - gotta love them galaxies ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I do love Helmut Zacharias - one of my musical passions :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:30pm Otis Fo:

I wonder how many cover variations they made of this Zacharias album or how many actually sold at the time. I have 2 cover variations and have seen 3 in bins. Makes me happy to know it was a bit out there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Otis:

My mother had a 7" single of "The Tipsy Piano" by Zacharias. One of the records I grew up. Bend me shape me indeed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - I have yet to find a Zacharias track that I don't like :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

BINGO! ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm Otis:

Thank you cosmic forces.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:32pm Otis:

Reheating pasta for dinner this evening. Will be chowing down just in time for Greg's show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I had a homemade lentil masala earlier but I could go a bowl of pasta right about now :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I've drunk gallons of water today as well and am STILL thirsty. I don't know what the hell is up with that. Maybe I swallowed a salt lick in my sleep?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Otis:

Fresh pasta from a place locally (want to make my own someday, another thing on the never-ending priority list)... and a simple sauce with a baguette. Basic and good, with a whole clove of garlic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Otis - there is really nothing like a simple pasta dish. Warm. Filling. Tasty. Yum :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I have a pasta machine in the back of the cupboard that I bought a million years ago. Every time I look at it I feel guilty because I still haven't used it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Otis:

I do weekly baskets here, local/organic/etc.. and fresh pasta I can order weekly so I get lazy. But it's one of the top things I want to learn, along with baking proper desserts and knitting. They keep moving up the priority list of things to do/learn. As long as I don't lay down on the couch... dangerous to get up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Otis:

On that note, time to start boiling the water... listening in the kitchen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I do knit (and crochet) although I have an enormous project pile that I need to finish :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm notsoKWYET:

HONEY!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:40pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@notsoKWYET - :-)
Avatar 6:40pm Martinibomb:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - good, isn't it? :-)
Avatar 6:57pm edelkakao cha cha:
