Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Michael. When I was a youngster, my friend Robert and I would walk over the train bridge to a truck stop called Haddicks. We would sit at the counter with an order of french fries between us, put nickles into the juke box and play Hang On Sloopy by The McCoys over and over until we we asked to leave. I understand the mystique of the truck stop. Kind of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Pedro in Arlington:

Probably doesn't fit with today's themes but "Hitler Lives" could probably be played weekly into November.

Let me make a wild prediction, are you gonna play Phil Collins' version of "Burn Down The Mission" from "Two Rooms"?
Avatar 1:49pm Franco Twinkie:

Thanks Michael, I didn't mean to drag you into this conversation.
Avatar 1:49pm still b/p:

Have to confess, the scene in Almost Famous where everyone's singing Tiny Dancer on the tour bus shifted my appreciation of the song by a definite degree. Feels like conversion through corniness, but there it is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Fuzzy:

@LOT: yes, it's available for many different devices. More info available at openwrt.org
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Uncle Michael:

Franco, what do you think I'm here for?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Uncle Michael:

I'm running OpenWRT.
Avatar 1:51pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

OpenWRT FTW. Also, note that Tiny Dancer's lyrics weren't written by the famous man, but by Bernie Taupin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Uncle Michael:

Did Elton write *any* lyrics?
  1:53pm John from Florham park:

Does openWRT work on iPhones
@Uncle Michael Elton had Bernie do it
  1:53pm dan:

@UM He "wrote" Cheddar Cheese Girl.
Avatar 1:53pm Franco Twinkie:

Jerry Garcia didn't write the lyrics to Truckin' but ....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Fuzzy:

@John: I doubt it -- an iPhone is not a router.
  1:55pm Wilson in SO:

Whoa pipes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Uncle Michael:

Jerry didn't sing 'em either, Franco.
Avatar 1:56pm still b/p:

Someone I know was griping recently about "hunting the horny back toad"...'c'mon, what the hell is that, what kind of lyric is that?" And I thought..it's never bothered me, and it's a deep grumbly rabbit hole to drop into to grade and unpack lyrics for too many things...unless they are eminently awful.
  1:57pm Dean:

Pretty sure Franz Schubert didn't write the lyrics to his vocal works. I know for certain that Jerry sang none of those, either.
  1:58pm John from Florham park:

Fuzzy thanks anyway
  1:58pm dan:

A cover version that unfortunately never happened was Whitney Houston doing "Border Song". That would have been amazing. At least Aretha did it here.
Avatar 1:59pm LuAnn:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Uncle Michael:

LuAnn! Thanks.

Neat-0. Early "straight" Eddie Harris. No electronics...
  2:01pm Dean:

Tim Rice wrote some of the lyrics Elton set to music, too. Just Lion King or other stuff?
  2:02pm dan:

It was about a boy who was born on Christmas Day, when the New York Times said God was dead.
  2:02pm John from Florham park:
