"Oh cup bearer bring forth the glass and place it to my lips, the path of love, seemed easy at first, [but] what came was many hardships. My vowels may be off, my Persian is terrible,, I prefer ottoman poets.

Though the conclusion of that one is banging he keeps going on about roads and his beloved ending with, "I followed my path of love,, and now I am loathed, how can a secret remain so if from every tongue it drips? If his presence you seek, Hafiz,, then why do you mask yourself (in Persian he is the world eclipsed), stick to what you know,, let go of imaginary fancies (of love)

Comedy is so hit or miss in NYC. There’s two shows in my neighborhood, prospect Lefferts Gardens; one is the dead End comedy show at Erv’s as well as big break comedy show at bluebird, next one is January 11. Every Monday in Gowanus is Butter Boy comedy show which is very good. That used to be hosted by Wyatt Cynac and now it’s hosted by a duo or trio of a very funny ladies.

I think 4 of the singles from When We Fall Asleep have gotten play on the Alternative Station I listen to in the midwest. So naturally the one I liked the least hit #1. It's not an apples to apples comparison, but getting the 5th single to be the first #1 seems kinda impressive, some albums they just stop releasing singles after the 3rd or 4th one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm tneeld:

That album is as close to Nevermind as I think we could get in the current era.
  4:32pm BH:

IIRC, people a few years ago were pretty sure that music was moving away from albums and back towards singles.. not sure if that panned out or not.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Rob Kopp:

There was a beautiful version of Se telefonando by Mina on You Tube with Ennio Morricone's orchestra in the background (Rain Uno), but it's not there anymore
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm fred:

@Sheila: You might like Charlene Darling's video for "La Peau Bleutée": www.youtube.com...
Though it's probably more enjoyable to me because of all the familiar faces (the other members of her other project Rose Mercie make appearances)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Lenny was thee breakthrough Comedian
- busting out from polite format standup to everything we know about it today !
& of course he paid the price for it - ending up saying 'I am not a Comedian - I am Lenny Bruce' - as it became about his legal battle with Authority & Society.
How much Relevance do you want with your Comedy ?
...Also - a lot of it is recorded poorly - like Jazz or Garage / Punk that should be represented better...
  5:03pm Jett:

@RobKopp Do you also like "Chi Mai" by Milva?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Rob Kopp:

@Jett: No. I will look for it
  5:05pm Mister Ease:

2 deeply insightful currently active comedians, very much in the tradition of people like George Carlin, Bill Hicks & Lenny Bruce just came to mind: Jimmy Dore & Lee Camp. One of the fascinating things about both of them is that, in addition to being comedians, they are both investigative journalists who are fiercely critical of the financial and military elites. That's why Google manipulates their algorithms to make it harder to find people like that.
  5:05pm William Main:

Dear Shelia:  You should listen to Lord Buckley, an important precursor in philosophical stand up comedy. Try the Nazz and Jonah and the Whale (both on youtube).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Jonathan Pie does great videos - the conceit he is a Brit Reporter - & when the camera goes off he says what he really thinks...
  5:07pm P-90:

When I tell people Peggy Lipton’s music is underrated, often they laugh, because they’re sure I’m joking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Carmichael:

Never have a Friday afternoon meeting. No good can ever come from it.
  5:08pm Jett:

@Robb That was such a great clip on YouTube taken from Rai of Mina performing Se Telefonando, I wish I would have downloaded it. Supercool. Now it is gone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm Michael 98145:

@carm, good advice. they are usually just a power play.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm mariano:

@ParUbi: Yeah, I just heard about Neil Peart, that sucks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Harry Shearer's 'Le Show' is Commentary with Satire
...he's like Peter Sellars with the voices - Tom Leher with the songs...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm JohnEBGood:

Hi Sheilla B.
Your show is fabulous. Boom Boom!
Avatar 5:11pm djsheilab:

Awwww thanks JohnEBGood!
  5:11pm P-90:

@RRN63 Yes, “Le Show” has been a comedy champ for decades.
  5:11pm Jett:

@djsheilab Do you have the version of Lola Flores doing "La Luna Y El Toro" with the castanets. Can't find that anywhere?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Michael 98145:

So true, @JohnEBG, and great archives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Always thot of Peart as the Opposite of Keith Moon on some kind of spectrum: Technique over Expression.
But what Technique. Many Drummers idolized him.
I don't know but get the impression he was a good fellow...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Rob Kopp:

@Jett: I HAVE downloaded that clip. Only problem (I just found out): It was in iTunes and I updated iTunes to Music and now all my clips are gone! Will have to find out where Apple has put them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Carmichael:

Anything Colin Quinn does is quite entertaining. He knows his world history, and somehow makes them all sound like a couple guys on the corner.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Carmichael:

Oh God, another opportunity for Rush fans to yap about their band ... Sorry though about Peart, RIP.
  5:15pm P-90:

Love Geowulf! Had tickets for their Mercury Lounge show and missed it... still crying...

Happy Friday Everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Michael 98145:

  5:16pm Cooh John:

This Geowulf song is on my jukebox--H 10. I put 10 quarters in it and dance.
Avatar 5:17pm djsheilab:

I really can't get enough of Geowulf. They make my heart soar!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Rob Kopp:

@Jett: I prefer Mina over Milva, but Morricone's orchestra is always great. In Holland we have about the same. Records with Bert Paige Orchestra have something special.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Passaic River Blues:

Well, this is pure sonic joy right here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Carmichael:

Dang, I missed the Peggy Lipton. To the archives this evening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Michael 98145:

All this music we would NEVER hear elsewhere
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Word Michael.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm ParUbi:

@RRabbit-- that's a good way of putting it. Sort of why my fandom didn't last. But what a master of technique!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Rob Kopp:

@Jett: do you know the B&W clip of Lola Flores singing Limosna De Amores? I've never seen a woman sing with so much expression. www.youtube.com...
  5:21pm Jett:

SheilaB never fails to put her heart into giving us an outstanding show! "Foolish Little Girl" by The Shirelles is a big favorite. Thank you!

I’ve been in a car so Babel to write but Sheila this is your greatest set ever. So many singers I didn’t know. It’s perfect.

Dusty - up there with the very best of the soul singers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Handy Haversack:

Back after the commute! Still sounding great.

@mariano, ParUbi, yeah, I'm sad about Neil Peart, definitely. Going to put some Rush on after SBB ... (and Stashu ...) ...
  5:24pm Jett:

@RobKopp, Lola Flores always manages to put her heart into her performances. I will check out that particular clip. She was amazing.
  5:25pm michael z:

And now some familiar ones. This set is a testament to Sophisticated Boom Boom being the greatest radio show since John Peel’s Too Gear (that dates me).
  5:27pm Dave Spice:

Michael Z - dates me too, but they were great days and great shows - and SheilaB is carrying the torch.
Avatar 5:27pm djsheilab:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm northguineahills:

@Rob: Noooooooooooo!!!!!
  5:51pm michael z:

I’m mystified. I looked up Ruby Haunt and t says it’s two guys. But that song had an amazing female French vocal. This set is as good as the last one. You’ve nailed it Sheila.
  5:51pm John from Florham park:

@colleen going to clicky star that Janis Ian song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Rob Kopp:

@Andres. You're welcome. Not that I do it regularly, but this was just an invitation, wasn't't it?
