Charles Mingus said jazz was a word invented to separate musicians from their money. Music for a Free World brings us together, drawing listeners to the healing power of smooth free jazz. Each week, surprise guests bring their own sides to spin and their instruments of choice to spontaneously jam.

@ngh: I once had a weird argument with a coworker about Braxton's music. Turned out he was talking about another (Toni) Braxton, and neither of us had heard of the other one
  2:48pm Doug Schulkind:

Greetings, Freeworlders!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm fred:

Just saying, if Luke tours in Europe, Instants Chavirés in Montreuil (next to Paris) is a great place, and the sound engineer is a bass player, so he can expect a great sound
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm doctorjazz:

Hey Free Worlders!
Avatar 3:07pm northguineahills:

that" hilarious, fred, ! (I know who Toni Braxton is)). I talked shop w/ Tyondai about his father's music once, and Tyondai lraving Battles, etc...

@Dave: maybe not ideal to post an email on the web, with archives to boot. Anyway, I can't help with booking, I'm just a guy going to shows. All I can do is spread the word, and I'll do that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm doctorjazz:

Had the signal, lost it, back again (damned NJ Transit, this is all without moving, sitting in a-shock!- delayed train.
Good to be back!
Avatar 3:31pm Dave Sewelson:

doctor on the move....
Avatar 3:32pm Dave Sewelson:

welcome to texas....
Avatar 3:32pm coelacanth∅:

just hold on doctor; Freedom is just down the road
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm fred:

@doctorjazz: At least you have a train! After more than two weeks of a transit strike, I swear I won't complain about trains ever again. Or (more likely) for a couple of days...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm doctorjazz:

Strike doesn't end, huh Fred? (I admit this is better than no transit, but sometimes NJ Transit goes "on strike" in the middle of your trip..."the connecting train you are waiting for had been cancelled". This is not unusual...)
Avatar 3:42pm coelacanth∅:

damn i remember that from nj transit trains from decades ago. they never got their shit together?
Avatar 3:44pm coelacanth∅:

(and the nj transit cops...probably still representing the scum of the earth, i imagine)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm doctorjazz:

Coel, bad as ever. When my daughter lived home, I often woundup picking her up at some station art midnight because the connecting train home was cancelled WHILE SHE WAS IN TRANSIT!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm doctorjazz:

Great band!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm fred:

The unofficial Paris transit authority motto is "veuillez nous excuser pour la gêne occasionnée". My neighbor once used that phrase when warning people about her kids' birthday party, we had a laugh over it, she hadn't realized where it came from. Also, the Paris transit thing is called RATP, which stands for "Rentre Avec Tes Pieds" (ie: walk back home)
Avatar 3:50pm coelacanth∅:

jeez dr.j that's bad enough for you or i but that's scary shit. you must've been freaking out on your way to pick her up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm doctorjazz:

I see Dave has a gig in NYC in a few weeks
Sunday, January 12th:
6pm: JUAN P CARLETTI - Solo Drums!
7pm: ARON NAMEMWIRTH - Guitar / DAVE SEWELSON - Bari Sax / COLIN HINTON - Drums!
8pm: CHRIS PITSIOKOS / JAVIER A V / KEVIN MURRAY - Alto Sax / Guitar / Drums!
(From the Downtown Music Gallery newsletter)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm fred:

@coel: The scum of the earth resent your lumping them together with transit cops
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm doctorjazz:

Avatar 4:01pm coelacanth∅:

fred haha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm fred:

@woel: I don't know about the NJ subspecies, but uniforms, unchecked power and a wannabe attitude are not a great combination

fred -well let us see who rises to the top when we've got them all trapped in a giant (GIANT) vat of water (bought at a premium from nestlé of course, the ceo's of which didn't know they were getting in that vat as well)

Tonight's does seem fun, but getting old, don't think I can drag back in. Interesting that Nels Cline, who I've seen together a few times (In a trio with Larry Ochs), are playing the same gig inn different bands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm doctorjazz:

(But, I see they are in the same band tomorrow night...hmmm...)
