Yes it is nice to pay tribute to people while they are alive. So too, money owed. I hope my creditors don't think me a 'deadbeat' when I shuffle off with my accounts unpaid. Except my bartender. I think when you get to a certain age you should prepay your tab.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am The Oscar:

Bonzos! Oh, and Hi Joe ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am The Oscar:

@heyitschris As showcases for his work, I'd recommend "Keynsham" by the Bonzo Dog Band or either Rutles album. All the Bonzos' albums are great, but most lean more toward the (also great) nuttiness of co-founder Vivian Stanshall, who we heard earlier :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am tim from champaign (now washington):

@sphere - also solid music but tongue in cheek for sure. I don't think I'd sit down to listen to the Spinal Tap album (I'd watch the movie anytime though) but I would throw on a Bonzo Dog Band record anytime.
Avatar 11:33am Brian in UK:

I never cease to be amazed how popular the Bonzoes were in America because the humour is frightfully English. Perhaps it is just FMU listeners that give this impression.
Terry Keeps His Clips On always makes me laugh, from Viv's Teddy Boys Don't Knit.
  11:33am Brendan:

Great philisophical question in Godfrey . Rock and Roll has ignored the chicken and egg question too long. Neil was a rebel and a pioneer. I mean 'is' not 'was' . Gotta get used to these living tributes.

@Carm I like Piggy in the Middle and Doubleback Alley

Another bit of comedy music for me that transcends novelty is Alice Bowie Band's "Earache My Eye." I love that song!
Avatar 11:36am Brian in UK:

@tadpoles, the lyrics to Bass Macaw & Broken Bottles is very disturbing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am The Oscar:

Don't know if it's on the docket, but the '90s Rutles album ("Archaeology") is super underrated. The version of "Shangri La" on that album may be the most comprehensive Beatles parody ever recorded.

@steveo I think I read somewhere that the Rutles began because Eric Idle pointed out that the songs he was writing for the show they were doing together were getting more and more Beatlesque, so they decided to lean into the curve!

Thanks for this immersion Joe. A wonderful morning of listening. Cheers

Miss Innes Trib !
Outstanding. Will be linking to that...
Rutles is plain freaking genius - & before Spinal Tap. The dry take on it is part of the thang...
Did he get Clapton on that last one??
  11:51am johnzo:

Damn I didn’t even know you played some already haha guess I didn’t know those ones
  11:52am johnzo:

Now I feel dumb. Happy birthday Neil!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am Ken From Hyde Park:

Thanks, Joe. Have a bright and sunny week.
Still time to send pledges for 2019 tax advantages, folks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am The Oscar:

So nice to hear a tribute like that and not walk away sad that the artist is gone!

I actually saw All You Need Is Cash when it was broadcast.
  11:53am Brendan:

Ruts and grooves are the stuff that Surface Noise is made of. Thanks for making all my Monday ruts groovy, @Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Crap ratings on broadcast of course.
  11:53am Mike Wolf:

“Horses” was a most dramatic moment in his set last night. Thank you again Joe.
Avatar 11:55am Joe McG:

Nice to hear, Mike! I wish I could've gone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am Cmurtha:

thanks for the show, and introducing me to Neil Innes (who I suppose I had heard before through the Rutles but not his solo stuff)
Avatar 11:56am TDK60:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am steveo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm WR:

Just in time Joe. I hope Neil heard this and many other tributes on his birthday. Had book marked this show since seeing it mentioned on DDR. The unexpected and sad news today put listening to this to the top of the list. Lovely survey. Followed the Twitter link @Bill W posted @11:41. Just a few days ago he was grumping cleverly about the world. Had not noticed before how much love of humanity he carried with every clever turn of phrase.
