One of the oddest of hit songs, and delightfully orientalist. Made weirder by the fact Aneka is Scottish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Paddy MeBoy:

Love this song. Heard it first in Grand Theft Auto Vice City. I used to just park the car and listen to the radio.

What a great show, Sheila B!!
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2020 Swag For Life Member 3:47pm listener james from westwood:

Jeez, there's like three or four things I can think of off the top of my head from the past several decades of music and film that use that exoticized "Asian riff." Not sure if it got a lot of use after, say, The Vapours, but one would hope not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm chris:

Avatar 3:50pm mariano:

@djsheilab: If you want to get a sense of all the music in the GTA games, check out this link: www.grandtheftwiki.com... It isn't just the song choice, it's the DJs: people like Iggy Pop, Keith Morris, Chuck D, Axl Rose, Bootsy Collins, Juliette Lewis, Cara Delevigne, lots of others. They're playing characters too, usually stereotype versions of themselves. Axl plays a washed-up, burned-out former hard rocker, etc.
  3:52pm Joe in Bushwick:

That link is broken FYI
  3:52pm spodiodi:

Bootsie, Lee Scratch Perry, and Loggins are probably my faves
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2020 Swag For Life Member 3:53pm WO Town Wick:

From the male singer Graham Parker there is a song Discovering Japan off his great Squeezing Out Sparks album that has a killer lyric about a Japanese lady dealing with the GI's in the post WWII occupation--"Seeing a million miles between their jokes and smiles"

This First Choice record was a biggee for me back when it was a hit, so was "Smarty Pants" their other single at the time. Great percussion on both!

Been tuned in, haven't had a chance to comment - but enjoyed the show. Way to close out strong with some Weather!

Nichelle Nichols has had some troubles with Alzheimer’s symptoms and is formally retiring from public life. There’s a huge convention planned in California next year to celebrate her, there are already a zillion luminaries from the worlds of Trek, NASA, and the Civil Rights movement announced to be there.

Did I forget to mention Irma Thomas, Much love, Sheila <3

@Meesalikeu - Sorry, didn't mean to come across like Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons. Thanks Sheila, what a fun show - great hanging out with everyone too!

That's really sad about Nichelle Nichols, I'm glad she's being honored.

Lots of clicky stars this evening!
Thank you Sheila!

@P-90...YES! And D.C. Fontana just passed this week. A true pioneer in the Sci-fi world. She used her initials just so she didn't have to deal with the BS of being female in what many saw as a man's game. Shame!

Ain’t my fault
