Charles Mingus said jazz was a word invented to separate musicians from their money. Music for a Free World brings us together, drawing listeners to the healing power of smooth free jazz. Each week, surprise guests bring their own sides to spin and their instruments of choice to spontaneously jam.

I was thinking some parts of your music sounded a bit cinematic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Dropof Goldensun:

My daughter plays both alto and tenor. She's been bugging me to get her a tenor. Up till now she's been borrowing one. She's 20.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm Dropof Goldensun:

Ayumi I'm thinking the tenor along with taking her to one of your shows might be an excellent present!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Dave in Vermont:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm doctorjazz:

This is the album Jerry Garcia guested on
.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm doctorjazz:

Missed Ayumi, that kind of day, late and missing everything (wife and friends are at a play I got in too late for, wandering Manhattan streets waiting for it to let out...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm doctorjazz:

Bout of country feel here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Dropof Goldensun:

Great show Dave. I have to run. Till next week!
Avatar 4:00pm Dave Sewelson:

Avatar 4:01pm Dave Sewelson:

right doctor...ayumi is here and we will play some more....diggin ornette at her request
Avatar 4:01pm northguineahills:

Happy Hour is the only song Ornette gave personal permission to sample. He gave it to Mike Paradinas aka U-ziq (TheMoreYouKnow.gif)
  4:03pm Carmichael:

Wish I could live in a free world.
Avatar 4:05pm Dave Sewelson:

ngh...what track did Mike Paradinas use it one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm ParUbi:

I "discovered" jazz with Ornette. I thought jazz was boring dinner music until I overheard "A Circle with a Hole in the Middle"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm doctorjazz:

Great way to wait! Glad I brought along some headphones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm doctorjazz:

Saw Prime Time at Town Hall (double bill with Ornette's quartet...Great show)!
Avatar 4:08pm northguineahills:

"let let" on Urmur Bile Vols. 1 & 2.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Stanley:

Ornette was my 'gateway', too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm doctorjazz:

Singing...is one of the tracks with Garcia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Stanley:

Digging these pieces, immensely
Avatar 4:12pm northguineahills:

TBH, I discovered jazz via Herbie, Dave Brubeck, and Bill Evans in HS. I don't think I discovered Ornette until I was a freshman in uni.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm ParUbi:

I just wasn't exposed to anything good until college. I went to high school in Kentucky, so ...
Avatar 4:14pm Dave Sewelson:

glad you here Stanley
Avatar 4:14pm Dave Sewelson:

ParUbi..you went to college?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm doctorjazz:

...Shower also has Garcia.
Avatar 4:15pm northguineahills:

(in HS, my friends and I would sneak into the jazz festival in Jacksonville by pretending to be caterers, or once climbing along the fence at the shoreline of the St Johns River.)
Avatar 4:15pm Dave Sewelson:

Camichel is living in the world free
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm doctorjazz:

Gateway to jazz...took a jazz history class at Brooklyn College, taught by Chuck Israels..
Had no idea at the time that was a big deal, but it was a great class, and I was hooked.
Avatar 4:19pm Dave Sewelson:

welcome to the other side
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm doctorjazz:

(I had tried taking Miles Smiles out of the library a few years earlier, found it impenetrable at the time)
Avatar 4:25pm northguineahills:

what got me out of my indie rock ghetto was happening on a William Parker/Mathew Shipp and a Sam Rivers quartet show when I was 19. It totally changed my epistemological understanding og experiential topographies of what can be music. It lead me on a trail of discovery that took me to wfmu, of all places....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm ParUbi:

I never said I went inside the buildings!
Avatar 4:26pm northguineahills:

errr, …. the of the experiential....(darn typos and articles of the noun!)
Avatar 4:28pm northguineahills:

errrrrrgh, …...of the experiential...(there's even a preview before commenting,......no excuse...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm ParUbi:

Experiential for epistemological, or how about an empirical epistemology?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm ParUbi:

Oh, I see! Missed the experiential topographies which allow for the proliferation of typologies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm doctorjazz:

Been Great company, gotta run, by Free Folks!
  4:33pm David J:

Or 3:31 pm and 71 degrees, depending on where you’re at!
