I'm ready for whatever happens here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Phillippe Bastille:

I came here expecting to hear this song.
Avatar 12:05pm Mary Wing:

Hi chresti, so prompt today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm chresti:

I woke up early yet I'M 3 minutes late!
Avatar 12:06pm Mary Wing:

Hello Phillippe! Did you call the Psychic Friends Hotline?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Phillippe Bastille:

Nah. It was showing as the "Now Playing" thing on the homepage. So it was no surprise, actually.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm chresti:

Perfect music for another rainy Wednesday, Mary
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Phillippe Bastille:

Our weather report says it's "Partly Sunny". I think that part is above the thick bank of dark clouds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm coelacanth∅:

hello Mary, 100%ers
Avatar 12:15pm Mary Wing:

Greetings, coelacanth!

Hello, Mary, those who dig the Ding!, and those who, inexplicably, don't. Buzzing 'round the hive...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm doctorjazz:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Mary!
Hi everyone!
Avatar 12:34pm Mary Wing:

Hello David, Sem, doctorjazz, Ken, and Rich! Wednesday Whatever assemble!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Franco Twinkie:

Good morning Ms. Wing.
Avatar 12:42pm Mary Wing:

Howdy, Franco and all on the west coast!
  12:42pm rw:

Good morning! How was that Kronos Quartet? I missed it. I don't remember being particularly interested in the original soundtrack album but it's been decades.
  12:46pm rw:

D. Sylvian is sounding just about right right about now.
Avatar 12:49pm Mary Wing:

Hiya rw, yeah, trying to keep the holiday/shopping frenzy at bay today, heh.
Avatar 12:50pm Mary Wing:

It's a Phillip Glass piece, so it sounds like Phillip Glass, heh.
  12:51pm rw:

This Harold Budd piece sounds nothing like the Paul McCarthy I know of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm chresti:

Yeah, pretty mellow for Paul McCarthy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm ParUbi:

Hi Mary & every-1
Avatar 12:57pm Mary Wing:

Hello ParUbi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Franco Twinkie:

RW, I saw Pauls wife at Whole Foods yesterday. Made me think of the video where he smears ketchup allover the place.
Avatar 1:00pm Mary Wing:

Is Paul on wife #3 now?
Avatar 1:02pm βrian:

You mean right now? What?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Franco Twinkie:

Mary, I think we're talking about different Pauls.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm chresti:

Paul #1's wife is the one and only, as far as we know..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm ParUbi:

McCarthy vs. McCartney
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Ike:

Rhetorical existential legal question: If Pan Am is no longer around to sue Fly Pan Am, can Fly Pan Am be sued?
Avatar 1:09pm Mary Wing:

OH, I thought you meant McCartney, my bad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm chresti:

The battle of the Pauls
Avatar 1:13pm Mary Wing:

Hi Ike! Dunno; I suppose if there's some type of lingering corporate entity, they could pursue it?
  1:14pm JakeGould:

Hey Mary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm ParUbi:

Ketchup video (warning, naked person with ketchup): www.youtube.com...
  1:15pm rw:

FT, That's funny. I wouldn't have recognized her, unless she were crawling through ketchup on the floor.
Avatar 1:16pm βrian:

Heading out for some moo goo gai pan am.
Avatar 1:23pm Mary Wing:

Hi Jake and Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Michael 98145:

Hey, Mary
Avatar 1:31pm Mary Wing:

hey there Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Michael 98145:

Looks like i need to catch that Mishima set in the archive!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

…please pass the ketchup. howdy, Mary and 100% of all you Whatevers!
Avatar 1:34pm βrian:

I'm not old enough to watch that video, apparently.
Avatar 1:37pm Mary Wing:

Hi Granny! I will see what that ketchup video is about later, unless YouTube decides I'm not otld enough too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Michael 98145:

not a pretty sight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Granny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Rich in Washington:

That track from Early Sampling Puzzle album sounded familiar. Like something I heard on the radio decades ago. Curious.
Avatar 1:41pm βrian:

I'm more partial to mayonnaise, in any case.
Avatar 1:41pm Mary Wing:

Here's the info, what little there is, Rich: delodio.bigcartel.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Michael 98145:

Cale!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks, Mary! I may have to get that. It looks fascinating either way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Parq:

John needs to learn to relax.
Avatar 1:48pm Mary Wing:

Heh, Parq!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Webhamster Henry:

I forgot about that 4th of December line!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Parq:

I saw him years ago and he ended most of his numbers that way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Webhamster Henry:

Jeez 40 years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Rich in Washington:

Robert Fripp produced this album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Phillippe Bastille:

They know Loudon Wainwright III, don't they? He's kinda famous
Avatar 1:51pm Mary Wing:

He has a daughter with Suzzy Roche, Phillippe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Phillippe Bastille:

One knows him better than the others
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Rich in Washington:

The missus and I were binging early M*A*S*H episodes recently and Loudon was a semi-recurring guest character.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Parq:

Yeah, the Wainwrights, the McGarricals (sp?) and the Roches are all related by marriage and whatnot. Must make for interesting Thanksgivings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Phillippe Bastille:

He was pretty good in Undeclared
Avatar 1:54pm Roberto:

I noticed that, Rich, when my daughter recently watched the entire run on Hulu. It was a regular trip down memory lane for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Rich in Washington:

We also noticed the spot where the series definitely jumped the Alan Alda's ego/shark.
Avatar 1:56pm βrian:

"George-er" Heh.
Avatar 1:56pm Roberto:

I saw Mike Farrell in a Baskin-Robbins once.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Hello alles.
Guess Loudon had a thing for sister vocal groups.
Saw Cale at J&R Music (luunchtime concert thing) twenty odd years ago. He was screaing during that one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Rich you mean the sanctimony-filled not-very-funny episodes that littered the last few years?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Parq:

I think Wainwright was supposed to be a formal addition to the cast, but they decided (or he decided) it wasn't working out. He was a dentist, Capt. Jeffrey Spaulding yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm KevinfromBayRidge:

"Wasn't screaming"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Phillippe Bastille:

I read somewhere that Larry Linville was always treated like he was Frank Burns in real life. Turned him into a bitter man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Parq:

A lot of people let themselves get defined by that show. Burghoff and Stevenson never accomplished much of anything afterwards either. But Linville got the short end of the stick because he was just playing the part as it was written.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm coelacanth∅:

Phillippe that's sad
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Phillippe Bastille:

I think Burghoff wound up in Hawaii running a yogurt stand or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

yay, Roches!!!!
Avatar 2:02pm βrian:

@PB: I'm sure he saw it coming, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Parq:

Anyway, back to the Roches. Fripp produced their second album too, in so-called audio verite, which is why that track Mary played sounds like it was recorded straight to an Ampeg reel to reel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm coelacanth∅:

imagine how many people hated Carol O'Connor until he played other roles after all in the family
Avatar 2:04pm Roberto:

I think a lot of people loved Archie Bunker even when they hated him.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

my wazoo is ready!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm coelacanth∅:

(on the other hand [ie] i dated a woman who's father liked all in the family because he liked and related to archie bunker; so he at least would've treated Carol O'Connor well in the "real" world)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Michael 98145:

isn't Bunker now in the Senate?

:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Phillippe Bastille:

Funny how some people can transcend those early defining roles. Lenny sure did good for himself, Squiggy not nearly as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm coelacanth∅:

yes this song is still relevant
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Ike:

Typecasting is why most actors who play Doctor Who don't stick around for more than three years and then the Doctor "regenerates" into a new body. Those British actors are savvy. Too bad the current head writer can't regenerate into somebody with more freakin' talent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Parq:

Michael, yeah, that or a Cabinet post.
Avatar 2:07pm Roberto:

Coel, the same goes for my father-in-law. He loved the character because it reminded him of a lot of people he worked with in construction.
Avatar 2:07pm βrian:

Isn't dating someone on the other hand a euphemism for something?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Michael 98145:

something to do with a calendar?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Phillippe Bastille:

I think carbon half-life
Avatar 2:11pm Mary Wing:

Heh. You people.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm coelacanth∅:

βrian haha! - and yes; some of my best relationships
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Michael 98145:

this is a swell version
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm coelacanth∅:

...i had to look up lenny and squiggy. don't know those actors by their photos or names
Avatar 2:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...No Pun
...my babe
...No Pun...
Avatar 2:12pm βrian:

Where I grew up it was "dating Miss Michigan."
Avatar 2:13pm Mary Wing:

I never saw "Hello Larry" but was Stephenson playing Colonel Blake again in that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Franco Twinkie:

Michael Mckean and David L. Landers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm coelacanth∅:

i've never heard any covers of this -a song i've always loved and play on the jukebox at the pub sometimes...
i'm excited!
Avatar 2:14pm Mary Wing:

They have this on the jukebox? I'm impressed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Coel You young 'un! Lenny is Michael McKean (Spinal Tap and many others), Squiggy actor does some cartoon voices here and there
Avatar 2:15pm Mary Wing:

Michigan looks like a hand, so I can see where this is going: getting handy with the ladies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Michael 98145:

:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Parq:

Michael McK replaced Harvey Firestein as Edna in the stage version of Hairspray. *That* must have been something to see.
Avatar 2:16pm Roberto:

I saw Lenny in a play last year. And sorry, Mary, classic sit-coms seems to be the theme on the comments board today.
Avatar 2:17pm βrian:

And we were handy, if nothing else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm coelacanth∅:

heh Phillippe childish maybe...
never saw spinal tap but i did see laverne & shirley a couple of times. never cared about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Franco Twinkie:

Phillipe, David L. Landers played Lance Peebles in The Credibility Gap. A nerdy math wizard crybaby.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Parq:

That said, I agree with Coales. I'm looking forward to hearing what other folks have done with this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Phillippe Bastille:

His character on Better Call Saul was pretty darn good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Franco never saw it -- movie or TV? I have to admit, he has a great name for an Executive Producer, if he ever decides to be one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Franco Twinkie:

I use to see those guys at The Ashgrove. They were drop dead hilarious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm coelacanth∅:

considering this is a female r&b singer in the current decade, it ain't bad
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Parq:

I'm always amazed at Mary's ability to find so many covers of tracks that most of us don't think of as often-covered.
Avatar 2:22pm Mary Wing:

There are TONS of instrumentals of this, but I would prefer vocal versions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Webhamster Henry:

George Benson knows what he's doing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Phillippe Bastille:

@coel okay, your homework assignment is to see Spinal Tap. "I do not, for one, think that the problem was that the band was down. I think that the problem may have been, that there was a Stonehenge monument on the stage that was in danger of being crushed by a dwarf."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Franco Twinkie:

It was a on KRLA and KPPC in the 60's and 70's. Two radio stations in Pasadena. They would mangle the news.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Michael 98145:

agreed, @Parq
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Michael 98145:

i remember KRLA "radio Carla"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm Phillippe Bastille:

Now, if only there was a Loretta Swit cover of this...
Avatar 2:24pm Mary Wing:

Heh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm Parq:

Oh God, are we going to start with Spinal Tap quotes? That was a festival at, um, the Isle of, um, the Isle of Lucy.
Avatar 2:26pm Roberto:

I saw Loretta Swit in a vegan restaurant once. Seems like I'm always seeing someone somewhere, doesn't it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Phillippe Bastille:

Patrick McNee was the only actor in the film that had to have scripted lines.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm coelacanth∅:

Phillippe i'll add it to the list. i might have to tack on an extra decade to my life.
Avatar 2:27pm βrian:

Is there a cowbell credit, Mary?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Roberto were you in The Blue Rooster in Annapolis last Saturday morning? I was the tall ugly guy.
Avatar 2:28pm Mary Wing:

There should be, if not, Brian!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Phillippe Bastille:

@coelacanth I'd wedge that in between #6 and #7. #6a
Avatar 2:29pm Mary Wing:

The album credits Ralph MacDonald as "percussion" so I guess he held the cowbell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm coelacanth∅:

i probably see many more famous people than i'm aware of.
several times i've been told who i'd just been talking with
Avatar 2:30pm Roberto:

Dammit, Phillippe, if I'd known I'd have said hello.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm Stanley:

Otherwise known as 'Old' McDonald
And hellooooo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm brainiac:

Hey @Franco! Did you happen to know Sie Holliday from KRLA?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm coelacanth∅:

in a "genre" that i typically dislike, by an artist that generally bores me...
i quite liked that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Franco Twinkie:

Name is familiar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Roberto my 'FMU tee shirt was hidden under my Todd Chavez red hoodie. You couldn't have known.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm Webhamster Henry:

Now I have to get some Pam Grier Movies.
Avatar 2:33pm Mary Wing:

Aw, no badmouthing of George Benson, please!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm coelacanth∅:

so Mary how're you liking the luxury of a 3ok featuring a 10-minute song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm Parq:

It's nice that electric pianos sound so realistic nowadays, but I miss the sound of a Rhoades.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm coelacanth∅:

i said i (quite) liked it!
  2:34pm spodiodi:

hello Mary Wing and co. -- been very loving the show and the chat when possible. shout out to Spinal Tap (the name of one of my favorite Worms (game) team names (just played a couple of rounds wiht them last night)) PS - The World is a Ghetto is a nice choice, and new to me. ¡Gracias!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm brainiac:

I loved the syndicated show "The Oidar Wavelength" Sei Holliday played a robot DJ from the future called "Programmer Number Nine"
But she was mostly known from Pop Chronicles.
  2:34pm spodiodi:

loving the covers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm coelacanth∅:

(i even gave it a gold star)
Avatar 2:35pm Mary Wing:

I have had my bathroom break, coealcanth, so yay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:35pm brainiac:

Wikl says she was the first female disk jockey in Los Angeles.
Avatar 2:36pm Roberto:

My father was heavy into jazz guitar in the late '70s/early '80s. He admired Benson but Earl Klugh was his go-to guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Parq:

Some rockin' comment icons showing up today, gang.
Avatar 2:39pm Mary Wing:

hiya Henry, spodiodi and brainiac! Glad you made it today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm coelacanth∅:

Mary, "generally bores me" isn't bad coming from me! i respect him and appreciate him; have an album and 2 45s of Mr.Benson.
-it's just not a style of music that i reach for that's all
Avatar 2:39pm Mary Wing:

hello Stanley! And the lurking RevRab!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm brainiac:

Glad to be here, Mary
Avatar 2:40pm Mary Wing:

Okay, coelacanth, fair enough.
Avatar 2:40pm Sem:

3OAK today=A-OK in my book.

Spent a train trip from Vancouver to Halifax accompanied by Breezin' on a little cassette player. Five days, George and I were bros at the end of it.
Avatar 2:40pm βrian:

I wonder what's next ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm Franco Twinkie:

Brainiac, I have a comp of The Pop Cronicles! That, and air checks from '69. I have to hit the road - I'm gonna take them with me.
Avatar 2:42pm Mary Wing:

Heh. You kids and your tapes, Sem...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm brainiac:

Guess I've been spelling her name wrong: Sie (pronounced Cy)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Phillippe Bastille:

I tend to refer to all smooth jazz songs by the genre rather than the title. "Whatcha listening to, Phillippe?" "Smooth Jazz" {one hour passes} "Whatcha listening to now, Phillippe?" "Smooth Jazz"
Avatar 2:43pm Sem:

What goes around, Mary...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Michael 98145:

great set
Avatar 2:44pm βrian:

Did Big Al cover this yet?
Avatar 2:44pm Mary Wing:

If only there were a hair metal version, sigh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm Michael 98145:

i usually respond to "what's THAT you are listening to?!" with "WFMU"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Stanley:

"Smooth Jazz". Love it but I don't have the courage to let people know that
............th, th, they just wouldn't understand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm coelacanth∅:

"breezin'" is the one i have. good album. i also have the 7" of this masquerade, for some reason (probably was my brother's)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Michael The best response for an early Friday afternoon is "Marbles in a Blender"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Stanley:

I love "easy listening", too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Parq:

Can we stop a minute and agree that Marbles In A Blender would be a good name for a band?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Phillippe Bastille:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm brainiac:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm coelacanth∅:

i agree with Rabbit on the band name (except a small m)

I think Bryce needs to copyright Marbles in a Blender before someone cops it and makes a billion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Stanley:

This 3ok could go on all night, as far as I'm concerned.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Michael 98145:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm Michael 98145:

Avatar 2:57pm Mary Wing:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57pm Michael 98145:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm Phillippe Bastille:

We tried to talk Bryce into reissuing that shirt but he won't do it. Makes me sad.
