Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar 12:22pm Franco Twinkie:

In 1980 when The Specials played at The Whisky, The Alleycats, a great L.A. punk band opened the show. I remember thinking How can The Specials top this? Well, the thunder and heat The Specials created was something to behold. After that, The Alleycats became more focused fierce. Never again would they be caught with their pants down.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm melinda:

This is great! Reminds me of Hayseed Dixie, the bluegrass tribute to AC/DC.
  12:38pm John from Florham park:

@Chresti you did a great job during Fabios show yesterday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Rich in Washington:

bluegrass music always reminds me of falling asleep to the weird freeform music block of DJs on KBOO on Friday nights and waking up to the country and bluegrass block.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm joe:

I was just going to post about how there is an amazing Bluegrass version of Thunderstuck
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm melinda:

Magic Carpet Ride was already one of my favorite classic rock hits.
  12:39pm dan:

This set must be country and bluegrass tributes to classic rock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm joe:

Funny enough this is not the version I was thinking of
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Rich in Washington:

I was recently reunited with one of my favorite albums when I was a teen - Steppenwolf's 16 Greatest Hits. Used to crank that up on cassette in my first car, a giant, boaty Pontiac LeMans.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Uncle Michael:

This song would have been a good way to Finnish the set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm chresti:

Not yet, the fire season is just starting @dan. We're a safe distance from canyons where the winds are stronger. We worry about friends that live closer to the fires up north
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm melinda:

Omg it jest gets better
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Rich in Washington:

This track gobsmacked me just as hard as the first time I heard Johnny Cash's cover of NIN's Hurt.
  12:43pm Wilson in SO:

This is doing wonders for my synesthesia
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Rich in Washington:

and Charles Bradley's Changes. I was driving when I first heard it and nearly rear-ended someone in my gobsmackedness.
  12:46pm dan:

And now we have rock covering country. Nice reversal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Rich in Washington:

Although with the Bradley cover, it was doubly weird, because I thought "AHA! -Changes was a cover of an old R&B song all along!" I'd never heard Charles Bradley before and its Motown-style production fooled me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm chresti:

@John, I was following Clay's orders, no work or effort was involved
Avatar 12:47pm Listening Out There:

I read a book on Jimmy Webb recently, who wrote Wichita Lineman, a song about a working person. He said there weren't enough songs about working people. Workin' on a Building happens to be a good example of one o' those...

While getting an original pressing can be cool from a collector's POV or hold additional metadata regarding time and place the music was initially released, bottom line is the music. And in general the Rough Trade comps are significantly better than most of that ilk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Rich in Washington:

Wow! Never heard this before! It's fantastic!

Huh. A remake of Tales of Brave Ulysses. Will wonders ever cease...
