Greetings sv, all.
Avatar 12:06am
sv:

hello aitch ! welcome
Avatar 12:08am
sv:

and welcome to any others out there - abnegating my previously announced 8 bit metal show tonight in favor of a heartbreak/nostalgia/drought special
  12:33am
greatb:

hello nowhere placers. here we are!
Avatar 12:34am
sv:

hello greatb - thank for you joining us :)
  12:35am
greatb:

what was the reason for no 8-bit? i missed it
Avatar 12:36am
sv:

i decided that no one [including me] wanted to hear that for 3 hours straight at this hour, plus i'd done two weekends of specialty shows and wanted to get back to my regular persona
  12:38am
greatb:

word, i respect that! to keep the development/evolution of the show moving forward
Avatar 12:40am
sv:

something like that ! feels good to get back in my regular mode, tbh
  12:41am
greatb:

i must say i particularly liked the slowed down show :)
Avatar 12:41am
sv:

i enjoyed that one too! will do another volume of that at some point
  12:41am
greatb:

sometimes themes emerge organically
Avatar 12:43am
tak:

this song hits hard
Avatar 12:43am
sv:

this song destroys me every time i hear it
Avatar 12:44am
tak:

the whole album hits hard, but this one is the heaviest
Avatar 12:44am
sv:

@greatb yeah, that's kinda why i like coming in with no real plans. it's fun to see what emerges from that.
  12:47am
jonny:

sv..abnegating....what a beautiful word you rarely hear...without cheating...the first thing I thought of was. relinquishment...some words still hold beauty...
  12:48am
rw:

How-dee! No 8 bit metal?? I do want to know what that means, but by the sound of it, I'm not sure I'd make it through.
Avatar 12:48am
sv:

jonny, that's exactly the association i hoped for - appreciate you saying something
Avatar 12:49am
sv:

hey rw! it was gonna be a show of metal in the style of gameboy soundtracks, basically. woulda lost my mind by the end of the first hour, i reckon.
  12:53am
greatb:

those super pure saw waves and whatnot can get in anyone's head
  12:53am
rw:

There was a DJ out here on KXLU who did a show of video game music. I'm not sure if it's still on but it was more listenable than you might think.
  12:54am
rw:

Not all 8 bit though
Avatar 12:56am
sv:

yeah, i think if it's not just 8bit the whole time it can be really enjoyable, and i like the way 8 bit stuff sounds. it's just the idea of 3 hours of it that at one point sounded very appealing and challenging before becoming something that sounded rather unpalatable
  12:58am
greatb:

maybe slowed down 8 bit metal
Avatar 12:59am
sv:

now there's an idea
  1:00am
greatb:

it's one of those situations where the idea is clearly on the right track, there's another show which might answer the questions it poses
Avatar 1:03am
sv:

just gonna keep on knocking on ideas' doors until the right ones answer and donate to my cause
  1:04am
rw:

When I was in college we would get a Pong game set so that it kept in stasis (the ball would bounce back and forth in the same pattern without moving the paddles) and use it as a drum track. I don't remember what we overlaid on top, but I do remember making the patterns!
  1:05am
rw:

Clearly the Pong part was the most interesting!
Avatar 1:06am
sv:

rw that's so cool!! holy hell, i love that
  1:06am
rex:

your the zilog Z80 of ecstasy...i8lovwhtbitudo...always
Avatar 1:06am
sv:

you don't have any recordings of any of those sessions, do you?
  1:06am
rw:

I can hear the tape moving across the heads on this Tadashi Aioi
Avatar 1:06am
sv:

it's a filthy rip, to be sure
  1:07am
greatb:

at first i was imagining it happening as ping pong
  1:07am
rw:

sv, college was a LONG time ago!
Avatar 1:08am
sv:

aw shucks, i was hoping you'd have some tapes you could dust off !
  1:11am
rw:

Ha! I'm sure they'd be super embarrassing in a kind of endearing way.
Avatar 1:12am
sv:

i think that can really be an artistic sweetspot, ya know
  1:20am
huv:

flesh for lulu...march violets...dance society...red lorry yellow lorry....those were fun times
Avatar 1:21am
sv:

i'm just starting to properly get into some goth rock stuff, been sounding real good this fall [if only it'd stay cold]
  1:29am
rw:

Sorry to backtrack, but there exists in the world at least three hours of 8 bit metal?
Avatar 1:30am
sv:

@rw yes indeed - in addition to people who make originals in the style there are also droves of 8 bit covers of recorded metal songs available
  1:33am
rw:

It's a crazy world we live in.
Avatar 1:33am
sv:

truly
  1:38am
greatb:

indeed, think of an even not-so-popular metal song and you will find an 8-bit of it
  1:38am
greatb:

then we can talk about MIDI
  1:42am
pp:

fun show, everything sounds timeless
Avatar 1:43am
sv:

thanks pp, glad you think so - i was surprised by that finding when putting it together but never know if my perceptions can be trusted
  1:44am
greatb:

definitely a strong time traveling element
Avatar 1:45am
sv:

makes me happy to hear that, just cracked a smile in the studio :)
  1:46am
Cliff back in the U.S.S.A.:

I'm enjoying the show too, nice moody soundtrack for my drive home from work so late at night.
Avatar 1:48am
sv:

glad you're enjoying it,, cliff - i always like to imagine people driving to this show. one of the best ways to listen to music if you ask me
  2:08am
greatb:

i'm imagining intergalactic travel
  2:08am
rw:

Okay, I'm out. Thanks sv for the heartbreak/nostalgia/drought special! 'Night all.
  2:09am
greatb:

night rw!
Avatar 2:10am
sv:

thanks for tuning in rw !! sweet dreams
Avatar 2:22am

Hi from Hanoi.. 90's-00's was a great time for musics
Avatar 2:23am
sv:

howdy ! Sure was, Rob
Avatar 2:23am
Rob Gee:

ya still had an 'epic' quality :)
  2:26am
greatb:

the image of the guy standing on the castle/hill in the linkin park video for "in the end" just flashed in front of my closed eyes
Avatar 2:27am
sv:

ah jeez, the cgi in that video - gnarly
  2:28am
greatb:

half expected jar jar binks to show up :)
Avatar 2:29am
sv:

if only

  2:35am
old ERIC thee hat:

Yessir
Avatar 2:35am
sv:

yeah, to be quite honest nothing i heard off of it stuck with me like anatomy of love. should probably go back and give it another chance.
  2:37am
old ERIC thee hat:

Was gonna say, I should dig through my mostly unorganized collection and retry it.
  2:39am
old ERIC thee hat:

Thought I might find Bedhead on the playlist.
Avatar 2:39am
sv:

bedhead would fit right in
  2:42am
old ERIC thee hat:

Totally
  2:44am
old ERIC thee hat:

In no way complaining of course. Thank you!
Avatar 2:44am
sv:

of course, i def didn't think you were! thanks for tuning in :)
  2:46am
old ERIC thee hat:

Never understood why Acetone wasn’t more popular. Amongst friends anyway.
Avatar 2:48am
sv:

i somehow never heard about them until the reissue came out a couple years ago, which is surprising given how good they are
  2:51am
BEAVO:

Cluck
  2:52am
BEAVO:

Nice
Avatar 2:53am
sv:

one of my favorite songs
  2:54am
old ERIC thee hat:

I feel like maybe they were too surfy for slowcore nerds? Or something?
Avatar 2:54am
sv:

Avatar 2:55am
