Options October 26, 2019: Inflatalk Radio
Three hours of spoken word recordings. That’s the kind of talk radio I like, and perhaps you will too. Samuel Beckett radio plays, Boris Karloff, Leonard Nimoy, John Barth, myths, legends, sound poetry, unsound poetry, instructional records, perhaps a piece or two from some of our DJs, these are a few of the things you may or may not hear tonight.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am mariano:

I thought I told Kaiser Foil to put me on their "do not call" list.
  12:17am rw:

Saving money? Of course I am!
  12:17am rich:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18am mariano:

Sigh... you can't fight Big Foil.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am Franco Twinkie:

I have that Mona Lang record! I'm still a hopeless failure. Should I give it another listen?
  12:22am Marley Dogg:

Putting the foil on
  12:22am rich:

phone have changed it's time for a new record
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23am coelacanth∅:

i don't know Franco, the way i look at it...why bother...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25am Franco Twinkie:

True that, Coel. However, the album jacket in very attractive, and it might give me a little lift just to sit in a chair and admire it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27am coelacanth∅:

haha he's gonna get warts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am coelacanth∅:

i just looked, Franco and yes that sure is an attractive album cover!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33am Franco Twinkie:

Birth Of A Salesman also has a good cover, but more of subdued noir effect in grey and green.
  12:34am JakeGould:

How many Hawaiian children were forced to listen to this?
  12:36am JakeGould:

“The Shy Guy Returns A Toaster” That is a great title.
Avatar 12:37am Roberto:

I saw Jonathan Winters a couple of times in my younger days. Not performing per se, just milling about town. The man was always "on."
  12:39am rw:

Holy cow. We were just talking about Jonathan Winters at work today. Genius!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am Franco Twinkie:

Jonathan Winters scared AND fascinated me when I saw It's A Mad Mad Mad World as a child. I wanted to smash up a gas station and drive a tow truck!
Avatar 12:44am Roberto:

He frequented swap meets around L.A. My mom and i saw him there a few times. He was always improvising.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47am mariano:

Hey, a Dr John story on a rainy New Orleans night, perfect!
Avatar 12:48am Hubig Pie:

James Booker be the Junko Partner
  12:48am rich:

yes and exclusive to this show (the recorded version). thank you steinski.
  12:48am rich:

at least for the moment
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49am Franco Twinkie:

That is a great album cover! That's The Farmer John plant in Vernon. It really stinks around there.
Avatar 12:50am Hubig Pie:

Earl King, He's an earl, He's a king, why is this man not president?
  12:58am rw:

FT, which album cover? I work down the street from Farmer John pretty much once a week. It does smell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06am Franco Twinkie:

RW. Dr. Johns Gumbo. That photo of him in front of the wall of pigs is pretty much of a rip of the first album cover by Little Feat, which was shot in Venice on Ocean Front Walkway.
  1:10am rw:

Ah! Cool. The Farmer Johns mural has been repainted since then. Not way different though.
  1:11am rw:

Speaking of Farmer John...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12am Franco Twinkie:

RW, There is a nice travelling shot of the pig mural in Zabriskie Point, the Antonioni movie.
Avatar 1:13am jeff-m:

evening
  1:14am rw:

I keep meaning to see that film. I don't see too many films though. I DID see Wm. Burroughs talk a few times when I was at school in Lawrence, KS.
  1:18am rich:

if you don't see too many films rw i would hold off on zabriskie point
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18am Franco Twinkie:

Man! You can see a movie anytime, Burroughs, not no more. When I was a kid I lived within walking distance of a Burroughs adding machine factory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19am Franco Twinkie:

See the movie. It is an alien look at our city.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21am mariano:

Good soundtrack, Zabriskie Point.
  1:23am rw:

Haha! Now I'm torn. Good news is I see so few movies I may never get to it anyway! And I do like the soundtrack!
  1:23am rich:

a film that seems much longer than it is (and it's not short) so make sure the seats are comfortable
  1:31am JakeGould:

Dial-A-Poem still works! 641-793-8122
  1:31am rw:

This is a great show Rich. I must admit I was a little skeptical at first!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am Franco Twinkie:

As a matter of fact RW, I would suggest a triple bill weekend movie jam session with Zabriskie Point, The Model Shop by Jacque Demy and Cisco Pike by Bill Norton. These are not flawed movies, just a different viewpoint. But I think you of all people, who is a relentless L.A. driver will totally get it. Their above all else about the light and the way in bounces off people and isolates them.
  1:32am JakeGould:

WFMU needs more spoken word shows.
  1:32am hevykevy:

this trippy poetic echo lyfe! im just cutting thick cardboard with a japanese knife duxt taping the f out of shapes to make werewolf jones before i clock in at noon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am Murph 37:

Thanks Rich, love this show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33am Murph 37:

Rich- At the same time, I hate this show... but I'll reconcile
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34am Murph 37:

Amazing spoken word
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34am coelacanth∅:

this sounds like some of the raving squatters that i know
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35am Franco Twinkie:

Oh yeah, and all three movies have great west coast rock music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39am coelacanth∅:

RE:rw@1.31 i knew i'd like this program but also knew how i need sleep...yet i'm still listening. of course.
big Ivor Cutler fan here, amongst others
  1:39am rw:

Checking out clips. Cars were so much cooler back then!!
Avatar 1:40am Roberto:

Snot talk!
  1:40am rw:

cc, the Ivor Cutler track was great!
  1:41am rw:

As is this Blegvad Greaves!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42am Franco Twinkie:

RW, might as well throw in It's a Mad Mad Mad World. Painfully long and filled with travelling shots of great cars and trucks in the California sunshine!
  1:44am rw:

Superfluidity of words! Nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45am Murph 37:

Ground breaking
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45am Franco Twinkie:

I am vainglorious when I can finish a cup of coffee without getting half of it down the front of my shirt.
