Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Get ready for a slightly different flavour of Flange today - more on the blues rock side of things but tasty nevertheless. :-)
Avatar 4:00pm worldsworstrecords:

My ears are primed!
Avatar 4:01pm Mr Fab:

Again, I must say..."Port-O-San." There! On with the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Here we go!!! :-)
Avatar 4:01pm worldsworstrecords:

Please Sir!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Georgy, have a fabulous show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Otis Fodder:

Here listening. Just going to stick with the brown coffee today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Port-O-San and The Brown Acid - my favourite 60s band ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thank you, Jan! :-)
And hi to Mr Fab, Otis, and Darryl :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Linda Lee:

hahahaha!! :-D
Avatar 4:03pm Martinibomb:

Cool Flange & Frigate time weeee
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

And lovely Linda and the wonderful MB - hello :-)
Avatar 4:05pm Martinibomb:

painting and working on various projects while I listen to your lovely show today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ooo, glad I can be your musical backdrop :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Today was the Saturday set for Woodstock - so the hard rock acts and The Who etc :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm chresti:

Hi GG! Hi everone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi chresti! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Linda Lee:

our regional paper printed some of their amazing photos from the festival this week. just amazing photos. www.recordonline.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

:-) <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Linda Lee:

the third largest city in the state ~ come & gone on the wind. phenomenal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

What a legacy - a wonderful snapshot in time of what people can be :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Linda Lee:

i've said this before, but i don't think the conversation about what actually happened that weekend is finished yet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I completely agree with you :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Linda Lee:

how is it that it was so peaceful and happy overall? something truly, truly special took place that i'm not sure we have the words to describe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Rich's fave ad! ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Linda Lee:

wow how funny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

There's certainly a loss of innocence with subsequent generations. Not sure why exactly tho
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Linda Lee:

hope that kept them in guitar strings a while.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Linda Lee:

i think it's about mass media basically, GG.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Georgy!
Hello everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'd have to agree with you there - there have always been mass murders and crimes and so on - but now we get this info the nano-second it happens. I think that makes people jaded and cynical and pessimistic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Linda Lee:

& the increased sophistication of methods of controlled thought & attitude.
hi Rich!
Avatar 4:19pm Mr Fab:

I like the "heavy" ("acid-rock"?) ad Iron Butterfly did for Ban deoderant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - the power of Falstaff compelled you! ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - then keep listening ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Linda Lee:

we're also trained in how to feel about it immediately, as well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

True
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Linda Lee:

that's the part that wasn't yet sophisticated enough to reach the young. now it is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Rich in Washington:

Hi LL!
Argh! Work's really insane right now. I can listen, but just occasionally prairie dog my head into the chat board rather sporadically.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Let the music soothe you then :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Linda Lee:

bet Keef just liked the 'Indian' style, GG ~ which wasn't even a single style after all, beyond Hollywood or Madison Ave! hippies picked it up in a kind of solidarity with oppression, even though their knowledge of it was largely superficial.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

He seems to have REALLY taken to it :-) And one of his albums is called "Halfbreed". :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Linda Lee:

oh boy..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Rich in Washington:

It certainly IS doing that, GeorgyGirl! This show's fantastic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Linda Lee:

well, unless his people were originally north american .. he was just trendy!
Avatar 4:30pm Mr Fab:

Adam Ant met with an AmerIndian counsel when he first came to America. Very progressive there, Adam!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Ok - I just found an obit that I didn't see before. lol. Apparently he was just obsessed with Native Americans, and the Battle of NW6 refers to disputes with Decca, his record company :-) Mystery solved :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm Linda Lee:

as i figured. checking out his album cover in a chief's headdress. the average tribesman did *not* wear that headdress, let alone some white bloke! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

A white bloke AND a Northener ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Linda Lee:

:-) that's known as 'cultural appropriation' now, without due respect for the tradition surrounding the object or style.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Linda Lee:

raining in the catskills in august. unusual. heh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Bask in a bit of The 'oo :-)
Avatar 4:41pm worldsworstrecords:

I love this period of the Who
Avatar 4:41pm worldsworstrecords:

Sell Out and A Quick One are just magnificent albums
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Linda Lee:

this is actually a temperate rain forest climate! :-)
this one's super, GG.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Me, too - even if their knowledge of geography is a bit sketchy ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Linda Lee:

:-D
Avatar 4:43pm worldsworstrecords:

Didn't Speedy Keene write that one?
Avatar 4:43pm worldsworstrecords:

Oh... brilliant!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Armenia? I'm not sure!
Avatar 4:44pm Mr Fab:

"Armenia"-Such an amazing song. The Who's "Tomorrow Never knows." Tho my daughter loves this one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I absolutely ADORE Boris the Spider. :-)
And The Ox - most rock and roll death EVER ;-)
Avatar 4:46pm worldsworstrecords:

Another classic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Linda Lee:

fabulous record. just super.
still astounds me that i saw this band perform live. Moon was incredible to watch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Moonie's one of my heroes <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Linda Lee:

like a hurricane in a human body.
Avatar 4:48pm Franco Twinkie:

Did Brit hippies live in buses too, or was it just a west coast thing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I've seen an evening of black metal bands in a pub pretty much face to face, and God knows how many metal bands over the years, but The Who were SO LOUD that I fell over. Genuinely. LOL.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

There were a fair few Brit hippies in buses :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Linda Lee:

ahahaha!! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - there you go :-)
Avatar 4:50pm Mr Fab:

Good luck selling deodorant to hippies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Linda Lee:

they weren't selling deodorant to hippies, Mr.F ! they were selling hippies to the public! :-D
Avatar 4:53pm worldsworstrecords:

That was an ace Who selection, Georgy
Avatar 4:53pm Franco Twinkie:

Okay, The Iron Butterfly did a ban commercial over here. Was that the Who? had to be...Oderono!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Thank you, Darryl! :-)
Avatar 4:54pm worldsworstrecords:

Tommy couldn't have happened without Kit Lambert
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

This is true
Avatar 4:55pm worldsworstrecords:

You need to be a certain kind of debauched!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Imagine being a hippie at Woodstock, covered in mud, and completely fucked out of your skull ... and then The Who come on and blow your mind for an hour in the dawn's early light ;-)
Avatar 4:57pm Franco Twinkie:

And what's wrong with that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Linda Lee:

strictly the energy, even. another amazing thing that happened there, as i heard from attendees: that much natural energy kept people up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I've seen quite a few young people on social media posting about how the great the music is. That made me happy :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Linda Lee:

you wouldn't want to miss anything, so you didn't!
the sun rising over these valleys is so pretty, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Linda Lee:

they're posting about the music from woodstock, GG? good for them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

They are indeed :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Linda Lee:

fantastic.
Avatar 5:02pm geezerette:

Hello, all you beautiful people !
What a groovy scene, m-a-a-a-a-an !!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hey geezerette! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Linda Lee:

hey there geezerette!
Avatar 5:03pm geezerette:

GG, I can see your aura!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Wow, my mood ring's like ... purple, man :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Every mood ring I've ever owned, without fail, stays somewhere between black and indigo. Pffft.
Avatar 5:05pm geezerette:

ha ha!

Hey, Linda! Want some trail mix?
Avatar 5:07pm Franco Twinkie:

A week ago today I had to escape from San Francisco because Outside Lands was getting under way in Golden Gate Park. But it wasn't the idea of all the crowds, traffic, and the idea of all those young people getting stoned and having fun - It was that that the best they could do for a headliner was Paul Simon!
Avatar 5:07pm Don-O:

I can hear old Pete beating Abbie off his stage from here!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I thought he;d retired last year? No?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hey Don-O! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Linda Lee:

no thanks hon. just had some of that brown rice from the kitchen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Linda Lee:

that stones ad for rice krispies kills me. the stuff is crap! :-D
Avatar 5:10pm Mr Fab:

Don-O's back in the Room!
Avatar 5:11pm Franco Twinkie:

Jefferson Airplane shilling white Levis. Just imagine how great those would look after a weekend in the mud?
Avatar 5:12pm geezerette:

GG, great to hear that kids respond to that era. Last Halloween a couple of ten year old girls came to the door and saw a Janis Joplin record on the shelf. One of them said to the other,"ooh, look! Janis Joplin!". They gave us enormous smiles, pre-teen stamp of approval.
Avatar 5:12pm Don-O:

As long the room is A/C'ed to the max, I ain't complaning'!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@geezerette - those are the coolest ten year olds :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Linda Lee:

here's an amazing voice..
Avatar 5:14pm geezerette:

Joe Cocker !!! :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Joe Cocker was just incredible :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Linda Lee:

fabulous material always.
Avatar 5:15pm geezerette:

This must've knocked the Beatles out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Apparently Paul not only adored Joe's version of Little Help but was completely honoured by it :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm Linda Lee:

the way sound moves over these mountains.. big, gaping bowls of earth! this had to be mind blowing for miles around the farm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I like that Max Yasgur was totally into it, too :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Linda Lee:

the catskills weren't thrust up, geologically. they were hollowed out by receding seas. so you really have amazing acoustics naturally.
Avatar 5:17pm geezerette:

Linda, yeah! Natural ampitheater. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Linda Lee:

yes. very cool guy. & his family allowed people to continue to camp on the site for decades afterward, while they still owned the farm. such a pretty spot. really special.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I didn't know that! I'd always assumed they were mountains. It;s mind blowing that the sea is so powerful to be able to do that :-)
Avatar 5:19pm geezerette:

GG, Yasgur sounds like a wonderful man, open hearted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Linda Lee:

geezerette. yes!
GG, had a friend from Scotland visit in the 80s & say: 'those aren't mountains. they're hills!'
but we do have some high peaks close to about 4000'. technically mountains, sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Linda Lee:

the primordial seas covered a lot!
Avatar 5:21pm Mr Fab:

can't help but be reminded of John Belushi's impression of Joe Cocker
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yeah but Scottish mountains are freezing. lol.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Linda Lee:

hahaha!! indeed.
my scottish friends do think the catskills look like the highlands. they feel at home here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I was watching the movie with a group of friends once, and when Joe Cocker was doing his thing, one of my friends shouted "TIMMY!!" and that was it. :-)
Avatar 5:24pm artbrau:

Just popped in your Marathon CD and found it's one, 1 hour, 13 minute track. Is that on purpose? Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

That was Georgy's Off-Colour Anecdote of the Day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Linda Lee:

these are pretty damn cold in winter too. the native people didn't settle on our mountains at all! just too harsh. took the nutty europeans to do that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@artbrau - how strange!! It shouldn't be ... it should all be separated. None of us do the burning tho, so I'm not entirely sure what's happened :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Linda Lee:

Timmy? dear god should i know about this?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's a VERY off-colour "South Park" thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Linda Lee:

ah. ok. :-D
Avatar 5:28pm coelacanth∅:

greetings DJ GeorgyGirl and all
Avatar 5:28pm geezerette:

This is all so great !!! :D
Avatar 5:28pm Don-O:

Jumpy organ key solo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hello coelacantho!!! :-)
Avatar 5:29pm geezerette:

Hiya, Coel!
Avatar 5:29pm artbrau:

K. Well, it's a fun compilation, anyway! But, clearly, heads must roll.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Linda Lee:

Ten Years After absolutely cooked.
Avatar 5:30pm Franco Twinkie:

Coel! Get a haircut,man!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I've never seen anyone play the guitar quite like Alvin Lee.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Linda Lee:

no kiddin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@artbrau - I'm genuinely sorry about that. :-( Glad you like the music, tho! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Linda Lee:

honestly, still have to admire what the organizers pulled off gracefully.
Mike Lang actually stopped in at our local general store a few days ago. missed him!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I helped my partner do a punk all-dayer with 11 bands - a lot of fun but a hell of a lot of nuts and bolts ... I can't even begin to imagine what Woodstock must have been like to organise.
Avatar 5:34pm coelacanth∅:

having been turned on to the woodstock soundtrack at a young age and diggin' on ten years after, and so many great -even best of artist performances on that record (those...) i still must say i like the version we just heard better.
i think he was just speeding out on it at woodstock, which is cool but it lost some groove.
...in my opinion.
Avatar 5:34pm coelacanth∅:

hey Franco, which one?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

He does pull some incredible faces as well ;-)
Avatar 5:35pm coelacanth∅:

hey geez!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:35pm Linda Lee:

that's pretty impressive right there, GG!
i couldn't organize a pot luck cookout! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

It was quite breath-takingly loud. lol. I had ear plugs in all day and it was still loud.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

All the bands and artist - nicest bunch of people I've had the pleasure to meet. Genuinely lovely people.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Linda Lee:

kudos on pulling it together! :-)
Avatar 5:38pm Martinibomb:

just made curried tempeh for lunch yuuum i kinda hate tempeh but like it in curry?
Avatar 5:39pm Franco Twinkie:

Yesterday at Trader Joes in Pasadena they were honoring Alvin Lee by giving out watermelon samples in paper pill cups.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm still getting to grips with tempeh ... I've had some stunning maple bacon style tempeh in cafes but I can';t seem to make it taste nice at home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Franco Twinkie - really? That's hysterical :-)
Avatar 5:40pm coelacanth∅:

Franco, seriously?
Avatar 5:41pm Franco Twinkie:

I kid you not! I had two.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

That's genius :-)
Avatar 5:42pm coelacanth∅:

so, the version of i'm going home you just played...i've heard it, but i can't say what it's from. was that the studio version? (but it sounded live)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

It is from ... I want to say Stonedhenge. One of the albums. I'm trying to remember now! lol
Avatar 5:44pm coelacanth∅:

i love it
Avatar 5:45pm Franco Twinkie:

Coel, I think it was on that album that had the red and purple solarized cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Linda Lee:

wasn't that sssh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Yep - Stonedhenge :-) It may very well be a bonus track.
Avatar 5:46pm coelacanth∅:

i think that's stonedhenge then?
... all but 3 of my ten years after albums are cassettes a friend made for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I miss getting cassettes :-(
Avatar 5:47pm Franco Twinkie:

Yes! Thank you Linda. Am I right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I am currently singing very loudly and off key and thoroughly enjoying myself :-)
Avatar 5:48pm Don-O:

I just got The Last Waltz on DVD for 3 bucks 4 months and have been blasting it since. A visiting distant niece complained that about the music....NOT the volume, but she didn't like the music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Linda Lee:

don't think it was on that one, love
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Don-O - none of it????
Avatar 5:49pm coelacanth∅:

shhh is the one with that cover, as Linda said, but i'm going home is not on it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I. Love. This. Song. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Linda Lee:

always loved cripple creek. :-)
Avatar 5:51pm Don-O:

Ah, it was more about her attitude than "that old music". She started to give our pets alternative names because she didn't like the ones we gave them. THATS when we kicked her out. Family politics took over from there.
Avatar 5:51pm Franco Twinkie:

It's funny Coel, I had heard heard the studio version first, bur really flipped out when the movie came out. I liked the speed trap version much better.
Avatar 5:52pm geezerette:

ha ha, definite sing along. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Linda Lee:

once aspired to be this kind of broad. i was, too. :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

:-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Linda Lee:

my first catskills car was called Bessie, too. ran to 400,000 miles!
Avatar 5:53pm Don-O:

....hey, they mentioned Spike Jones!!!!....
Avatar 5:53pm coelacanth∅:

to be honest, Franco i don't know if i have a favorite! i think i just played the woodstock version to death!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Weirdly ... all of my father's cars were called Bessie, too :-) (All as in subsequent and sequential, not that he had a million cars at once! lol)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Linda Lee:

hahah!! i think it's good luck. :-)
Avatar 5:54pm coelacanth∅:

i've met a car named bessie! i don't now recall who's car or what model.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Linda Lee:

this is just dynamite, GG. fabulous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Blimey, that's nearly all for this week :-)
Please stay tuned for the return of Don-O!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Linda Lee:

thanks so much. what a fabulous show. absolutely loved it.

DJ GG, thanks for a fabulous show!
Peace & Love, y'all!
Avatar 5:57pm Franco Twinkie:

I really have to dig out the Woodstock album and give it a once over, my memory is it is poorly engineered to a fault.
Avatar 5:57pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks GG!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

We've all had a groovy time :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Linda Lee:
