Hey Hopey! :-) It was super smooth today!

Mr Fab:

Far out! Here, you CAN take the brown acid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hey Mr Fab! :-) I'm off on a Hobo Voyage ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Also, Friday's Flange is called The Brown Acid. lol.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm
Hopey Sockmonkey:

Really diggin this version of Woodstock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

It's ideal for a groovy little chair bop, I'm finding :-)
Avatar 5:04pm
Mr Fab:

How great would it have been if Woodstock really did feature the likes of James Last, Sammy Davis Jr, The 5th Dimension, Sergio Mendes, etc. *Might* even be worth camping in the mud for. ("Woodschlock"?)
Avatar 5:05pm
Linda Lee:

wow!! this is amazing! hi!
our local papers are all about the crowds descending on the county for woodstock weekend! there's a shortage of campsites!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I need a time machine!!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi Linda Lee!!! :-)
Avatar 5:06pm
Linda Lee:

hello hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I would totally camp in the mud for James Last :-)
Avatar 5:07pm
Linda Lee:

Mr F, we camped at the site for the 25th anniversary & it was a little muddy then too. the site was just so pretty & the crowd was so nice that it was no hardship. imagine the same for the first time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I imagine it's really peaceful there too
Avatar 5:08pm
Linda Lee:

just didn't mind the mud one bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

The album couple are so adorable. They're still together :-)
Avatar 5:10pm
Linda Lee:

it was. no longer. about a decade ago the old farm was sold to a developer & became 'bethel woods center for the arts' ~ which is very clean, very much controlled, very much commercial. people enjoy it. i haven't been.
Avatar 5:11pm
Linda Lee:

for example, i haven't a clue about the festivities actually taking place there this week. i only see the headlines.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm

I can see I will be favoriting everything today :)

Hello, Linda Lee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hey Rich!!! How was the getaway? :-)
Avatar 5:14pm

right. he's not associated with 'bethel woods'. bethel woods has a board of trustees! :-)
Avatar 5:14pm

hi Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm
Rich in Washington:

The getaway was marvelous! Got to touch the ocean for the first time in way too long. It was lovely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Imagine going back in time to the hippies on Yasgur's farm and telling them that 50 years in the future there'd be a board of trustees. lol
Avatar 5:16pm
Linda Lee:

i hear it now: 'what are you on, man?' :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

That sounds so nice :-) I cannot bear being away from the sea. Ideally, Brighton could do with some Vancouver style mountains, but at least I have water to live by :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Mind you .... imagine telling them that Reagan would be president one day ... !!!
Avatar 5:19pm
Linda Lee:

that one might be a little easier to swallow! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

;-)
Avatar 5:21pm
Linda Lee:

check out this Santana cover, though! superb! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I just adore James Last. :-) I own more of his album than anyone else's. Admittedly, there are about 3 million different ones to get ;-)
Avatar 5:22pm
Linda Lee:

quite a number of people living in the area now, came for the festival & just never went home! that says a lot.
Avatar 5:23pm
Linda Lee:

wow, that says a lot about James Last, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

It looks lovely in the film, I have to admit. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm
Rich in Washington:

Now I know why Fabio's show has a bit of jungle drums right before Mr. Giant Man!
Avatar 5:23pm
Mr Fab:

Speaking of Woodstock, james Last did cover Sly & The Family Stone ( as you probly know).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm
Hopey Sockmonkey:

Rich, I was thinking the same thing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

If I didn't have the Peggy Lee cover I would have played the James Last one :-)
Avatar 5:25pm
Linda Lee:

the landscape is exactly the same. there's been no development, for very special reasons. this is the new york city watershed, meaning the city & 2 other metro areas get their water from our valleys! so development simply hasn't been allowed. when you travel the roads here it's very, very easy to imagine it's 1969. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm
Rich in Washington:

You should really visit Oregon's beaches if you ever get the chance, GeorgyGirl! It's a wonderful mix of wooded mountains and the ocean.
Avatar 5:26pm
Linda Lee:

more roads are paved. that's about it. :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I have pretty fond memories of Oregon from 1973 :-) We drove to Disneyland from B.C. :-) No beaches but lots of woods and forests and such. Gorgeous countryside :-)
Avatar 5:26pm
Linda Lee:

i've never been up that way. i'd love to go.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I used to love going to Seattle at weekends - I swear the air changed when we crossed the Canada/US border. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Linda - the Pacific Northwest is truly gorgeous
Avatar 5:29pm
Linda Lee:

gosh, i know. yet another beautiful place in this world!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

We had the most fantastic sunset today - it went from this pale coral through tangerine to shocking pink and then lavender up to a denim blue. Stunning. :-) Nature rocks :-)
Avatar 5:32pm
Linda Lee:

one thing i must say for the catskills: summertime sunsets are phenomenal. yes, She does indeed rock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I love when you talk about where you live - it sounds so blissful and calming :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

More Incredible String band on Friday! ;-)
Avatar 5:37pm
Linda Lee:

does the love show? :-)
i will say that i was never really home until i found the catskills. that saved my life. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I love it when you find a place or places that just make your soul ignite :-)
Avatar 5:38pm
Linda Lee:

yes. where you become more yourself all the time.
so sorry i may have to leave, now that the money's found us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Oh no!!! :-(
Avatar 5:40pm
Linda Lee:

yes. unless there's a miracle, i'm meant to take my leave!
Avatar 5:41pm
Linda Lee:

it's been a fabulous trip, though. i've been given more in my 30 years here, than many receive in all their lives. no complaints!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

You're an artist, is that right? Do you have a studio where you are?
Avatar 5:42pm
Mr Fab:

There were SO many lounge-y covers of "Spinning Wheel." It was jazzy enough for those cats.
Avatar 5:44pm
Linda Lee:

i've never had a studio to speak of. i've done mainly sound work, which is very portable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I feel like "Spinning Wheel" almost gets to be a lounge standard like Caravan and so on ;-)
Avatar 5:45pm
Linda Lee:

i've love having one, though! i'd love spreading out my noise-makers.
Avatar 5:46pm
Linda Lee:

i think you're right about 'Spinning Wheel'. once Tom Jones covered it, it became transcendent.
Avatar 5:46pm
Linda Lee:

really like the Wayne Shorter version ~ but i really like Wayne Shorter.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I had a studio for a year and loved it so much. My little sanctuary. :-) There was travel involved tho - not a great deal but we had a month of heavy snowfall and I couldn't get there and realised I couldn't really afford it any more. :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I wasn't really familiar with Wayne Shorter before but now may have to get more into his work. I really like this version too :-)
Avatar 5:48pm
Linda Lee:

oh, do so! it's rewarding! marvelous stuff.
about the studio: sure. that happens often. taking our leave of the crucial places.. never easy, often sensible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

He's almost got a Vince Guaraldi vibe about him - and I love Vince! Need to explore :-)
Avatar 5:50pm
Linda Lee:

this definitely has that jazzy pop thing happening. Shorter is a bit larger than that sound. you'll see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

:-)
Avatar 5:51pm
Linda Lee:

the Mob got into the acid business after prohibition & that's why there was *so much* bad acid available. typical trajectory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Oh! Weather Report!!!! Ok - I definitely need to explore him more :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm
Rich in Washington:

What a swinging set!
Avatar 5:52pm
Linda Lee:

without their distribution network the warning wouldn't have been necessary.
in a sense the whole farm took the brown acid, didn't it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I heard that it#s pretty much confirmed now that the rain at Woodstock was caused by Gov forces seeding the clouds to try and flush the hippies out. That backfired on them, eh? ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm
Rich in Washington:

Shorter also played on a Bill Laswell/Material album.
Avatar 5:54pm
Mr Fab:

Actually, Janis covered Erma.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Aha!!!! I did not know that!! That's a neat little full circle then :-)
Avatar 5:55pm
Linda Lee:

really! hadn't heard that one about the clouds. nothing shocks me, though.
look for wayne shorter's album 'juju'. very nice work!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Goodness, Wayne Shorter's personal life is so sad :-(
Avatar 5:57pm
Linda Lee:

will we hear the famous arlo guthrie sound bite about the thruway? a main artery of commerce .. closed.
that weekend the festival was the state's third largest city! really just phenomenal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I wanted to but I couldn't find it! :-(
Avatar 5:59pm
Linda Lee:

listen to this Airplane cover, though. never mind the melancholia! :-)
Avatar 6:00pm
Mr Fab:

“Port-O-San”
Avatar 6:00pm
Linda Lee:

ahaha!! that was funny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm going to have to tell the Port-O-San man's story on Friday ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

He (or rather his wife) is one of two people who sued the film makers ;-)
Avatar 6:02pm
Linda Lee:

really? why?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:03pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

She told all her neighbours and friends that he was a CEO of a company .... which got her membership of various clubs. And then the film came out ...lol.
Avatar 6:03pm
Linda Lee:

so she sued the filmmakers? :-D that's hilarious!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm
Rich in Washington:

This is fantastic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

She didn't get anything - no surprise there. ;-) What a silly woman. lol
Avatar 6:06pm
Linda Lee:

poor thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

"I see your husband's big in toilets, Brenda..." ;-)
Avatar 6:08pm
Linda Lee:

wouldn't it be nice to sue Karma that way every time? :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Also, ANY excuse to play The 5th Dimension ;-)
Avatar 6:11pm
Linda Lee:

did you say Surrealistic Pillow was the Airplane's first lp, GG? 'twas not, alas. that was Jefferson Airplane Takes Off, with Signe Anderson on vocals.
Avatar 6:11pm
Linda Lee:

listen to that sound though. they did Laura Nyro so beautifully.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

You are absolutely 100% correct. :-) I knew as I was saying Surrealistic that something wasn't right ..
Laura Nyro is everything <3
Avatar 6:14pm
Linda Lee:

this Ray Charles side is really, really delightful.
was Melanie at the festival? she did come to play for us 25 years later!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm going to recreate and rejig a show I did a couple of years ago of Laura Nyro covers and demos :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm
Rich in Washington:

I am a relative latecomer to Laura Nyro. Just fantastic.
Avatar 6:14pm
Linda Lee:

beautiful!! yes, do that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

She was :-)
I had tickets to see her in London about four years ago and the whole tour was cancelled at the last minute :-( She's an idol of mine :-)
Avatar 6:15pm
Mr Fab:

Had to look up the 5th Dimension lyrics. Theyre saying “fury's gonna take me to the glory goal.” Thought they said “glory...” er, sumthin else.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - I thought the same thing!!!!! lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I watched the glass-blowing competition show on Netflix and that's what they call the special ovens. I could NOT keep a straight face!!
Avatar 6:17pm
Linda Lee:

gosh, i'm sorry to hear that.
what happened for the 25th Anniversary was interesting. there were the usual campers at Yasgur's Farm, completely spontaneous, non-commercial thing. camping, singing. just great. a really nice gathering. then there was something 'official' & commercially promoted, put on up north ~ a nightmare. bad vibes all around. violence, arrests. so you see.
Avatar 6:18pm
Linda Lee:

Richie Havens came to sing for us at Yasgur's. real nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Oh! Is that the one that had the riots?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

There's a VERY special nod to Richie Havens at the end of today's show :-)
  6:19pm
Martinibomb:

Hello DJ GG and fellow listeners.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hello, MB!! :-)
Avatar 6:20pm
Linda Lee:

is that what they called it? riots? i called it a shit show! :-D
hi MB!
Avatar 6:22pm
Linda Lee:

can't imagine who burned down the guy's hamburger stand.. trying to stir stuff up. it was not happening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

It seems a bit incongruous with the general vibe
Avatar 6:24pm
Linda Lee:

you know darn well there were intelligence operatives involved .. infiltrators .. 'bad actors', as they're called now. they just couldn't win!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I wouldn't want to mess with nearly half a million people! :-)
Avatar 6:25pm
Linda Lee:

personally, i don't think we've completed our conversation about woodstock & what actually happened there. what a triumph it was for the best in us all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

It really is the best example of what people can do when they come together as one <3
Avatar 6:26pm
Linda Lee:

the bad acid was supposed to nudge us into the negative too. still couldn't happen.
Avatar 6:26pm
Linda Lee:

oh man!!! listen to this Jackie De Shannon track!!! fabulous!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm

I do genuinely love that the authorities tried EVERYTHING - and history shows a triumph for the counterculture ;-)

are they really 'The Vetjables'??

Yep :-) I *think* they were an SF group.

Avatar 6:32pm

but .. 'The Vetjables'???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I know ... I have no earthly idea what they were thinking with that one. lol
Avatar 6:34pm
Linda Lee:

vet.. jables. ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Oh! Apparently the lady singer for The Vetjables was also their drummer :-)
Avatar 6:34pm
Mr Fab:

Was surprised to read in a book about "Punk" magazine that they suspect the FBI's 'cointelpro' program was messing with them, e.g. Stuff kept getting sent back for "insufficient postage" no matter how much they put on. All these weird things that after a while seemed more than coincidental. So perhaps that crap went on even to the punk era.
Avatar 6:35pm
Linda Lee:

that was a beautiful track by The Left Banke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm

I'm an idiot ... I can't spell!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm

She's glorious, she really is <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

MORE James Last, I hear you cry? Why of course ;-)
Avatar 6:46pm
Linda Lee:

there was definitely a nice rapport. :-)
realize, too, that it was absolutely nothing for people to meet once & then make love. it was almost de rigeur! i wouldn't be shocked at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:48pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I think it's refreshing that he's one of the few people who didn't treat her like a freak or an idiot, which many people seemed to do. To be fair he was always one of the better interviewers in general.
Avatar 6:49pm
Linda Lee:

my guess is, he didn't treat his guests like 'acts'. so they liked talking with him!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm

Exactly! :-)
