Avatar 12:04pm Keilidh:

hello everyone! glad you could tune in.

Long time no see Fred!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm tim from champaign:

Hi Keilidh and everyone! What did the man say before he kicked the bucket? He said "Want to see how far I can kick it?"
Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Manana:

That boyfriend application is gonna cause some sweatin'.
  12:07pm goth yearbook:

listening from California, great tunes out the gate
Avatar 12:09pm Keilidh:

@goth yearbook - wow thanks so much for tunin in dude! this first set goes out to u!!
  12:11pm goth yearbook:

totally random luck that I saw your email and when i clicked the link saw your show was live : )
  12:12pm goth yearbook:

also HELL YES to Ceremony, they are hometown heroes out here
Avatar 12:12pm Hubig Pie:

Pornograghy was a goth masterpiece.
  12:12pm c'est moi:

WOW Keili !!

I think of you often, miss your show and thought it was quite under-appreciated. Also always thought your FMU tenor was waaaay too short. Gosh yer so old now. KIDDING!!
Love YOU!!
Avatar 12:12pm Keilidh:

@cest moi - THANK U! and yes, I am ancient now. I'll be doing radio from the crypt
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Ike:

Hi Keili. Usually John Allen makes up some rubbish about Fabio to try to irritate him. Are you going to fill in on that function too? Some ideas: "Fabio is dressed as a lumberjack today!" or "Why did Fabio bring these 30 to 50 feral hogs into the studio with him today?!"
Avatar 12:13pm Keilidh:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm sphere:

that feral hog thing blows my mind. one day there's a tweet and the next it's all over the nation. and hello.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Mick:

Adia Victoria is ridiculously awesome - saw her last month in Massachusetts. Blew the room away.
Avatar 12:25pm Keilidh:

@mick - absolutely haunting!! I love her
  12:25pm ike:

The Cure plays in Pasadena California on August 31st
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Ken From Hyde Park:

There's an internet story about an octopus beastin' some woman's face recently, too.
  12:26pm bloumejune:

Yes, I saw The Cure a few years ago at MSG.
Incredible, over three hours non-stop!
I loved every moment.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm chris:

well ok, then! hi there, Keilidh and folks. digging this Ecstatic Vision something fierce right now. ecstaticvision.bandcamp.com
Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Manana:

This Ecstatic Vision sounds great.
  12:37pm Rory:

Meep moop....Hell-O Keilidh and heads!
Avatar 12:37pm Keilidh:

@Ken - not so beastin for her!

glad yr all enjoying the tunes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm tim from champaign:

@Ken From Hyde Park - that happened a few miles from my house! I had no idea it went viral. That woman runs fishing charters. I don't think I'd want to be on the open water with someone who makes such good decisions.
  12:41pm Rory:

Great band name! TEENAGE CAVEGIRL
  12:42pm phillippe bastille:

hi Keilidh, good to hear you again! hi everyone!
Avatar 12:45pm fred:

The Cure are playing in Paris a couple of weeks from now. I'm not going: €70 for a crowded festival with questionable sound and overpriced drinks is way too steep (even though Let's Eat Grandma is on the same day). I passed on shelling out €130 to see Cynthia Loemij this year, so I guess I'm getting cheap in old age. Gotta save for the fall fundraiser too
Avatar 12:45pm Keilidh:

Hi phillippe! thanks for tunin in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Carmichael:

Heya Keilidh. Ready for some mornin' beasting!
Avatar 12:51pm Hubig Pie:

Teenage Caveman was a Beat Happening song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm tim from champaign:

@Keilidh - terminal 5? Do tell why it's your least favorite!
  12:53pm Rory:

Did you say new Vivian Girls!!!! I’M ALL IN!
Avatar 12:53pm northguineahills:

@fred: I thought I saw the Cure past their prime late in '96 in an arena, they killed it!
  12:54pm Rory:

Their debut was also one of my favorites too! Such a good band!
Avatar 12:56pm fred:

@ngh: Any news on the job front? I've been mostly away from the playlists recently

I have become obsessed with Purple Mountains & purchased all I could find on iTunes. Thank you WFMU - I never would have heard this great music without you! ❤️
  1:08pm Victoria Principal's Buns:

who died?
  1:08pm oks:

so incredibly sad
  1:13pm yes:

His humor through his depression made me so happy. Incredibly bummed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm tim from champaign:

@Victoria - David Berman of Silver Jews/Purple Mountains.
Avatar 1:19pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 1:19pm fred:

Weirdly maybe, Toni Morrison's death hits closer to me, but David Berman's is more sad.

Holy crap I missed Nina Hagen.
Must now punch self with absurd levels of force..... INNAFACE!
  1:21pm prudy:

really enjoyed Hether Fortune...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Ike:

Is there another Ike here? Hello other Ike! I've always wanted a spooky doppelgänger.
  1:25pm dinatekno:

Holy crap, Purple Mountains was David Berman!?! Nooooooo, how sad! Wow.
Avatar 1:27pm fred:

@Ike: I dunno, I suggested a plan to distract Matt from playing "that" garbage the other day, and someone called me Ike. Your name may have become a cause by now. It's a worthy one
  1:29pm Rory:

You wanna dose of gothic acid?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm sphere:

i've always had a weird relationship with Goth. i dig early pioneers like Bauhaus and Joy Division, but the rest of it seems opaque to me, like 80s Eurodisco.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm spooky doppelgänger:

  1:33pm Rory:

My problem with some goths is they always complain about their shitty parents!
Avatar 1:35pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

what Sphere said. Always thought Bauhaus/Virgin Prunes/etc sounded like they were having WAY too much fun to be truly miserable.
Avatar 1:35pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

speaking of miserable...!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm tim from champaign:

Some bands that are identified as goth do not register as goth to me. For instance Joy Divisiion, Birthday Party/Nick Cave, Bauhaus, Siouxaie and the Banshees. If they're goth than so is Screamin Jay Hawkins.
  1:38pm wfmu_listener_phillip:

Kay-Lee has been doing a lot of fill-ins. i bet you she'll be on the next schedule! which will be SOOO KOOOL:)
Avatar 1:38pm Keilidh:

i could argue that screamin jay hawkins is goth! I think that it should be more about the attitude rather than the fashion/subculture aspect... in my opinion, despite history
  1:39pm Rory:

That’s cuz most goths are posers. I learned this the hard way a long time ago.
Avatar 1:40pm Keilidh:

@rory - yr hurting my feelings, and i have a lot of feelings
Avatar 1:40pm βrian:

"It's screaming Jay Hawkins, and he's a wild man, so bug off."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm chris:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm tim from champaign:

I'm fleible. I'll take Screamin Jay as goth then.
Avatar 1:42pm fred:

I saw Russian Circles once, years ago (opening for Boris) and I found them boring. Maybe I should give them another chance, though they're probably too famous and expensive by now
  1:42pm wfmu_listener_phillip:

Somebody say GOTH? well there is one band that epitomizes GOTH. "DEAD CAN DANCE"
  1:43pm Rory:

Keilidh, Seriously don’t mind me I’m part asshole, bastard and nice guy.
Avatar 1:44pm Keilidh:

@fred - I felt the same way at first, but I enjoyed this album! I don't usually have the attention span for any instrumental records, but this one was good to me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm sphere:

@ Keildh - what do you think of Keiji Haino?
Avatar 1:46pm Keilidh:

@sphere - this is a sin, but I haven't really sat down and listened to Keiji Haino. By default, I'm guessing I'm a fan!
  1:46pm βrian:

Shake your umlaut!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm sphere:

@ Keildh - hell, there's so much music and so little time! <shrug>
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm crateslinger:

I remember Goths as the smart kids who didn't get into as much trouble as us punx. They were usually in college, and we called them something else.
  1:48pm Fashion Tashjian:

Howdy friends, Keili, wackos and scary people. Love from Yerevan. Love for blast beats.
  1:50pm Fashion Tashjian:

Is this a female vokill?
Avatar 1:51pm fred:

I had a great disaster of an encounter with Keiji Haino once: a friend was acting as his regular translator and she introduced me to him. I was immediately obvious that the main thing we had in common was a total lack of interest in that interaction. I was too routinely shy and hostile to even get uncomfortable meeting a musical hero
  1:51pm Rory:

@crateslinger, hit the nail right on the head! I was almost goth I think? But I could relate way more with Iggy Pop and Rocky Erickson and The Ramones than anything else when I was younger.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm scary doppelganger:

refreshing selections
  1:52pm Fashion Tashjian:

@fred hey man, I feel the same way about RC. Like, it just feels kinda mediocre compared to other bands going for the same vibe. Not bad, just lackluster.
Avatar 1:52pm Keilidh:

@rory - i feel you on that one!
Avatar 1:53pm Hubig Pie:

That song wore out the battery of my speaker
Avatar 1:57pm fred:

@Fashion Tashjian: That track sounded better though. How are you doing? Was the MRI negative? (which I guess is a good thing). I hope you guys dodged the heat wave that have been plaguing us these past weeks
  2:02pm Fashion Tashjian:

@fred, it was for my spine, actually. So, unfortunately it was positive that I'm even worse of than I was years ago, but anyway, climate change is going in the opposite direction for the South Caucasus this year. My wife and I planned a vacation to Lake Stevan starting this weekend, and it's about 7 Celsius cooler this August than it is every year. We're getting close to closing the windows at night now, and this is August!!! It should still be brutally hot, as brutal as that Immortal Bird track was.)))
  2:03pm Fashion Tashjian:

Ah, I posted that before I could say THANKS FOR THE KALI MALONE!
Avatar 2:08pm Keilidh:

  2:09pm goth yearbook:

never heard this before, feeling this vibe train this song is taking me on
Avatar 2:14pm Keilidh:

@gothyearbook - it's one of my favorite albums of the year! I love modern classical
Avatar 2:16pm fred:

@Keilidh: It might not be what you call modern classical, but do you know Yarn/Wire?

@fred - no I do not! but I'll check it out

They're an ensemble of two pianists and two percussionists, who often play pieces by emerging composers (read: totally unknown students). I think they have some kind of partnership with Columbia U

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm tim from champaign:

Play Pharmakon!!!
Avatar 2:42pm Keilidh:

just for you, Tim, I'm airing it earlier in the set than planned! it's gotta happen!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm steveo:

really enjoying the show; was curious about Bobo & found this quote which i found interesting

"This song, like the majority of songs we did, came out of a jam. Mario C. always kept the DAT tape rolling so we had reference to what we were playing. There was a song by Miles Davis called 'Miles on the Corner' and it was also sort of a jam piece. I think Ad-Rock came up with the title. I basically just starting doing a percussion solo over the beat. The original jam was about 7-8 minutes long and Mario C. edited it to what is now on the Ill Communication record. I didn't know that it would be included on the album, but I think it's cool that there is a song named after me on a Beastie Boys record." - Eric Bobo, March 2003

Thanks Keilidh!

Avatar 2:45pm fred:

When I finally got to see Pharmakon, my ability to be invisible came handy as she went through the audience, ignored me, and threaded her mic cord around two nearby friends
  2:50pm Polyus:

Just found out last night Pharmakon is coming to my town in October. I’m real weird about strangers touching me though.
  2:51pm Rory:

@fred, I wish I had that ability.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm tim from champaign:

This is very cool. I like the bummer drone going on underneath.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:51pm sphere:

Pharmakon is awesome.
Avatar 2:51pm Keilidh:

I am not a fan of audience participation in most cases! But I do like to see a show that rattles the room
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm chris:

oh wow yes. love the juxtaposition of the vocals and electro noise between the Yorke and the Pharmakon tracks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm chris:

such a great show, Keilidh. cheers!
Avatar 2:53pm Keilidh:

Thanks everyone! Keep beastin and enjoy your weekend!
Avatar 2:54pm fred:

@Polyus: that's why I'm now very aware of where Mattin is when he's performing
  2:54pm Fashion Tashjian:

Pharmakon is ok, but so dedicated to the work and the exact motif that I love it. Dedication trumps ingenuity sometimes. You don't need to be ingenious to rock harder than the next act.
Avatar 2:55pm fred:

Now I want to see her again (especially now that I know I'll have good looking guys around as foils)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm tim from champaign:

Thanks for the fun show, Keilidh!
  2:57pm Rory:

Dedication usually leads to very energetic, passionate performances from the artist. Leading to a better live experience overall.
  2:57pm Rory:

And thx for the great show, Keilidh!
