Have you bought these paintings at the Stormville flea market, or are these just photos you've taken of particularly good ones?
Avatar 3:02pm Listening Out There:

I approve of the show so far...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Webhamster Henry:

It's a kind of JAZZ ON A SUMMER'S DAY kind of day today.
Avatar 3:03pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I used to like Ladybug Umbrella & Melancholy Robot in the Rain until everybody else did...
  3:03pm Laura L:

year unknown and immaterial--that's an image for all time.
Avatar 3:04pm mb:

I also give my seal of approval... so far.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm Phillippe Bastille:

What's up, Mr Irwin and friends?
Avatar 3:04pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...still it's a cute dress...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm rrg:

Right, "so far", but we should keep listening to make sure.
Avatar 3:05pm Irwin:

rrg: with rare exceptions, unbought, snapped, adjusted in PS.
Avatar 3:05pm mb:

"Everybody shut up. I want to hear this bass solo."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm rrg:

Stormville is about a two-hour drive from where I am...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm thatpatsmith:

wow Advance Base
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Passaic River Blues:

I thought that Advance Base was very reminiscent of Casiotone for the Painfully Alone and, there you go, the Google tells me it's the same guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Ike:

Hey Irwin, the Contrarians' Conference is coming up! 9:00, check-in. 9:05, everybody storms out angrily declaring this is all bullshit.
Avatar 3:18pm Irwin:

iKe, I got tix months ago! I'm so THERE. And then so OUT OF THERE.
  3:20pm Mike tp:

Kalahari got a good feel..!!!
Avatar 3:22pm Davee:

My old pal Irwin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm G:

Hey Ike, you missed your Don Felder bashing moment yesterday at 11am. Out of material? haha
Avatar 3:22pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

What a delightful little construction this Set be. Yerknow??
Avatar 3:23pm Davee:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm G:

I'm gonna guess Heather is not elderly. I didn't know of any Heathers in the 70s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm rrg:

Joey Heatherton is 74.
Avatar 3:25pm Itzall ClearD'me Nåu:

re; the weekly art: I was really hoping that Irwin had a gallery of these collected works of genius at home or somewhere, then it hit me; they are all on permanent exhibit in the archives.
Avatar 3:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Joey could rawk that mini...
Avatar 3:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I got it - one of the sexbots from Music of Mind Control yesterday strolling & considering life choices...
Avatar 3:29pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Geezer Butler's B-Day...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Ike:

@G, out of material, ME?!? NEVER. I was just busy at work. I don't *always* do it at exactly 11 anyway. Felder-bashing is eternal and timeless. It is not tied to any time.
  3:32pm Tennessee Jeb:

Lee suhl
Avatar 3:33pm Irwin:

Jeb: Certain?
  3:35pm MrTum:

Preservation Hall jazz band was sublime.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Ike:

Please clap!

Oh no sorry, never mind, that's Florida Jeb.
Avatar 3:43pm Irwin:

Not Dave King's best drum solo.
Avatar 3:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Cream ftw.
  3:49pm Skagbaron:

Yes. On the way to Crete.
  3:50pm Skagbaron:

Jack and Pete at their best. And the cello.
Avatar 3:51pm mb:

This version is so tame to the one on Live Cream. And the cello, yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Ginger Baker, too!
Avatar 3:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'A nifty little band.' - Zappa
Avatar 3:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I still wanna be in Cream. So unkewl...
Avatar 3:55pm mb:

This sounds like a very expensive guitar solo
Avatar 3:56pm Fredericks:

What would you do in Cream, Rev?
Avatar 3:57pm Fredericks:

Due to all the pedals, mb?
Avatar 3:59pm mb:

Yes Fredericks. Everything sounded expensive. Guitar, amp, pedals, studio time, coffee.
Avatar 3:59pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@F : Cop that period Clapton shabbily...
Avatar 4:02pm Fredericks:

mb: quite a set of ears you have.
Rev: after a few months of touring probably not too shabby. Ginger would straighten you out.
Avatar 4:03pm WmKMoss:

Creamy Clampton Chowder, you're gonna love it.
  4:03pm Laura L:

Great Don's dad story, thanks for that, Irwin.
Avatar 4:06pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@F: Well - something scared Clapton out of playing like that anymore...
  4:06pm Tennessee Jeb:

Can confirm. Signed to my favorite record label, Luminelle. Lots of great artists on there. Great show btw!
Avatar 4:06pm Irwin:

OK, got it. Next time, the right way.
  4:07pm jan:

Don was great. And the other Brockway brother, Dick had one of the first Sony miniature TV sets which he brought to Cold Spring Harbor High School along with some tiny AM radios.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm David (in London):

Today's Eric Clampton trivia - he was taught his first few chords by Dave Brock from Hawkwind.
Avatar 4:08pm Irwin:

Jan, did you know Don??!!!??
Avatar 4:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@David (iL) : Righteous !
  4:09pm Beetlemuse:

This guy ALMOST.... sounds like joe jackson
Avatar 4:10pm Irwin:

... said no one ever -- until now!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm rrg:

Like the character played by Charmian Carr in "The Sound of Music", right? She was Liesl, pronounced "Lee-zuhl".

But, Jeb this Lisel is "Lee-suhl", right? So, not the same.
  4:11pm Beetlemuse:

Avatar 4:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

  4:16pm andy the painter:

let’s get incorrect like we did last summer!
Avatar 4:17pm Irwin:

May: Nope, not yet. But I'm pushing it.
  4:17pm Dave Miss:

Irwin, you should check out the band Breastfist. Album Ticklly Shimmers from a few years ago. I think you’d dig it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm chris:

walking on the moon seems to be an analogy for enjoying the effects of jazz cigarettes, me thinks
  4:18pm Sting:

@chris - I don't know what you're talking about.
Avatar 4:21pm Irwin:

Dave - will do. Recommendations always welcome.
Avatar 4:22pm TDK60:

Hello Stereo listeners. I need a jazz hookah..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm chris:

Sting, haha! touché.
Avatar 4:24pm Itzall ClearD'me Nåu:

I assume this song is only on the expanded release and NOT on the "regular" version of Emperor Tomato? It's clangy, I like it!
Avatar 4:26pm Irwin:

Whole buncha new St'lab EXPANDED editions coming soon.
  4:27pm jan:

@irwin: I knew Don, but Dick was my classmate. Circa mid 80s Don came to visit and spent an afternoon video taping me driving my Land Rover off road in the Meadowlands of Secaucus for his photography TV program. As far as I know the tapes stayed in the can. He was a very stimulating presence.
Avatar 4:30pm Itzall ClearD'me Nåu:

Avatar 4:30pm mb:

Sharon Jones did it better. Sorry Janet
Avatar 4:36pm Fredericks:

Speaking to my heart with this Pharoah, Irwin. Great stuff.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Passaic River Blues:

This Sanders deserves double-plus clicky-stars.
Avatar 4:40pm Irwin:

There's nothing I can follow it with. Nothing.
Avatar 4:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Was it Sanders Trane turned to when kicking smack & drink?
Avatar 4:42pm Irwin:

ok, found something that might work. Delicate transition.
Avatar 4:44pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Or Rollins? Surprising hard to websearch... Anyhow - that fraternity...
Avatar 4:45pm TDK60:

That segue was so hep, I didn't even notice.

Great vintage pic of Max in the Times Biz section today.
  4:48pm Mike tp:

I would have loved to have seen Max n for that matter art Blakey live...those two I missed but so many others I seen.sometimes it pays to be a bit old n live in the shadow of NYC
Avatar 4:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...can even hear the Bass...
  4:51pm Mike tp:

Max having s little talk with himself.he was so great at that....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm rrg:

See, one of the great things about this program is that we can hear songs by artists (like The Lemon Pipers) that the rest of the radio world reduces to a single song.
Avatar 5:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Damn straight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm chris:

came for the tunes, stayed for the snark
  5:12pm annoyed:

Avatar 5:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I'ma clicky a Toby Keith.
You done it Irwin.
Avatar 5:16pm Andy M.:

Is this the first time Toby Keith has been played on 'FMU?
Avatar 5:16pm Irwin:

No bad versions of this song.
Avatar 5:16pm Itzall ClearD'me Nåu:

Toby Keith/3 Dong Night cover: not... bad, exactly- but would you want to hear it EVERY FREAKING WEEK?!? For YEARS?
I think you all know what I'm talking about. Ike knows, I know he do.
Avatar 5:16pm Irwin:

Andy: Not my first!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm rrg:

Not the first by a long shot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Michael 98145:

Avatar 5:17pm MayJillar:

Seriously, where else are you going to hear Toby Keith on the radio!
  5:17pm annoyed:

thanks for the TK, Irwin!
Avatar 5:18pm Irwin:

Aw, shucks ...
Avatar 5:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yeah but point of these last few comments is we are free of repetitive anything here...'cept the Felder 'course...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Kat in Chicago:

snickering over "3 Dong Night" but that was a very nice version of Shambala
  5:19pm Laura L:

I don't actually know who Toby Keith is, but that's just me.
Avatar 5:20pm Irwin:

Contemporary country is just expensive rock'n'roll.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm rrg:

With a southern drawl.
Avatar 5:22pm Itzall ClearD'me Nåu:

rrg, I beg to differ. It's not even that, it's "hollywood hick" and 100% phony. With FEW exceptions, and none that you will hear on "normal" radio, i.e., besides WFMU or the rare college station that "gets it".
Avatar 5:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Uh-huh. Loves all kinds of 'Country'
...don't much care for Commercial Radio...
Avatar 5:23pm Fredericks:

I thought Toby and Keith did a nice job up until the first chorus. I lost interest after that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm coelacanth∅:

i'm glad i was out of the room for toby keith covering 3 dog night. i don't want any temptation to not thoroughly despise him.
Avatar 5:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yeah - it was a little 'by numbers'...a cover after all.
@Linda L: Toby was the Dixie Chicks' political adversary in the Kuntry Establishment - put it that way...
  5:25pm annoyed:

some great songs in that set Irwin, which im downloading now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm rrg:

I do hope that our opinions of artists here are not determined solely by their politics.

Avatar 5:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Amazing sessions.
  5:32pm annoyed:

Toby Keith on triangle wouldve added something
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Michael 98145:

this person plays us some fine music. yes.
Avatar 5:33pm Listening Out There:

Huh. The session must have overlapped with that for "Filles De Kilimanjaro," since that's where I've always heard the tune. Always liked "Filles"...
Avatar 5:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

For one thing - made me realize that 'Bitches Brew' was not so abrupt a transition...
Avatar 5:34pm Itzall ClearD'me Nåu:

Thank you, Irwin for another fine program. (I am) working/listening/cluttering up this board, certainly have enjoyed the music today.
Avatar 5:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& probly one of the origins of Ambient ; Zawinul on other trax...
Avatar 5:35pm Listening Out There:

Wikipedia: The song "Mademoiselle Mabry (Miss Mabry)", while credited to Davis, is actually Gil Evans' reworking of "The Wind Cries Mary" by Jimi Hendrix (Davis and Evans had met with Hendrix several times to exchange ideas)
Avatar 5:36pm Listening Out There:

...should been called "The Wind Cries Mabry"...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm chris:

my opinions of artists are necessarily formed by their politics and actions, if known to me. doesn't mean i can't like some of their output.
Avatar 5:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& Hendrix & Betty Davis met several times - but that's another story...
  5:37pm annoyed:

u mean they were shaggin?
Avatar 5:40pm Irwin:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Phillippe Bastille:

Good show Irwin. I'm outta here, 'til next week.
