Nihilist Spasm Band! I got to see them 4 times and even got to chat a little with Art Pratten and Bill Exley

good hearing you today Fabio!
if there's any better sound to match this calm-before-the-storm weather, i forget.

(that's the haxan cloak track. this tension is like a heavy thunderhead!)

The Haxan Cloak? Something tells me Fabio just saw Midsommar.

Afternoon! Was just logging on to post what Polyus said-- loved that movie.

that is very nice music.

Recognized the Haxan Cloak rightaway. Mind still blown from seeing Midsommar on Sunday.

A light-hearted comedy, right?

sounds like a film to see!

I have to see Midsommar. Did anyone see Us? What'd you think?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:21pm

@Brian Honestly, funnier than I expected. "Light-hearted," on the other hand...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:21pm
chresti:

Hello, sounds good!
  3:21pm
Kristina:

@Brian it is impossible to recommend that film to anyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm
Polyus:

I didn't really like it, and yet I would still recommend it. I think you just have to see it for yourself. And I did wonder if maybe I was supposed to laugh out loud as much as I did.
Avatar 3:23pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ah geez...listening to podcast about vintage Horror all the time - yet don't know if I want anything to actually freak me out - tho' everybody is sayin' it has mad style..?..

@Polyus - without seeing the movie, I can say it's OK to laugh out loud.

I once sent "I have nothing to say" to someone at work who has to translate the director's prose about contemporary music into English. She said it was a good but too honest translation
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:26pm
The Oscar:

I was lucky enough to be among the critics invited to the world premiere last month, and the director confirmed that the big laughs were intentional (the singing!)
Avatar 3:26pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Oh right. About Pagans...
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 3:28pm
The Oscar:

If nothing else, it's pretty astounding that there's a movie in multiplexes right now that cites The Color of Pomegranates as an influence: www.indiewire.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm
Polyus:

I will say that if you are interested in seeing it, go to a big theater. The sound editing and visuals are outstanding. It's probably going to suck as a streaming film.
Avatar 🎸 3:29pm
Rev. Turnip Druid:

Thanks to weaning off MOST social media + not being a TV watcher, I end up totally ignorant of New Groovy Things. Wasn't aware of this movie. Looks like a WickerMan premise?

Secondly: there should be an email newsletter for semi-ignorant creeps like me to stay aware of New Groovy Things.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm
fred:

@Michael 98145: Did it stop at the intro as most do or did in go into the music as well? And did someone play a cooking pot?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm

it was a gorgeous and disturbing film, i was shook for days! And caught a nod to Haneke in it too. Deep asf would see again.

Loved Hereditary too (though, even more than Midsommar, I wouldn't recommend going in without knowing what you're in for). The attention to detail in that movie is astounding, and Toni Collette is unreal in it.

@fred: i also played dozens (hundreds? Geez, probably) of Monday nights with them back in London, ON., and rocerded their No Borders record and all of the No Music Festival CDs. i remember particular WFMU DJ folks occasionally dropping by our Monday nights up in London.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm

@Timothy: on one of these tours, I told Art Pratten thay Bill Exley looked like an uncle of mine: same beard, same style of clothes. That uncle is a retired Latin/French teacher, a fact that amused him enough he went to fetch Bill from backstage to meet me (is there an international uniform for these fields?)
  4:36pm

Carmichael that picture of Ken reminds me of my childhood, when every few years the area would flood -on some streets up to 3-4'.
my friends and i rode our stingray bicycles through it to as deep as physically possible, and riding up to our waists once we came upon a whirlpool in the street. pretty big. and wondered how many kids and other animals had been sucked down the open manhole.
