I see what you did there, Irwin.

Avatar 3:04pm Listening Out There:

This is the place...
  3:04pm BH:

lots of weather going on today (flooding in New Orleans, power went out for me in the midwest).. so this seems like a good day for jazz songs that the Weather Channel should play during the Local at the 8s.
Avatar 3:06pm Listening Out There:

Funny. Where I'm at, we have weather too...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm DroneTree:

Thought this was Patti Smith for a minute
Avatar 3:09pm Irwin:

Drone: So did I when I first heard it last week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Crudbringer:

Irwin, sorry if this has been asked-and-answered - but what's that bed music you've been using lately? The twisty bass thing with the ride cymbal that comes in? I bang my head like it's Judas Priest whenever it starts...
Avatar 3:12pm Irwin:

"Snake Eyes" by Chip Wickham (Ishmael Ensemble Remix)
  3:13pm jess:

thank you for that PJ Harvey. love that song

No one ever called Pablo Picasso an asshole
Avatar 3:17pm Itzall ClearD'me Nåu:

Hi Irwin and all of your pals! I will try to be anything other than an a##hole.
  3:20pm Noel:

Pablo Picasso was never called an asshole.
  3:20pm Listener Robert:

Very pretty! Woud like to subscribe to Cortes's...uh...visual thingy.
  3:21pm berbo:

Picasso never participated in an youtube comments thread.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Michael 98145:

This fellow knows good jazz ...
Avatar 3:29pm Hoboken Jack:

Hello all. Show thus far has provided a fine soundtrack for returning from the Auto Body shop, where I was attending to the Sisyphian task of keeping my bumpers seemingly unbumped.
Avatar 3:31pm Hoboken Jack:

PS Catenary Wires will be making a rare US appearance at Coney Island Baby in NYC on Aug 16.
Avatar 3:32pm Irwin:

In Hoboken, "Sisyphean" is an apt word for that task. I gave up my Bumper Bully when Ruth of the Booth scoffed at it.
Avatar 3:36pm Irwin:

Anyone know if that Snail Mail track is a cover of a Courtney Love tune of the same name?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Passaic River Blues:

@Irwin: I believe it is.
Avatar 3:40pm Irwin:

We cannot proceed on mere speculation. We need conclusive PROOF.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Phillippe Bastille:

It is, but its by the band Courtney Love, not the singer. pitchfork.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Passaic River Blues:

Matador's site states: "The seven song disc features the six original 2016 tracks as well as 'The 2nd Most Beautiful Girl In The World,' penned by K Records Band Courtney Love and recorded by Snail Mail in 2018, available on record for the first time."
Avatar 3:45pm Irwin:

Proof. Conclusive!
  3:46pm BH:

who has more search engine optimization problems, the band Courtney Love or the British band Nirvana?
  3:49pm flashbazbo:

Everybody’s right when nobody’s wrong.

This Chris Staples: Love
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Carmichael:

Avatar 3:57pm Itzall ClearD'me Nåu:

I've always thought this was one of the saddest songs they ever wrote ("La Demeure").
Avatar 4:03pm Irwin:

Monk tune.
Avatar 4:12pm Irwin:

Hold Steady get very little love at WFMU. Decent band, lots of good songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Little Danny:

My ears instantly perked up with this Liz Cooper. New name to me. Lovely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Phillippe Bastille:

I can't keep The Hold Steady and Gaslight Anthem straight in my little pea-sized brain

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Phillippe Bastille:

Can't recall ever hearing an Alvvays song I didn't like.
Avatar 4:26pm Irwin:

This is one I can't get outta my frickin' head.
  4:27pm yngdave666:

Great voice she has and nice harmonies
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Little Danny:

I was just looking for word of a new Alvvays record
  4:29pm yngdave666:

Carry that weight was good but misses Ringo’s voice in it
  4:30pm Brendan:

Let me get this right. Himesh pays Paul and Ringo and they pay Michael Jackson’s estate?
  4:31pm yngdave666:

I thought Paul bought back the Beatles song from the Jackson’s ?
Avatar 4:32pm Irwin:

Jacko's ownership of the Beatles publishing ended years (maybe decades) ago.
  4:33pm yngdave666:

Paul has the rights now
Avatar 4:33pm Irwin:

I think Jacko sold the publishing to pay off the families of his ... ahem ... playmates.
  4:33pm yngdave666:

  4:34pm ?:

I am enjoying this playlist very much! Thanks Irwin
Avatar 4:34pm Irwin:

I don't think MPL (Paul) owns the Beatles catalog.
  4:35pm yngdave666:

Avatar 4:36pm Irwin:

SonyATV (ASCAP) owns the Beatles publishing.
  4:37pm yngdave666:

Paul’s richer than God, he should of bought them!!
  4:37pm Brendan:

Oh well it was a cool stereotype reversal while it lasted. A black artist cashing in on rich white guys.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm rrg:

Paul has filed suit to regain the publishing rights and is slowly getting them back.

  4:38pm yngdave666:

I hope he wins
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Phillippe Bastille:

Speaking of Doctor Doctor -- does anyone else remember the Doctor Doctor tv show with Matt Frewer? Damn good show

Robbing (insert name) to pay Paul.

I can't stand this/I love this Russkaja
  4:48pm Laura L:

But RRG, how old will Sir Paul be in 2026?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Michael 98145:

That Daft Punk cover blew my socks out!
Avatar 4:51pm Fredericks:

  4:56pm Laura L:

Thanks for that link, RRG, I didn't know about that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Phillippe Bastille:

Bought tickets to an event on the venue's website. They linked out to Ticketfly, who charged me $8.75 per ticket service fee. I bought the damn tickets from the venue! I think the band will be lucky to see $8.75 out of the ticket price...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Mark Hurst:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm rrg:

I can see in my mind's eye exactly what's going on in the movie as this music plays.
  5:07pm Listener Robert:

I remembered Matt Frewer playing a doctor on TV, couldn't remember the name of the show, thanks, Mr. Bastille.
  5:08pm Brian in New Orleans:

Great show...the several feet of floodwater has receeded from my block so now I can go out and get ready for the tropical storm! I should have never left Brooklyn !!!

@Mark thanks!! Special place but it is a bit overwhelming...often!
Avatar 5:18pm Fredericks:

Then you stopped growing up in New Orleans, Mark?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Brian in New Orleans:

The flooding was so bad the cockroaches were escaping by climbing up our porch columns...eww
Avatar 5:20pm Fredericks:

What about the rats, Brian?
Avatar 5:20pm Irwin:

NOLA's got some GIANT roaches.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Brian in New Orleans:

@Irwin they are huge. One time I was sleeping and a flying one was licking the drill off my open mouth
  5:24pm Laura L:

And NOLA has the nutria, with orange teeth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Brian in New Orleans:

@Fredericks...surprising that there is not really a rat problem here...There are way too many feral cats
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Brian in New Orleans:

Termites, Nutria, Cockroaches,Geckos,Possum, Humidity, flooding , coastal erosion, crime, corruption, city below sea level....but..but Mardi Grad !!! Lol

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm coelacanth∅:

yeah i don't know. i guess having giant insects licking my mouth as i sleep is just not my thing.
Avatar 5:33pm Fredericks:

Stay safe, Brian.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Brian in New Orleans:

@carmichae it is actually a pretty great and weird place great food, record shops, people, and Mardi Gras is still amazing. To say nothing of second lines for the dead...David Bartholomew, Leah Chase, Doctor John...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Brian in New Orleans:

@coelacanth...agreed ..I had a dream a cockroach entered my mouth while sleeping and when I closed my mouth my head took the fully articulated form of a living cockroach...
Avatar 5:37pm Fredericks:

Technically, I only saw the back half of the giant rat.
The street bands are amazing. Food's real good.

Avatar 5:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Wull it's the cradle of Jazz if not all African-American Music - if / to extent a single locale could be. ...You think that's gonna happen @...Lincoln Center or something? It was whorehouses much as anywhere...
Thing gets me about N'Orleans - & I never been - is they say there's just Music in the air & everywhere more than any other place - in the U.S. @ least... That certainly intrigues me ...Another thing I think of is a guy in my neighborhood here went down after Katrina to help - & was a putting a door on a house & heard gunshots - so - door probly a real good idea...
Avatar 5:38pm Fredericks:

Brian in New Orleans: That sounds like something from a Burroughs novel.

@revolution ..the good old days of "gunshots or fireworks" are mostly over due to gentrification ..Sadly the big news here this week is a new white couple On Frenchman Street called NOPD on a brass band that has been there for years..18 cops came arrested and there members to the ground ...this shot happens a lot now

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Brian in New Orleans:

We love it here...warts and all..No need for any "Keep New Orleans Weird" bumper stickers for years to come no doubt.
Avatar 5:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Mmmm. Always hear that N'Orleans was more like the Caribbean than the USA - & that's why - there... The blend of Slaves making ProtoBlues - in fact Vodoun & plenty of it - & educated European Musicians happened - & various shades between. There was the 'paper bag' standard: you put your hand in the bag - & if you were lighter - you got in the dance or whatever... 'Creoles' & 'high yellows'... Then laws shifted big time & shades that shunned darker ones got thrown together & blended their Musics again... So - the Army Engineer Corp. builds & 'maintains' these damns... & it goes on... it's plain as day what their intention is for & what value they hold for our beloved Cradle of U.S.American Music & Culture...
