When you're gonna play the cover "Sophisticated Boom Boom" by The Goodies (or Shangri-Las) from 1965 next week, you can play the occasional man as well: the original or inspirational "Come on in" by Morton George (=George 'Shadow' Morton) from 1962

Wearing ear plugs is an interesting subject - I can't think of another field where the audience usually skips precautions that the performers usually have to use to continue performing. I know I've fallen prey to the 'purity of experience' thing there.

  4:10pm Matt:

I had a record nerd tell me once the machines that press vinyl take a long time to heat up, So larger pressings, like major label runs, the first 500 or so would sound bad, but the rest would be great. So smaller pressings now, you're basically getting that first 500 bad pressing sound.

funny how lots of people have a distinct memory about that MBV record. i don't have one but i do remember hearing it for the first time and thinking "this is DIFFERENT". i saw them in austin several years ago and the venue provided earplugs to the crowd
  4:24pm BH:

My experience looking around TuneIn for stations out of my market would indicate that there is a lot of 'the same' out there, but also obviously there's a gap that doesn't get covered by anything else in areas that are on the fringes of a media market (especially geographically large markets). So, somebody has to cover when there's an event at a local library or a HS sports score in a city that only gets mentioned on TV during severe weather and doesn't have a daily paper.

That’s a multi album duo
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2020 Swag For Life Member 5:15pm tneeld:

Umm - Ashford and Simpson? (Or are we talking current?)
  5:16pm Daybreak and the...Final Countdown!:

As was just posted, Tegan and Sara is a good duo call too

Thinking of current duos and how there doesn't seem to be many out there right now.

  5:20pm P-90:

Duos don’t seem to be “in” these days, do they...?
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2020 Swag For Life Member 5:20pm tneeld:

Jean Grae and Quelle Chris work together frequently? But this is a tough one.
Avatar 5:21pm djsheilab:

tneeld—YES! You got it! They did an album together recently, didn't they?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Rob Kopp:

On his album Intoxicated women (2017), Mick Harvey is doing a couple of duets with women (all Serge Gainsbourg songs)
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2020 Swag For Life Member 5:22pm tneeld:

@djsheilab - Yes - I quite liked it too. Also featured a lot of Featuring's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Rob Kopp:

Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile
Avatar 5:24pm djsheilab:

Rob Kopp—Right! Good one! Glad duos are still hangin' in there.

A cover request for next week:
"Sunny" by Boney M. from Take the Heat Off Me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Michael 98145:

Sin Mantequilla? is this cuisine advice?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27pm Rob Kopp:

not brand new, but I liked all the cover-albums by Susanna Hoffs & Matthew Sweet, especially the 60's and 70's ones
Avatar 5:27pm djsheilab:

Thanks Frederik!
  5:27pm Frank Zaatar:

Jenny (Lewis) and Johnny (Rice). Only one album but they were a real duo.
  5:28pm Dave Miss:

What? ALWAYS with butter!
  5:31pm BH:

there's probably a few two-person bands out there that never get called duos because maybe that label isn't in style right now? at the risk of making you ponder the question of "Were the White Stripes technically a duo because Meg occasionally got to sing?"
Avatar S.B. Boomer: Marathon 2020 Swag For Life Member 5:32pm tneeld:

@BH - Low would probably fit into that, and they're still pretty active.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm tim from champaign:

Sure way to get a DJ to play your request...wait until the DJ is ready to cue the next record, interrupt them and set your drink by the decks or records while you talk. Works every time.

I wonder if anyone was inspired by the comments board discussion about this Georgia Anne cover artwork and decided to write a novel based on it.
