Listening live this morning. Decided to forgo yoga for surface noice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am Phillippe Bastille:

I wonder how many people in history have ever been hurt by running with scissors. Not a lot, I'm betting.
9:25am Dave in St Albans UK:

The Stereolab vibe today is excellent. I am going to Stereolab's gig in London on Wednesday. Can't wait! Great show today btw Joe.

I'm still buzzing from Friday's Sachiko Kanenobu show, which Joe both catalyzed and introduced. There was something magic in that room.
  9:28am emily:

I like the soundbath quality of today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Phillippe Bastille: howdy! Oh, i'll never forget the Mad Scissors Stampede of ought-seven!

Avatar 9:31am Joe McG:

@Booz: Thanks, Booz! @ami: Thanks, ami! By the way, I have your knife, so I'll try to find you after the show. (It fell out in Sheila's car, I think!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am Phillippe Bastille:

@Granny I keep forgetting about that! Weren't there a bunch of bulls chasing after them?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am fleep:

Greetings to Joe and throng (yo, throng!)
  9:35am ami a.d.:

Cheers Joe,you are great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Oh, yeah, that was the year they combined the events! Bloody mess. Therefore the sage advice, please only stroll, sashay or crawl with scissors.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

The Strolling of the Bulls?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am Andrew Waterloo:

Chrissie Hynde would have used her side step
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38am EG_Astro:

mornings show is great. I so so delighted and ready to be in the rain all day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39am Andrew Waterloo:

I'm kinda of excited about seeing Cheap Trick tonight..
  9:39am krpprltrbf:

Hi, i love today's show! Although I never really got into Stereolab even though theoretically it should be right up my alley. Any recs?
Avatar 9:41am Joe McG:

@Andrew: Saw them a few years ago and they were great! @EG: Thanks! @krppr: I always say start with "Switched On" and "Transient Random Bursts blaha blah" and go from there. Their later albums are more esoteric, but still interesting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Andrew Waterloo:

@krpprltfbf: always been partial to Emperor Tomato Ketchup... I say their hit song is Low Boob Oscillator.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44am Brian in UK:

Hey Joe. Why do people wallpaper ceilings? This thought has crossed my mind several times today as I scrape AND the wallpaper stripper has broken.
Avatar 9:46am Joe McG:

This record is dirty! @Brian: I'd love to wallpaper my ceiling with sky wallpaper. @Andrew: Love "Lo Boob"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Brian in UK: it sounds like someone had too much coffee
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Phillippe Bastille:

@Granny sounds about right. As long as it is leisurely and sharp objects are left at home.
Avatar 9:47am βrian:

When wallpaper is properly applied, with sizing, you don't even need a stripper to get it off. So you may curse whoever put it there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am Andrew Waterloo:

I think wallpaper masks a lot of the undesirable character in plastered ceilings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48am Phillippe Bastille:

@Brian I cannot even imagine how difficult putting wallpaper up on the ceiling would be, let alone removing it. And I'm sure scissors are involved in that equation somehow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am Andrew Waterloo:

Usually people borrow the heat gun from my lab to remove their wall paper
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am steveo:

this bed!
Avatar 9:49am Stashu:

Joe knows greatness :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am Brian in UK:

@Phillippe yes when I slash my wrists!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am Phillippe Bastille:

Ok, time to type stuff I get paid for, will have to settle for just listening. Thank you Joe, see ya at the office supply store, everyone!
Avatar 9:51am Marc Francis:

I love the run of three records by Stereolab that had Emperor Tomato Ketchup.
Mars Audiac Quintet => Emperor Tomato Ketchup => Dot & Loops. Such an amazing trilogy!
Avatar 9:51am βrian:

Are it, really?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am Phillippe Bastille:

@Brian I believe it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51am The Oscar:

I should probably own more Stereolab. They're one of those bands I never had to go out of my way to listen to while I worked at the record store, because someone would inevitably play them during their shift.
Avatar 9:52am Stashu:

Fabulous wonderful and holy
Avatar 9:52am Marc Francis:

@ The Oscar: now is the perfect time to own them! They are currently remastering and rereleasing everything (that they own the rights to)!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Ken From Hyde Park:

You might even say we're in a Labyrinth thus far.
9:53am Dave in St Albans UK:

@ Marc. Totally agree on that trio of Lab albums. The great leap!
Avatar 9:53am Stashu:

Bright joyous and kind!
Avatar 9:53am Davee:

Who moved my cheese?
  9:54am krpprltrbf:

@Joe @Andrew Thanks, I will listen to them after the show!
Avatar 9:54am Marc Francis:

@ Dave in St Albans UK: Thats a perfect way to put it: "The great leap!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Davee: what color is your parachute?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55am The Oscar:

@Marc Good to know! Now to see if I can remember which ones I liked best when my coworkers played them :)
Avatar 9:56am Davee:

@Granny: Uh oh, I knew forgot something.
Avatar 9:56am Stashu:

  10:00am emily:

you're killing it, Joe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01am Ken From Hyde Park:

Haha! Anyone with five in a row it Four Corners yet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am The Oscar:

I've mentioned this around these parts before, but my first summer away from home I dedicated myself to trying to decode the similarities between Exile on Main Street and Exile in Guyville. I ultimately concluded there's nothing there, but both albums instantly transport me to my first apartment.
Avatar 10:03am βrian:

For a second, I confused Anita O. with Anita Bryant. Yikes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am The Oscar:

So psyched to receive this premium!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06am Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

βrian: yeah, i think there's a policy of refraining from airing Anita Bryant during Pride Month.
Avatar 10:06am Davee:

Man Joe, you are knocking it out of the park with the music this morning!
Avatar 10:06am βrian:

@The Oscar: Oh for such reasonably priced public transit!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am Andrew Waterloo:

If they played more Aerosmiith in the late 80's we may have avoided Guns 'n roses
Avatar 10:38am Roberto:

Dis arrowsmit sounz gud
Avatar 10:38am Joe McG:

Any experts out there? This mono single sounds like a different mix than the one I know from the LP. They certainly cut down the intro part for it.
  10:39am Brian in New Orleans:

Aerosmith is too avante garde for most 'fmu DJs...They're not traditional fodder like say Can.
  10:40am melinda:

I first heard Brown Girl while subbing for an aide in a preschool class. The visiting musician led the sing-along and the kiddies were supposed to do some movement or dance in the middle of the group circle but seemed uncomfortable showing their motion, no one cut loose.
Avatar 10:40am Davee:

@Andrew: Good point!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am randyfrommichigan:

from the sound of this song and the singer's voice I thought it was The Sweet

@randy/nicky: Yes, dead ringer for the Sweet's version from the "Billy Don't Be a Hero" gang.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am tim from champaign:

Hi Joe and friends!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am The Oscar:

@Brian A lot of that scene is still hanging around-- saw Peter Wolf at least once a week in my Cambridge record store days, and once spotted Roger Miller eating a sub on a park bench in Davis Square!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07am tim from champaign:

@randy - weren't J Geils pretty huge in Detroit?
  11:09am melinda:

I had a crush on Peter Wolf in 6th-7th grade.
Avatar 11:12am Joe McG:

@melinda: That's so cute! At least it wasn't Magic Dick.
  11:14am John W:

O Meadowlark is oh so drizzly Monday morning. Thanks Joe!
  11:15am melinda:

@Joe haha! I thought his name was funny.
Avatar 11:16am Joe McG:

@melinda: And then there's that guy in the back with the moustache and fedora who no one remembers the name of. Glad it wasn't him!
  11:18am melinda:

@Joe there were some sketchy characters
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19am randyfrommichigan:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am randyfrommichigan:

@tim I didn't move to Detroit area until '91 but in '81 I moved to Sarnia Ontario which is on the Michigan border about 60 miles from Detroit - that's when I started listening to Detroit radio. Yes I learned that J. Geils Band was really big in Detroit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am radioronan:

Peter Wolf is the og zelig of rocknroll. Still making great records & leaving his rubber soul on the stage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22am tim from champaign:

Speaking of sketchy characters in bands, I love the description of Mitch Ryder's band Detroit in the Detroit music oral history Detroit Rock City. The joke around the scene was band tryouts for the band Detroit consisted of opening the the county jail doors.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23am randyfrommichigan:

@tim that's funny
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am The Oscar:

One time at the store a cop rushed in to buy a J Geils record for Wolf to sign, all breathless and starstruck. We joked that he must have been new on the beat-- it's hard *not* to spot Peter Wolf in Harvard Square!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26am tim from champaign:

@randy - cool! I'm a Michigan dude myself. In high school, there's be a twice annual field trip to Stratford. We'd cross over through Port Huron/Sarnia.

There's a restaurant here in Waterloo that the J. Geil's band used to frequent. The owner used to run a great blues bar

I hear you Brian! In my humble opinion Michigan historically and currently is the best music state in the whole world.

@Oscar does he still hang around there? If so I should make a day trip like I used to and watch for him.
  11:37am Taavi:

But that's Jessie Colin Young's voice, no?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Brian in UK:

Just realised that this is on my modest swag list. Yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am randyfrommichigan:

@tim very cool! I've been to Stratford a couple of times back in the 70's/80's when I still lived in Canada.
@Brian my son lives in Ann Arbor going to University of Michigan but it's funny he doesn't care for Ann Arbor. He's in Silicon Valley CA right now for summer internship and loves it there, said that's where he hopes to get a full time job and live.

@melinda To the best of my knowledge-- he was still a regular fixture when I left the store a few years ago. He's pretty unmistakable!

you turn a melancholic morning into something sweetly hopeful. I saw Sachiko Kanenobu at Summer Stage on Saturday. Did I dream it or did she sing: "do you think i'm sexy?" in Japanese?
Avatar 11:46am Joe McG:

Glad you enjoyed that, Trista! Thank you so much, emily. I missed the Saturday show, but I doubt she sang that one! :)

Dare I say that Fairport's Meet On The Ledge is a modernish take on the Circle.
  11:48am Brendan:

Can a circle even be broken? Seems to me it would be just a line then... Thanks Joe.
