Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from June 7, 2019 Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Woodstock was the triumph of the Human Spirit over insufficient plumbing. A logistical disaster. Hard drugs & political tension. Few performers fed off that well. RichieHavens, TheWho (whom hated it), Santana, Mr. Jimi of course...
  1:35pm
Dean:

Okay, push-back. Because I don't listen to it more frequently than once a decade (that'd be ten years) these days, I still get a kick out of that Woodstock blockbuster performance. But my introduction to TYA was a year or two post-Woodstock, when somebody at a local park where I hung out was playing Cricklewood Green in the community center.
  1:35pm
rw:

I've never seen the Woodstock film. But I did for some reason have a copy of TYA's debut LP as a young kid. It had the opposite effect on me. Maybe check out that one UM. I think it's just called Ten Years After. With a sort of funhouse mirror image of the band on the cover. Great Spoonful as I recmember.

They were under-rehearsed! Jimi just pulled it out...
I wish Hendrix had played w/ Santana's band! It seems to be one of the things he was trying for...
Havens opened cause they weren't ready for electric acts yet.
Frankly - when I was 17 - dropped more acid than I yet understood to view the film - in the High School I was going to. Havens melted me to a pool right out the gate.

Of course - most people didn't know there were so many like themselves until Woodstock. & that was a thing. Also the beginning of the demographic selling of it... As George Clinton said - an end where most saw a beginning...

If you've been there a while, Johnzon, well, wow, that must have been a roller-coaster ride.

Right, UM. For me, place operates much like "a view" or climate when considering where to live, i.e., hardly at all. You are where you are. Every house, apartment, shack, you name it, has a view. (From home, ours is of a drug store, a busy street, and a funeral home. Who could ask for more?) Everybody has weather. Granted, I don't know the first thing about shoveling snow, but I do know how to act all inconvenienced and shit when the temperature dips below 60.

Brian in UK, getting older hasn't affected me one little...what was I gonna say?

Along those lines, my 92YO mother was hospitalized recently for another stroke. It wasn't too severe, but at 92, well, you know. The speech therapist, occupational therapist, doctor, and nurses checked in on her periodically to assess the severity. They ask the usual battery of questions: when were you born, what are your children's names, etc. The speech therapist asked, "Do you know what city you're in?" My mom replied, "Dysmenorrhea." The look on the speech therapist's face was priceless.

"Outside help" can be a mysterious proposition. After some effort, I was fortunate. My mom had a daily care giver who did amazing work before I moved her to be near us. After five months, we're still in a transition period, which requires more of my time both checking in with my mom and monitoring the site where she now resides. But as I mentioned several weeks ago, one day I strolled in to visit her in her "neighborhood," and the discussion was about Ornette Coleman. The staff played the first side of Shape of Jazz to Come. My estimation of the place rose substantially that day.
