A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

This is an amazing version!
Avatar 9:06am Roberto:

Good morning, Troub and Troubskateers. Troub, has DJIP made up his mind yet? I think the deadline has passed.
Avatar 9:06am northguineahills:

zeitkratzer also does an excellent version of music for airports. Around 2006, The JFK airport did a live version but was marred by hipsters vomiting in potted plants and general drunken behavior.
Avatar 9:07am Fredericks:

It is Bang On A Can!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am zopa:

71! whoa.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07am Roger:

Go Brian! he's gonna go until 801!
Avatar 9:07am northguineahills:

@Roger: I get that reference!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am Dropof Goldensun:

@Roger - Now I want to hear TNK by 801!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am MikeG:

My first night after moving to Brooklyn, I met an attractive Asian woman who told me she was Brian Eno's ex-girlfriend. I was never able to confirm this amazing statement.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:11am Webhamster Henry:

They should actually replace the Vivaldi that plays in Port Authority with it. Music for Bus Stations.

Such a nice version (& available on Bandcamp too: http://bangonacan.bandcamp.com/album/music-for-airports-live )

Car inspection tip: Make sure you have both rear license plate bulbs working. Apparently, you just need one working to pass inspection. I got pulled over a month after an inspection with both bulbs out. License plate bulbs aren't a thing I usually look at.

@KenHP: The only thing I get pulled over for is lights being out including the license plate light!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am Cmurtha:

How does being a radio station that streams online work with royalties? I was told terrestrial radıo royalties go to the song writer but online stuff goes to the artist directly. WHO GETS THE DOSH?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Ike:

Great sounds! @Webhamster Henry, what's the longest that DJ Kenny G ever played the Windows 95 Eno boot-up noise on a loop? 45 minutes? An hour?

meanwhile the born agains are sending women back to the stone age...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Webhamster Henry:

@Ike do you mean he's stopped playing it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am melinda:

@prudy it is grim

Avatar 9:58am Inner Ear Detour:

Milkman! I'm in the middle of it right now. So good. Amazing story telling and writing.
  9:58am John from Florham Park:

@PRB makes me wonder when dumpster is going to try and cut off things like the bbc and The CBC
  9:59am justin from merchantville:

yes! narrator's aside on kate bush was great in milkman.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59am Ike:

@WH, that's funny, I like thinking KG is still playing it somewhere, maybe on a boombox, maybe while riding trains, like the mentally-ill guy who was playing bad mainstream hip-hop (90s or 00s maybe) on the 5 train (and then the CD crapped out and he started trying to talk to everybody which was worse). Windows 95 boot noise would've been much better.
@Trouble, I thought you were talking about a Dead Milkmen autobiography for a second there.
  10:01am prudy:

John from FP: all he has to do is declare martial law.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03am Trouble:

hello@inner ear david! so glad to hear you love it. the NY times panned it as interminable! that is pure insanity
  10:03am John from Florham Park:

Just added “Milkman” to my list. Thanks for the recommendation!

One of the AL state senators is an ob/gyn who has been sued for malpractice more than once. Women and babies actually died under his "care" which tells you everything you need to know about the so-called pro-life position.
  10:07am prudy:

they are "pro-life" until you are born. Then they don't give a shit what happens.
  10:07am sugarwolf:

I've been reading and watching the Shetland mystery series. Much more fiber arts content in the books.

I have read/seen too many mysteries because certain plot twists and character reveals I totally called.

Greetings and goodmorning friends! I am feeling extra outrage and anger at the government and the atrocious bigotry in our society this week, but I know that I am far far from alone. I am glad to be here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am melinda:

@sugarwolf I loved the tv series. I'm slow enough that I don't figure things out before they're revealed. Hinterland in Wales was also good, and interesting to me because I had visited Aberystwyth years ago and recognized some of the spots.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am Adrian in London:

@Trouble/Sugarwolf: I haven;t read the Shetland series but this interview with Ann Cleeves, on Desert Island Discs, was great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am Trouble:

loved becoming @karen eliot!
Avatar 10:12am Kevin_Ringwood_ UK:

You do hear actual Shetland accents on the programme, but lots of Glasgow as well. My granny was from Glasgow, so it's not a problem for me, but I do wonder how overseas audiences manage. Perhaps you use subtitles?
Avatar 10:13am Kevin_Ringwood_ UK:

@melinda - +1 on Hinterland. I love the bi-lingual dialogue and the scenery is fantastic. Hoping for a new series this year
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am Trouble:

thanks adrian, will give it a listen. i haven't read the books, i partly watch the tv show for the sheep and the knits!
Avatar 10:15am Kevin_Ringwood_ UK:

Right now on BBC Four we have a Canadian police series called Cardinal, which is great, and they have just starting showing a trailer which features a fantastic French detective series called Spiral (Engrenages), so that should be broadcast soon. That's fantastic if you can get it (I have all 6 series on DVD)

Pains me to feel that Animal Collective has fallen off so hard these days... They had a beautiful run. And the more Avey puts out now, the more it affirms his genius.
  10:20am sugarwolf:

They change a lot in the show. They have different characters commit the murders! And book Perez has dark hair.

I do alright with the accents but I think I need a map to understand the geography.
Avatar 10:20am Roberto:

I was just looking for some closure :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am Adrian in London:

  10:28am John from Florham Park:

@Trouble good for your son what is his major in there
Avatar 10:29am Roberto:

I doubt he has a major yet seeing as he hasn't even begun!
Avatar 10:30am Kevin_Ringwood_ UK:

@Adrian, no date has been given yet, but one of the BBC Four trailers is featuring scenes from Spiral that I haven't seen, so it can't be long to wait (I hope)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am Phillippe Bastille:

@KFHP 9:30 Sorry, late to the response about the tag light. Police like to use stuff like a burnt out light bulb, cracked lens, and other minor stuff as probable cause to pull folks over late at night when the bar crowd is on the way home.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44am Passaic River Blues:

The last two Saturdays my wife and I have gone to Military Park across the street from our building in Newark to creep on migrating warblers. It's been wonderful: common yellowthroats, black-and-white warblers, ovenbirds, and possibly one skittish parula just flitting around like joyful pixies.
  10:45am Old Todd:

I thought I recognized the voice on that Brian Harnetty track...and sure enough, it was my old professor from Ohio...just reached out to him and reconnected...thanks WFMU!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:51am Passaic River Blues:

@AaronfromMI: I am unfamiliar with that term. Does that mean using an application to identify birds?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Rev. Granny Spicy Tuna:

I just got a message from the Universal Life Church that it's my 10th anniversary of being ordained! Who needs an officiant? I do weddings, divorces, gender affirmations and the occasional bris. You name it!
  10:53am John from Florham Park:

@granny that is a problem trying to get sleep
Avatar 10:54am aaronfromMI:

PRB: ebird is citizen science program put out by cornell. It's an app that lets you collect data on what you saw, where you saw it, and when you saw it. There are field guide apps, which can be useful, but I like an old fasioned field guide.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55am Passaic River Blues:

@AaronfromMI: Holy shit. I want that. Thank you for looking out there, sir!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am Rev. Granny Spicy Tuna:

No problem! My wife and I are amateur birders. We live in Philly now, but we seem some warblers in our back yard. Michigan had great birds!
  11:00am John from Florham Park:

@Granny too bad the morons in my home state have not gotten their act together
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00am Z-pulpa:

@ Rev. Granny Spicy Tuna, I have been sleeping more and deeper this week than usual, I think herb, emotional affirmations, and the taste of summer weather has been helping. I am very thankful for it even though I am a bit groggy this morning, better than no sleep nervous.
Avatar 11:01am aaronfromMI:

  11:07am @aaronfrommi:

that site sounds great! we are seeing lots of different birds at our new residence
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09am Passaic River Blues:

@AaronfromMI: One of the people who has logged the most sightings in Military Park is a professor at NJIT and colleague of David Rothenberg, author of a book called "Why Birds Sing" and past guest of This Is the Modern World!

@Mike G I can confirm — the "attractive Asian woman" you met told us she was Eno's wife. Can't remember her name but she wrote a slim graphic novel.
