Greetings, all! I'll be doing something a bit different today: I'll be playing whole sides of albums (one side each). Eight albums in all.

I like this Dark Marx record, but I don't find it too spine-chilling (it was recorded as the soundtrack for a horror movie)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm
Michael 98145:

subtle horror, it would seem
  12:10pm
Dean:

Oct. '88 Fangoria magazine includes this ad for the record:

SPACEY, SCARY MUSIC from the sci-fi/horror cult video "You Don't Bring Me Flowers.” This LP record soundtrack contains some of the most disgusting music and fart blasting noise ever recorded! Great part record! Send $5 to Dark Marx Productions, P.O. Box 55330, Hayward, CA 94545.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm

Wow @Dean. Great sleuthing !

I take it Dark Marx was a side project for Richard?

The P.O. Box now belongs to Rivers Association of Northern California, so don't write them expecting to acquire a copy of the record.

Avatar 12:29pm
Tony Coulter:

I used to have a tape by one of the members of Once -- wish I still did.
  12:39pm
Dean:

Hmm...according to that discogs link, there's a fifth track on side A, "Maybe."
Avatar 12:44pm
Tony Coulter:

@ Dean: Nah, that's a mistake on their part. "Maybe" is the first track on side B. I should complain to the head office.
Avatar 12:45pm
Kay:

Is the show going to be archived, unlike Tape Hiss? Inquiring minds want to know.
Avatar 12:46pm
Tony Coulter:

That's what comes from file-sharing -- people get confused.
Avatar 12:46pm
Tony Coulter:

Hiya, Kay! Yes, it will be archived, since I'm playing 1/2 albums, not whole ones.
  12:48pm
Dean:

Well, that's the first time I've encountered error on the Web.

i thought i encountered an error on a website recently, but gooble informed me i was mistaken, and reminded me of the day before when i left the house without my keys; and that my pants aren't very complimentary and directed me to an online shopping site.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:58pm
Granny Spicy Tuna:

this keeps reminding me of Wendy Carlos

Dean:

I once mumbled something about not trusting everything you read on the Web, and in response I received a sharply worded postcard from Sir Tim Berners-Lee chastising me for the indiscretion. He was pissed.

JtotheK:

I really enjoyed that side of Yves & Saint Laurent LP! And discogs shows it's ... (relatively) attainable!
Avatar 1:02pm
Tony Coulter:

@ JtotheK: Yes, I think it's a great LP -- and still much underappreciated ... hence the not-so-crazy price
Avatar 1:06pm
Tony Coulter:

Here's the Quantum LP on now: www.discogs.com...
  1:07pm
Dean:

It appears they have arranged an "easy" piano piece by Bartok in the suite that closes this side.
Avatar 1:10pm
Tony Coulter:

Right you are!
Avatar 1:11pm
Tony Coulter:

After all, what's a prog suite without quotations from a classical piece?
  1:14pm
Dean:

Ha, I read a scathing review of ELP's Works v.1 yesterday, including particularly damning comments about their treatments of classical tunes. But you know, a lot of groups only set the stage with recordings of classical tracks before they appear, e.g., Yes's routine entrance after the finale from Stravinsky's Firebird.
  1:15pm
Dean:

But then Wakeman did that bit from Brahms.
  1:15pm
Dean:

OT, Tim Conway has died.

And RDM had that entire album of Bach tribute.

Stinky Winkles covered Webern -- and very well too.

Here's the Gambino album: www.discogs.com...

Thom Gambino is sort of a much hipper version of Rod Mckuen

hii Tony !! Your voice sounds like John_Cage performed his "empty words" here in Milan in 1977 !! wow ... The same tone of voice !

It actually reminds me of Vincent Price at the end of "Dr. Phibes Rises Again" that John Schnall uses as his outro.

@Dean: Maybe some of Gregg Turkington's earliest efforts.
