A two-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

so glad to be back again, Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm Rich in Washington:

I got that picnic disease again!
Avatar 7:11pm Don-O:

It's freakin' spreading, my friends!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm Linda Lee:

is tick-bourne illness considered picnic disease? if so, count me in!
Avatar 7:13pm Mr Fab:

Hey Rich, and fellow crate-diggers. I'm watching that video loop over and over, hoping that she'll finally open up the dress and stop teasing me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm Linda Lee:

i don't believe there's any there there, Mr Fab! there is no more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm Linda Lee:

just exciting new space-age fabric.
Avatar 7:19pm Mr Fab:

Space-Age Fabrics! To wear in the monorail on the way to your lunar luau. Far more exciting than the same ol' nekkid ladies. Where's that vid from, Rich?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm Rich in Washington:

It's actually a random video someone made for Float On by The Floaters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm Linda Lee:

that's just how they'd plug these garments. new! easy! modern! ephemeral!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Rich in Washington:

Not sure what it actually was, so made a gif of part of it.
Avatar 7:22pm Don-O:

Damn! I miss and missed out those Space-Age party. I was too much of a young whipper-snapper to drink it all in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm Linda Lee:

my mom was a clothing designer at the time. i actually had some little space-age garments!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Linda Lee:

i'm sure they still exist in some other dimension.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Rich in Washington:

Oh man. We're getting a functional treadle sewing machine delivered today and I'm really excited.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Rich in Washington:

I can finally make the leisure suit of my dreams.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Linda Lee:

really?
what's your plan for it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm Linda Lee:

cross post. pardon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm Rich in Washington:

Just sewing. We've had terrible luck with modern sewing machines.
Avatar 7:27pm Mr Fab:

Wow, that's so cool, Linda!

i did once take the monorail to the Space Needle, visiting Seattle. and LAX airport once took advantage of that icon of Space-Age architecture, the Theme Building, and used it to house a restaurant called Encounter. We had our wedding reception there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Rich in Washington:

My main plan is making all these damn vintage shirts I keep buying just a tiny bit smaller. Things like that. And my wife makes curtains from strange fabrics she finds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm Linda Lee:

@Mr Fab ~ that sounds like fun. a nice alternative to the tiki theme.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm Linda Lee:

the old machines hold up beautifully, Rich. sewing for yourself really is a wonderful thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm Rich in Washington:

The Monorail's fun. I have a couple of videos I shot riding it back and forth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm Linda Lee:

& if things go really well with your ideas, there's etsy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Rich in Washington:

I do dig sewing, but mainly just good at fixing stuff. But I'd love to learn how to do minor alterations, etc.
Avatar 7:30pm Don-O:

Fab, what's the condition of the theme building these days/ I know the Encounter is not there anymore, but is the observation deck open?
Avatar 7:30pm Don-O:

Rich, that would be something I would do if I go near Seattle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm Rich in Washington:

My wife's pretty good at sewing. She made all of our sons kilts for a wedding, pleats and all.
Avatar 7:31pm Mr Fab:

Hmm, that's a good point, Linda. Tho I luvs me some tiki bars, maybe someone could open a Space Age bar.
Avatar 7:32pm Mr Fab:

Don-O: According to Senor Amor, who used to DJ at Encounter, it's all closed after 9/11.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:32pm Linda Lee:

is it still possible to find inexpensive vintage? nyc was paradise when i was growing up there. just fabulous vintage & army/navy. fantastic. now i guess the outlets are in on the authenticity craze & want a bigger cut of the action.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Rich in Washington:

yeah. They youngsters are discovering Tiki bars now, so it's time for a Space Age Bachelor/Bachelorette Bar!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Linda Lee:

excellent idea. like the old west coast drive-ins!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm Linda Lee:

i seem to remember a space theme everywhere when we visited LA in the mid 60s.
Avatar 7:35pm Don-O:

All this talk about a Space Age bar reminds me of Verner Panton. People are so afraid of colors these days.
Avatar 7:38pm Mr Fab:

Ah, just checked wiki: the observation deck has reopened at the Theme Bld, but weekends only. Maybe we could smuggle in thermoses of cocktails..? (and listen to this episode! gettin pretty space-y here)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm Linda Lee:

.. unless they're self-conscious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:39pm Linda Lee:

i mean the colors.
Avatar 7:39pm Don-O:

I knew the deck at the theme building was closed since 9/11, I just didn't know the restaurant was closed during that time. Too many trips to the deck during my airport rats days and I went to the Encounter once with some curious co-workers. I dug the whole thing (except the prices) but everybody was putt off and looked at me like they accidentally invited a Trekkie. A good/bad experience.

Avatar 7:40pm grantbob:

Seemed to be a bunch of Soothing Sounds for Baby in that last Heins Hoffman-Richter thing. Pretty cool. Not familiar with it.
Avatar 7:41pm Don-O:

The deck is open?! Cool! I'll have to remember that with my next LA trip.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm Rich in Washington:

Hiya Granny Spicy Tuna! Glad you could make it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm Rich in Washington:

And grantbob! Thanks for tuning in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm Rich in Washington:

The Heins Hoffman Richter is actually Rod McKuen making a fake avant garde album.
Avatar 7:43pm Mr Fab:

That's amazing!
Avatar 7:43pm grantbob:

with Raymond Scott in the background... :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

Hey, i am noticing the space theme and the Space Needle mentioned, so it's my cue to invite anybody/everybody to meet me "at the top of the Space Needle" on May 1, 2025, high noon. I do this every ten years. I take everyone who came to meet me out to lunch.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm Rich in Washington:

That's cool! I should take you up on that, if I'm not in some reeducation camp or something.
Avatar 7:45pm Don-O:

Talk about inviting Space Age Trouble!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

The Space Needle rendezvous has happened in 1995, 2005, and 2015.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:45pm Linda Lee:

i love the wash of sound behind Willie Mays. hi there Granny!
Avatar 7:46pm Mr Fab:

yeah, let's all try and make it! i just need a desk calendar that goes that far into the future...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm Rich in Washington:

some somewhat NSFW stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm Linda Lee:

i'd love making that party a goal, Granny! fabulous!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

Hey there, Linda Lee, great to see you here.

Here is a little video i made of the folx who met me in 2005:

Avatar 7:47pm Don-O:

Saying "Masturbating" done to the tone similar to George Takei.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:47pm Linda Lee:

i'm fainting with pleasure over this accujack commerical. the strings!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm Rich in Washington:

Such a weird film. I watched this drunk a couple of weeks ago while listening to Throbbing Gristle records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm Linda Lee:

that's beautiful darling! are you in the pink?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm Rich in Washington:

It's hard to find, too. Someone keeps taking it down. Either because it's faintly obscene or someone owns the rights or thinks they do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

LL: thanks! Yes, i am often very pink.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm Linda Lee:

you're gorgeous! love seeing you!
Avatar 7:52pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:53pm Linda Lee:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

we always eat at the same vegetarian Chinese restaurant at the same table with the Lazy Susan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Rich in Washington:

It's pretty peculiar, isn't it. I also have his Manhattan record but I have yet to listen to it.
Avatar 7:54pm coelacanth∅:

holy shit! 1953?
maybe this guy gave William Shatner acting lessons!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm Rich in Washington:

HA! For sure!
Avatar 7:56pm Don-O:

Later, Rich! C-ya next week!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm Linda Lee:

ah!!! don't remind me of the manhattan record! i left it behind at the farmhouse i sold last year & promised to return for it. alas, i believe it's now gone..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm Linda Lee:

your party grows every year, Granny? i hope so!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

Avatar 7:57pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Rich
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm Granny Spicy Tuna:

hope to see you at the top of the space needle in 2025
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm Linda Lee:

see you all soon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm Rich in Washington:

I'm sure. I love it because it was used in Vision On, a show that warped me as a very small child.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks LL! Thanks GST!
Thanks for listening everybody! See you all next week!
Avatar 7:59pm coelacanth∅:

hmm, "vision on"... unfamiliar
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm Rich in Washington:

Oh man. So cool. You must check it out, if you can. early 70s UK TV.
Avatar 8:00pm coelacanth∅:

i'm intrigued!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm Rich in Washington:
