I never miscue a record. I am punctual, well-prepared, and dislike clutter. Outgoing and helpful, I'm always appropriately dressed. I do not behave erratically and have excellent penmanship. My CD's never skip, and I am in good health. I like all the notes, in any order.

  12:17pm John from Florham Park:

@phillipe did you get your driveway shoveled yet?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Dave in Vermont:

hello and thanks

@cmurtha hello back
And this is just a tasty snack for sofistaiced boom boom

..the magic invisibility of radio, even if the DJ is appropriately dressed.
  12:19pm John from Florham Park:

Hi Karen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Phillippe Bastille:

@John. Nah. I'm following Queems advice and hoping it'll go away. Looks like that plan is working for the blacktop, the brick walkway not so much. I'll just throw down some salt. I've learned that rock salt used in water conditioners works great -- big chunks that down wash away with the first melt.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Carmichael:

Happy Bryce Day. I hope you are all dressed accordingly, and have brought the proper food items.
  12:23pm John from Florham Park:

@phillipe oh very cool

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Phillippe Bastille:

Yeah, my wife slipped on the ice about 40 years ago and has been paranoid ever since. Had to find a solution or otherwise I'd be shovelling and salting every 20 minutes.
  12:26pm John from Florham Park:

Yeah slipping on ice is not very fun
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Carmichael:

@Phillippe, buy a big ol' monster snowblower that's real noisy and mechanical. That way, you can record it and send it to Bryce for airplay and, eventually, stardom.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm tim from champaign:

If I were to write a personal mission statement like Bryce's, mine would say "My clothes always fit and do not have food stains. I always remain vertical".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm Phillippe Bastille:

@carmichael Excellent idea! I could be a youtube star!
  12:34pm John from Florham Park:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm tim from champaign:

This Black To Comm reminds me of the tibetan buddhist monk music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Phillippe Bastille:

what isn't?
Avatar 12:38pm Bryce:

tim, i wish i could credibly make any of those 3 claims

Jozef Van Wissem & Jim Jarmusch rock. Wow. This is my favorite song I have ever heard on any of your shows, Bryce.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm zpulpa:

I hope this sound heals my emotional wounds. I think it may be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Carmichael:

i wish there were video of this thing. it was sound & light installation of tuning forks (hit with solenoids). the pictuyre on the album cover looks real purty

I often am able to ignore my tinnitus, until the subject is brought up. Then, I count my other blessings.
Avatar 1:06pm crateslinger:

any second now the rest of the band is gonna kick in.
Avatar 1:08pm Bryce:

oh wait, there is!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Ken From Hyde Park:

If a company is working on a device that cancels tinnitus sounds, similar to noise-cancelling headphones, I'd gladly fund that. I've been hearing sleigh bells occasionally lately. Driving me nuts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Mister Dobalina:

This sounds great with headphones! Love me the Bryce sound machine!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm steveo:

they are apparently cochlear implants you can get, Ken. (I am not a doctor)

i'm going for the anti-typo implant, myself
Avatar 1:17pm crateslinger:

sometimes I can hear my blood rushing through my ears with my heartbeat - sounds like breathing. When I was a teenager, I thought it was the devil entering my body because I was listening to Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath.

Nice shit Bryce. Deeply digging it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Tuning sporks would also be useful at lunch time.
Avatar 1:30pm northguineahills:

  1:43pm nic:

wow!!!_love this!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Ike:

This is great. BTW I went to see the PS1 half of the Bruce Nauman exhibit and the video loop of steel guitarist Lloyd Maines was entrancing, but they had a quiet version of "Carousel" instead of the irri-taining, screechy, squeal-y version where it drags a fake carcass around in a circle on metal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Krys O.:

I recently had pulsatile tinnitus. It worried me, but it went away.
Avatar 1:58pm slugluv1313:

good afternoon, Bryce and everyone!
especially loving this "Hi Ka Ri" -- ahhhh beautifully clearing my mind . . . .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Krys O.:

My ex had terrible tinnitus and we tried using a CD of white noise using a player on endless repeat. He said that when the disc ended for a brief moment before starting again, the silence would sometimes wake him up.
Avatar 2:00pm Chris from DC:

I can't sleep if it's too quiet. I usually have a fan going.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Krys O.:

This would make a good album title: Superior Canal Dehiscence: en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Krys O.:

" In contrast, patients with SCDS-related autophony report hearing their own voice as a disturbingly loud and distorted "kazoo-like" sound deep inside the head as if relayed through "a cracked loudspeaker." Additionally they may hear the creaking and cracking of joints, the sound of their footsteps when walking or running, their heartbeat and the sound of chewing and other digestive noises. Some sufferers of this condition experience such a high level of conductive hyperacusis that a tuning fork placed on the ankle will be heard in the affected ear. The bizarre phenomenon of being able to hear the sound of the eyeballs moving in their sockets (e.g. when reading in a quiet room) "like sandpaper on wood" is one of the more distinctive features of this condition and is almost exclusively associated with SCDS.[7]"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Mister Dobalina:

I'm the opposite and can only sleep in hyperbaric chamber.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Mister Dobalina:

Avatar 2:04pm Chris from DC:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm sphere:

i can only sleep in an engine room.
Avatar 2:05pm crateslinger:

I was camping and my heartbeat fooled me as footsteps and I assumed my friend (retired sniper) was sneaking up on my tent. When I said something to him in the morning, he said, “You wouldn’t have heard me.”
Avatar 2:06pm northguineahills:

@chris: me too.

when my eustachian tubes get clogged, my voice sounds like it's from another body, and I can hear my breathing and heartbeat very intensely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm tim from champaign:

I need to get this Senyawa.
Avatar 2:07pm northguineahills:

@sphere: I once used the youtube of 24 hours of Star Trek TNG engine room sound to sleep when insomnia hit me, it worked!
Avatar 2:08pm WmKMoss:

This Senyawa piece is pleasantly intense.
Avatar 2:09pm crateslinger:

Whenever we leave town my kids can’t sleep because it’s too quiet. They grew up in Brooklyn. I can sleep anywhere, anytime, with anybody...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Devin B.:

Grew up near a major airport. Planes landing and taking off all day and night. I like to have a sound happening for sleep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Barney Grubbs:

I bought Sujud on bandcamp but couldn't remember where I heard it. now i remember
Avatar 2:12pm Bryce:

that SCDS description, oh my GOD. i'd rather of charles bonnet syndrome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Mister Dobalina:

@Northguineahills -- I'm not any sort of doctor, in real life or on TV but I'm pretty sure we only have one Eustachian tube. Mine likes to act up every once in a while and the deep humming sound when I speak drives me crazy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm steveo:

@Ike the pedal steel video was great; i think my favorite piece was the rat maze/drummer though
Avatar 2:14pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Living in DC for ages, which has strictly controlled airspace, hearing planes overhead is totally alien & a bit eerie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Mister Dobalina:

It also has had sever impact on my illustrious scuba diving career. Really bummed out about that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Krys O.:

I hear you, Bryce. Sometimes my mother who is 93 and has dementia describes what sounds like CBS. Definitely better than auditory torture.
Avatar 2:15pm crateslinger:

Anybody ever tried ear candles?
Avatar 2:16pm northguineahills:

@Mister Dobalina: We have one eustachian tube for each ear.
Avatar 2:17pm northguineahills:

@Rev: I spent my childhood living on/near Navy air bases, I got used to hearing jets all the time, yet, other noise keeps me awake...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm Krys O.:

At one point growing up in the early 1970s, my family lived across the street from our town's train station. We had Amtrak, Conrail, freight trains at all hours. The first night was horrible and none of us could sleep, but we became accustomed to it.
Avatar 2:18pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Crateslinger-wow, it must take forever to get enough wax to make one of those "ear candles". I'll bet they're popular in Williamsburg right now! Heh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Krys O.:

My mom used to use warm, melted butter in my ear if I had an earache.
Avatar 2:19pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@NGH: all the more reason why moving to Tucson was intense; with Davis Monthan AFB just south of town; they'd do these subsonic flyovers at all hours. That + the border patrol helicopters shining spotlights at all the houses from low altitudes. Yeesh.
Avatar 2:20pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Krys O-in Clovis NM (Northeast corner near Texas border) the trains run by about 3 an hour. The rents for apartments closer to the tracks are significantly cheaper than those further away from the tracks. The trains ran 24/7/
Avatar 2:20pm crateslinger:

@wild neil yeah, I get mine at the craft mayonnaise boutique... actually ear candles are candles you stick in your ear and light and they pull the wax out of your inner head. Pretty awesome. Like a brain enema.
Avatar 2:20pm βrian:

Ear candles will irritate your ears and offer no benefit. Beware.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm Mister Dobalina:

@North - I guess that would make sense..I always thought it was a only one. Thanks for taking me to school.
Avatar 2:21pm crateslinger:

I used them once. I felt great afterwards.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Phillippe Bastille:

I used to do a lot of kayak fishing in a reservoir that is midway between Baltimore and DC, so you always had a plane heading to Dulles, BWI, or Reagan National. The noise was part of the landscape. I went out there and fished the day after THE 9/11, when all the planes were grounded. Eerily silent.
Avatar 2:22pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Crateslinger-that really works?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm steveo:

i have an ear candle in right now; it's great: i don't even notice the trains
Avatar 2:23pm βrian:

I had my ears irrigated at a clinic once. A wax boulder plopped into the tray. What a difference!
Avatar 2:24pm crateslinger:

Like Brian says, I’ve heard they’re bad, and now they’re hard to find, but when I did it, back when you could still do things, they pulled a whole mess of stuff out and I felt like a little kid afterwards.
Avatar 2:24pm crateslinger:

I’ve been wanting to do it again ever since.
Avatar 2:26pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Crateslinger-will keep an open mind about that then. I get my wife carbolic acid and the kit, then she never wants me to do it for her. I had a tonsil stone about the size of a couple of peas once, it stunk like dead dog barf and shit. Yuk. I think they call them tonsilliths.
Avatar 2:27pm crateslinger:

the human body is a beautiful magnificent machine
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm zpulpa:

remember that little wind up frog that was playing the trumpet and dancing that one time?
Avatar 2:28pm βrian:

After having a look, doc surmised that either a lamprey had entered my brain via the ear canal or that I had been messing with ear candles.

I felt so embarrassed.
Avatar 2:28pm crateslinger:

Brian did you ever use ear candles?
Avatar 2:30pm βrian:

Well, no lampreys, if that's what you mean...
Avatar 2:30pm northguineahills:

haven't heard this Autechre!!! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Ike:

@Krys@2:18, don't 93-year-olds watch every show on CBS? Definitely endless-crime-show torture! [sad rimshot]
Avatar 2:31pm crateslinger:

I’m actually serious, did ear candles mess you up?
Avatar 2:31pm βrian:

I mean, ouch!:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm zpulpa:

Anyone ever embarrassed themselves when seeing a wfmu dj irl ?
Avatar 2:34pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

Ever since I had my 4 wisdom teeth removed in one session my jaw pops. THAT is a hell of a disturbing noise. It sounds like bones are breaking. Yuk.
Avatar 2:36pm crateslinger:

It’s weird to think that all my junky friends that died in their 20’s never got to experience any of this body falling apart stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm zpulpa:

Wfmu I think may be a big help in reminding me to clean my ears.. I find that when Fabio's voice is strangely muffled i just need a Q-tip
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Phillippe Bastille:

Its when you can't hear Todd-o-phonic Todd that you know you have a real problem. Sounds like he's doing a remote from a Toyota dealership parking lot each week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm zpulpa:

Id also love to listen to this show after getting out of a sensory deprivation tank.
Avatar 2:39pm crateslinger:

Yo, you seen Dan, man? Ear candles really messed him up, man.
Avatar 2:40pm Chris from DC:

Someday I will find 8 hours for that complete Autechre album in one sitting. Maybe on a long trip.
Avatar 2:41pm βrian:

@Phillipe B: No kidding. I wonder if the guy even has an "inside voice." It's a bit much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42pm zpulpa:

Anyone have shows they listen to while half asleep/awake and have weird dreams about or just feel strange memories of?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm Barney Grubbs:

looking forward to the bryce/toddophonic todd team up next week!
Avatar 2:43pm northguineahills:

@zpulpa: just WFMU....
Avatar 2:44pm northguineahills:

@rian:It's like both of my bros. They both don't possess an inside voice, so I never get any sleep at either of houses.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm zpulpa:

@ northguineahills, haha wfmu is my only show, but within that, my morning half asleep wake and bake and the zoe b show are two that have had me in a weird trance.
Avatar 2:46pm Chris from DC:

I once left the local NPR station on, and woke up briefly while they were reading a passage from a book about what it's like to drown. Really freaked me out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Krys O.:

@Ike: My mom has late-stage dementia and likes to watch cooking or gardening shows.
Avatar 2:47pm βrian:

We're working with Five-Year Old right now on the concept of Inside Voice. She gets it, but sometimes she forgets it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm bit rot:

RIGHT ON, Bryce!
  2:47pm John from Florham Park:

@zulpa whenever I hear something on the paranormal
Avatar 2:48pm crateslinger:

I sometimes go to sleep listening to 30 Rock on my headphones.
  2:49pm nic:

love this!!!_love it all!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Ike:

@βrian, I'm at least 7 times as old (okay, maybe a little more) and I'm still working on that one.
Avatar 2:49pm βrian:

Back in the day, I recall waking up to birdsong, only to belatedly realize it was the start of Robert J. Lurtsema's radio show.

"Yikes, someone's speaking in my bedroom, and it's not me!"
  2:49pm John from Florham Park:

@krys that sucks really does you try not to get pissed at them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Michael 98145:

Avatar 2:51pm βrian:

@Ike: We typically intervene by saying "We're *right* here!" That befuddles her for a sec, then she starts to speak softly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm zpulpa:

oooooh I luv this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Brian its always fun when they're speaking too loudly that you say "What?". They'll keep getting louder until they are shouting. Worth a good laugh, but then you wind up getting old and living alone...
Avatar 2:54pm βrian:

I must say, while Bryce displays the occasional streak of audio sadism, he always has a pleasant speaking voice.
Avatar 2:55pm WmKMoss:

I love cooking shows. Not the high drama shows but the quiet and calm stuff like Jacque Pepin. It helps trigger my ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm steveo:

  2:56pm matty from brooklyn:

Deutscher Kaiser hahahaha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Phillippe Bastille:

@WmKMOSS the latest iteration of the Great British Baking Show is sublime. REally sweet sense of c"coopetition" among amateur contestants. And the addition of Noel Fielding to circulate through the contestants to joke and calm them down was brilliant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Devin B.:
