@Krys o Let's do it! Record a "you're listening to sheena's jungle room on wfmu." and I'll play it on my show for sure.. maybe we can put an archive of stuff like that together? I can organize that if ya'll want that's what I do at FreeformPortland

I didn't know until I started listening to this stream that The Ray Charles Singers were unconnected with Ray Charles the singer. I just assumed his backing group became a seller as a result of his fame.

Mr Fab:

This "Tarzan" is hysterical
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm
Jan Turkenburg:

I just realized I might have offended somebody with "queer flute" , was unintended of course. It's an inside joke in a band I once played the flute in. When in German someone called me the "queere flute player" (querflöte = flute in German) I won't use the expression again here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
Jan Turkenburg:

so, ok, there's a flute again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
Mr Fab:

Jan, we are the LEAST offendable people on the web! In fact, we DEMAND offensive jokes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm
Otis Fodder:

So many flutes of all shapes and sizes. oooooooh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm

Ok, this is the queerest flute I've had in my ears for months!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm

Just heard part of a radio interview this morn with James Brown's last manager, who claims JB may have been...MURDERED! Uh, sure...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm

Yes, keep up with the flute jokes. Offensive is fine, just don't be mean. Do ya know what i mean?

Sometimes the way we express our love may seem a bit…odd? Queer, even.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm
Jan Turkenburg:

@Granny yes I know what you mean, but though my English may seem adequate, I'm not always 100% sure if I'm on the right frequency with some expressions, for it's not my native language

Jan Turkenburg, it can be tricky expressing humor in different languages/cultures. You just never quite know when you're stepping right over that line of OK into UH-OH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
Rich in Washington:

I've been watching SCTV a lot lately and there's this spooky library piece from the later episode where an evil entity is turning SCTV people into glitter - the same spooky music is used in Kids in the Hall, the Simon and manservant Hecubus. Man, we're nerds!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm
Otis Fodder:

The one Muller album that stays on the shelf. No duds imho, all killer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm
Mr Fab:

Ed Woods' "Orgy of the Dead" uses the same music as the great film noir "Angel's Flight." Also from 1965. (As sampled by Messer CHups in the song "Orgia of Dead.")
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm

Next cut might be NSFW. Extreme moaning. Fair warning for those in public work spaces. I guess it depends on the space you work in tho'!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm

Hmmm, I think the tracks were 'Design Objective Your Advertising Dreams Come True'....at least according to the bootlegs....and I know that I got one of them from Otis years ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm
Otis Fodder:

@Don - Did you? Oh wow. I don't even remember, but then again the old distro catalog I ran had over 3000 titles when it ended in 1999. Another life, long ago.

The True/False show in Portland 2000 was the first show my then fiancee and I went to together. Fun times.

Negativland sampled The Slurp too. I think it was on that People Like Us ‎– Hate People Like Us remix comp.

OTIS: actually, you set the Chicago show on 3 CD-R's (I still have them. BTW, Don Joyce broadcast the soundboard copy in one of the 'Lobster" episodes on OTE. Too bad it never got an official release...outside of the Archive.org

@Don - Wow, don't even remember, so much dubbing and copying from 1994-1999, my brain went numb. My old stack of 8 double dubbing decks in my Seattle apartment. From 1999-2002, gave 90% of the collection away to friends who would come by in Seattle and donated a bunch to a learning library in Seattle. I have a small handful here to remember that project by.

Is Blue Marble Company Inc. on discogs? What was that?

@BC - No, not on Discogs. From an album TAKE ONE! by the folks behind the show. Promo sort of thing.

Otis: The Interstellar Café! I have dim memories of that. Wasn't it a free album download that you would rotate every week? I think i sent you some things to post...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm

I dig your idea of ripping the keepers and getting rid of the disks, Otis. I don't know why that's never occurred to me before. I am so inclined to horde crap.

You could be the Marie Kondo of records, Otis!

I think I have post-record purge guilt syndrome. I think of all the records I'd have now if I didn't purge over the years. More than I could realistically listen to and enjoy, I'll say that.
Avatar 5:11pm
Don-O:

I also know a couple of tapes with the Intersteller Cafe tile on them. I managed to save those two tape to CD-Rs. A fine mix of lounge and industrial records!!!

@Rich - I have moved/lived in a bunch of towns and had many large purges over the years. In the habit still, I purge regularly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm
Rich in Washington:

I used to see the obligatory 'record collector dude in a roomful of records' pic and wish I had that many, but now, I go - when I see someone like Thurston Moore, etc - I go 'Wow. He could never actually have the time to listen to all those records.
Avatar 5:12pm

Well, I might be purging myself soon as there's a movie to Arizona hanging over my head this year. EEECH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm

That's a drag, spacebrother! I've only just had dribs and drabs of records disappear back in my party animal days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm

That's it, exactly. How in the hell would I listen to it all. Play it and purge it if it only has 1 or 2 good cuts.

I did recently have a friend have a bunch of very irreplaceable rare Jazz records stolen by a person he'd put up to help out. He and the records vanished off the face of the earth.

One cool thing about doing a weekly show is that I am exploring corners of my collection hither and yon and finding stuff I'd forgotten about - played a few times, shelved, lost, etc.

2 good cuts on this Welk album. Star Trek and Baretta. Otherwise, slumber time.

SWAT is good too on the Welk album actually. I like to joke that every second school band LP I pick up from the mid-70s has a cover of SWAT.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm

Welk also did a version of The Addams Family theme.

Oh, in La La Land Records 3 CD version of ST: TMP, they not only have the unedited Bob James single, but, for the Japanese audience, Shawn Cassidy singing the lyrics to Illia's Theme.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm
Otis Fodder:

@chresti - The radio show helps now to purge. Last year and before when I was absent from radio for 8 years, I made CDR and Digital comps of the best songs from records I purge. Still keep the music, push the media to, hopefully, another home where it will be enjoyed. Or the dump.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm
Rich in Washington:

I have this Pourcel lp, and it's one of those where I just listened to it once, maybe played something on a show, then shelved and completely forgot about it. Again, I need to sort more often.

@Otis- I used to regularly do that- make cdrs with selected favorite songs and then trade in the original cds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm

@chresti - Totally, that's the best. Any sort of media will do and after we have wonderful collections of solid numbers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm

Radio does provide my music needs these days, for sure!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm

I used to do something like that too, chresti! Back when you could exchange CDs pretty evenly. I think all that ended when MP3 downloads made them lose their exchange value.

Byron Lee is the Carib version of Enoch Light or James Last - a million albums, little collector's value, but usually some fun stuff .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm

Yes, Rich, I noticed the last time I traded some cds in, some were new. I guess Discogs is a way to off load cds?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm

@Fab - Yessss, there is normally one great cut on every Byron Lee album, and so so so many albums.

Looks like I'll keep Discogs in mind when I start to unload stuff, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm

@Don - I do that, check Discogs and for anything I can do a good trade/cash with I put aside and know a guy I go through. Otherwise it goes in a free box here and friends stock up when they come over.
