Avatar 4:15pm TDK60:

Rev T.D., Fellini Satyricon is a trip.
Avatar 4:19pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

crap, I was thinking of fellini's 8-1/2. Rota did that soundtrack as well. Still need to dig Satyricon.
Avatar 4:20pm TDK60:

Rev T.D. 8 1/2 is a trip.
Avatar 4:20pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

After a lifetime of worshipping Jodorowsky films & hearing people compare his stuff (esp. Fando y Lis) with Fellini, had to finally start digging in..
Avatar 4:22pm northguineahills:

@the good Rev: love the work of Jodorowsky, and dig Fellini, but to me, totally different animals to me...
Avatar 4:23pm TDK60:

New Jersey is the U.S. state wherein exists the radio station, WFMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm dale:

hello. this music makes me think you folks should be discussing keaton vs. lloyd.
Avatar 4:25pm TDK60:

Dale: Buster Keaton was a trip.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm The Oscar:

@Rev I too am late to the Fellini party, and only saw 8 1/2 in the past year-- I'd occasionally wake up in a cold sweat worried that I'd be found out and my movie critic card would be revoked. I'm eagerly awaiting the Criterion Channel so I can resume my education.
Avatar 4:25pm Chris from DC:

New Headroom, yes please.
  4:25pm Brian in New Orleans:

New Jersey has WFMU and my wife's father Richie Havens chose to live in Jersey City. aint nothing wrong with jersey
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm The Oscar:

@dale I mean, Keaton for sure, but I do think Lloyd doesn't get his due.
Avatar 4:27pm Chris from DC:

They both did some insane stunts as I recall.
Avatar 4:27pm TDK60:

Brian in N.O. tell your wife, Richie Havens was great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm dale:

keaton was insane. no one did stunts like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Passaic River Blues:

Fondness for Jersey, this place I woke up in one day, but it absolutely would be the state to half-ass the cleaning of the dishes in the sink just so you'd never ask again.
Avatar 4:29pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Sad to say, for all my time in the WFMU camp (class of 1997), never had a chance to dig the great X-Ray. Best to all who knew & dug.
  4:29pm Brian in New Orleans:

@TDK60 will do ! thx
Avatar 4:30pm TDK60:

The state slogan of New Jersey is: Come See For Yourself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm dale:

chris t once said the state flag should be a one hand giving a sack of money to another hand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm The Oscar:

The General is another one I somehow only got to recently, and I was blown away by how ahead of its time it was as an *action* movie. Really not much ground at all between that movie and Jackie Chan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm dale:

haven't seen the general in 30 years. i'm sure it's on youtube as public domain.
Avatar 4:37pm хtina:

Jersey's a great place to live so long as you're not sitting on the chromium dump.
Avatar 4:37pm northguineahills:

I'd only catch 1/7 shows of X-ray,(usually listen to rekkids when not at work, and now got in the habit of listening to woofmoo during 'work' hours, but dug his commentary when I caught it.
Avatar 4:39pm Nick S.:

One Sunday afternoon, 10 years ago, I was in my backyard cutting the grass. I was listening to Glen and X-Ray and laughing my ass off out loud. This went on for at least 40 minutes as they were having some debate about who had the best ribs in the Jersey area, or some shit like that, and they had me laughing uproariously, out loud, pretty much the entire time. I stopped at some point to go in and get something to drink and my wife looked at me and said, "What are you laughing at out there?" not knowing I was listening to the radio, and I said, "WFMU to two of the funniest guys ever." and she was like, "Well, I thought you'd lost your marbles." RIP Kenneth Green.

yeh.. since '97, FMU has been a workday-hours thing here. But thanks to a certain roku app (tune in), can now stream live on the home system without dealing with patching computers into things. It's a whole new life.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Lindsey Buckingham had emergency open heart surgery recently and apparently has damaged vocal chords now.
Avatar 4:44pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

P.S.: if the WFMU roku app could be upgraded to have live-streaming, that would be lovely. Leaving gifts of roses & dead birds at the feet of whoever is developing digital stuff...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Carmichael:

Hey Scotty and music-o-philes. I ran across X Ray and Jonesy one lazy Sunday afternoon in my man cave. They were arguing about nothing, and pretty firmly taking sides. It was hilarious and stupid.

Yeah Carm. Cheers to FMUs Seinfeldians!
  5:08pm Kym:

@northguineahills Which Mark Hosler show did you see? We caught him in Orlando and Ft Myers and thoroughly enjoyed both! One show was in a small event space and the other was in a larger gallery but it sounded like he was also playing some bigger clubs with multiple acts on this tour. I picked up some posters, too! A Big 10-8 Place is now proudly hanging in my darkroom...

@Kym: It was in my friend's illegal small warehouse space, maybe 20 people.
  5:32pm Kym:

@northguineahills: That sounds like the perfect venue for this tour! I feel like the first show we saw (in Orlando) worked better, as it was a smaller, more immersive space. You felt swallowed up in the lights.

the conversation's moved on already but I heard somewhere that if Buster Keaton couldn't make a gag work on the first attempt he'd often just scrap the whole bit. so a lot of those crazy stunts were probably done in one take?!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm dale:

i wonder if there's a heaven and if we all make it there will we be sitting around our radios at noon on sunday's again...
  5:59pm P-90:

The truth about Keaton’s sight gags: they were meticulously planned and rehearsed. Nothing was set up or shot in any kind of casual, random, haphazard manner. The shot where the wall of the house falls is a perfect example. By the time the camera rolled on that one, the gag had been mapped out, the prop wall had been designed and built specifically for the gag, and had been raised and lowered many times around Keaton at different speeds to assure it would work predictably. The point is: the sense of spontaneity that causes the viewer to feel it “just happened” is there because Keaton wanted it that way and made it happen.
