"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Hey KfHP, you still got that sporty?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am Ken From Hyde Park:

Yep, holed up in the garage. If it gets into the 50s any time soon, I should take it out for a spin.
Avatar 9:16am crateslinger:

Awesome. Let's see if we can't get a WFMU Bear Mountain Run going for the spring. Gotta be some other riders on here. Maybe we can make it a fund raiser or something. Memorial Day weekend... spitballing

..you mean "curved," eh? [Riley]
Avatar 9:31am ranjit:

I guess "vurved air" is probably a typo but if it's not, that is an awesome title
Avatar 9:32am ranjit:

If Krimsky hasn't already used it, I'm totally naming something "a rainbow in vurved air"

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Brian in UK:

Hello Jihn

@crateslinger what BSA do you have?
Avatar 9:46am TDK60:

Sun Ra Arkestra should play Monty Hall. If they could fit.
  9:51am Polyus:

I hoped that was going to turn out to be a Bigfoot story.
Avatar 10:05am crateslinger:

@BiUK - I have a '64 A50 - which I guess used to be a Royal Star, but somebody had it bored it out to 650. Do you ride?
Avatar 10:07am crateslinger:

It was a basket case. Now it's a rolling project. Finishing off the top end.
Avatar 10:15am crateslinger:

my daily rider is a customized 2013 Triumph Scrambler. Not so daily today, but ya know...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am Brian in UK:

@crateslinger. Sounds good. It must be a unit construction then as the A50/A65 came out around 63/64. Single carb I would imagine.
My first motorcycle was a 1960 BSA 650 Golden Flash with sidecar. 637 YMY was the reg, some things you never forget.

Now I just potter around on a Honda CB500.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34am steveo:

this one is climbing the charts
  10:37am Drakkar:

i like this song, except for the way he says/sings love like "luff" -- i want to strangle him by the neck when he does that :)
Avatar 10:38am crateslinger:

Brian you are correct. Unit tranny, single Mikuni carb. I'm probably going to double that down the road. My first real bike was a lowered pre-unit 57 tiger. Love to have that one back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am Carmichael:

Heya JA and BFFs.
  10:38am davefromtoronto:

this is like a serial killer's love song...
Avatar 10:39am crateslinger:

this song should be called 30 years of marriage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am steveo:

it's a good and powerful song
  10:40am Polyus:

Re: Cyrnai, I stumbled randomly across a record by her old band Trial last year, really good peace punk/ sorta death rock circa 1986. Moments Of Collapse is the title. I had no idea who she was but then saw she had all this music after that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41am Brian in UK:

crateslinger. I did hasve an A65 kneeler outfit but it was too expensive to race. you need a sponsor for that game.

Right back to painting the walls.
Avatar 10:44am crateslinger:

Brian - there's a bunch of old timers here in NYC that race classis dirt track on weekends. Buddy even does side car. I haven't tried it, but this BSA is gonna be a scrambler so who knows maybe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Greg from ZONE 5:

Morning, JA & all!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55am steveo:

i heard some good jazz on wkcr last night. it was a little more straight up than this though haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:04am Greg from ZONE 5:

For a second I thought that said "Gunnar Hansen" and pictured Leatherface in a room full of synths…
Avatar 11:06am Rev. Turnip Druid:

egad, you people talking motor-sickles. In my 50th year on planet earth & finally decided to embrace those machines after a lifetime of ambivalence. Annual motorcycle show in DC next weekend. The customs are insane.

Avatar 11:07am Rev. Turnip Druid:

also. hello.
digging this vibe.
  11:08am Brendan:

@Greg, Gunnar’s getting the band back together
Avatar 11:19am crateslinger:

Sir Rev TD - are you thinking of buying a motorcycle?
Avatar 11:22am Chris from DC:

Hey hey
Avatar 11:23am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Crate: There is a 2-year plan involving first a baby machine to drop everywhere, followed by one worthy of obsessive care & feeding.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am ifeelfatnsassy:

Wait, so WFMU has an LP of Puce Mary's The Drought? I pre-ordered that in like July and my copy has been delayed and delayed...
Avatar 11:30am crateslinger:

RTD: I guess you'll be looking for something in the spring! There will be good sales and people looking to upgrade their used bikes or clean out the garage. I wish you the best of good luck and safety. Hopefully by the time you're up and running, there will be a bunch of us flying our freek flag up and down the Palisades Parkway!
Avatar 11:31am John Allen:

take that back, it was the CD i played. havnt seen the vinyl either
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am ifeelfatnsassy:

Ah, cool. That said, would be nice to get some sort of update from them.
  11:34am Polyus:

Paisley Underground vibe to this Steve Gunn track?
Avatar 11:35am Chris from DC:

A little Rain Parade to it are you thinking?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Carmichael:

Yeah, Davey Graham! Crazy but brilliant.
  11:38am Brendan:

Gravy, Damn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41am Brian in UK:

Crateslinger no matter how safe you are. It is the other guy that is sheathed in metal. Oh sorry, didn't see you.
Avatar 11:44am Rev. Turnip Druid:

thx 'slinger.
Definitely in the 'modern classics' camp. That triumph street twin is an Object Of Desire at this point.

As for that safety note: having been a city bicycle commuter since forever, I'm calling it a massive upgrade.
  11:45am Brendan:

On motorcycles, be safe . I know, duh.... it you love riding enough, and if you do it enough, chances are you'll die doing it. The trick is to put that time off long enough until you die from something else first!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am Booz:

Sarah Louise made a nice swerve this last release.
Avatar 11:52am crateslinger:

RTD - bicycle commuting is the best training. I was a messenger in the 80's and early 90's. Also, I really don't care about dying, or going fast, so win win!
Avatar 11:54am crateslinger:

The main thing is to never go around anybody. Ever. Except when you feel like it.
Avatar 11:55am Rev. Turnip Druid:

"Living is what scares me. Dying is easy."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am sphere:

hello. another US motorcycle rule seems to be "when driving on a highway, go as fast as humanly possible."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am steveo:

thanks JA; where did the time go
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Brian in UK:

Keep it under 90, is the best advice I heard.
Avatar 11:56am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Also: infinitely fabulous show, this here.
Avatar 11:56am crateslinger:

@sphere - yes, they teach that at the institute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am sphere:

oh yes--nice show and see you all in a bit.
Avatar 11:57am crateslinger:

Yes great show JA. Always look forward to Fridays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am steveo:

58 degrees in nyc on tuesday lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Booz:

I concur with Turnip & Sphere. Learned a lot from this show. Happy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am steveo:

maybe i'll bike home in shorts & t-shirt
Avatar 11:59am crateslinger:

I'll say one final thing - there is nothing more fun in the world than riding a motorcycle drunk. Maybe flying a plane, but I've never tried that.
