Vadalma is a transcontinental trio that performs new arrangements of Hungarian traditional songs. The group just released an excellent debut album, Music of Elderflowers. Vadalma is led by singer / composer / ethnomusicologist Zina Bozzay. Zina joins us to share her wealth of knowledge about Hungarian music, and to introduce us to the music of Vadalma. We'll also hear some of the source recordings that inspired the trio's versions - including some of Zina's own field recordings.

Great show, Rob! So great to hear the Hungarian language on the radio!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm coelacanth∅:

my nephew just left for hungary a few days ago, for 5 months, so this is timely for me...indirectly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Rob W:

Thanks very much Andrea! And well small world indeed coelacanth∅, I hope he enjoys it there! I suspect he may or may not be into folk music... but I am happy to connect him with Zina if he's interested - or if he gets interested!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm coelacanth∅:

Rob, we can hope for the latter. he likes mostly movie soundtracks,"anime" music and dubstep! (& some rock and pop-punk) he went there as an exchange student to further his russian language. (i don't know much more than that)
but he has an open and sponge-like mind so maybe he'll come back with a broader musical palette.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm coelacanth∅:

-and Thanks for the offer but knowing him his plate is overflowing already.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm Rob W:

Sounds like quite a kid coelacanth∅, I hope he has a great time!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm coelacanth∅:

i have my own design for a mellotron that would make it more versatile and less problematic (though not lighter) and i don't know why they're not making them this way now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Rob and Vadalma! Beautiful program!
