Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:00pm steveo:

did not expect that chord :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm RomanDogBird:

hell yeah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm Michael 98145:

Avatar 3:01pm Jeff Moore:

Ooh, tricksy.
  3:02pm $mall ¢hange:

mornin' party ppl! like Godfather part III, wfmu pulls me back in
  3:02pm Listener Robert:

So you did what Fabio's said he wanted to do for decades: cut off the "intro" from the previous cut of "Voodoo Party"!

I always liked those bars, though -- thought of them as the conclusion of the previous program.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm steveo:

yeah i like the bars too, is this a 45?
Avatar 3:03pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

GREAT SCOTT, in all my years of lurking these hair-waves i don't believe i've nickel-and-dimed before. Perhaps I am frightened.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm chris:

hey, $mall ¢hange and folks. was not expecting Last to be first for this fill-in. nice.
  3:04pm rw:

Howdy Mr. Giant ¢hange!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Joe D.:

oh shiiit it's $mall ¢hange in the $unshine
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm coelacanth∅:

Fabio's opening didn't always have that santana bit in the beginning. i always wondered why he added that.
  3:05pm $mall ¢hange:

I know what a friggin' concept
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm coelacanth∅:

greetings $¢ and others
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm steveo:

@coel it's the end of the previous track on the album -- i assumed it's there because the notes overlap
  3:06pm Ike:

Woah this is head-spinning. And what did you do to "Mr. Giant Man"? It sounded a little slower than usual maybe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm coelacanth∅:

Joe D, everybody Loves the $unshine
  3:08pm $mall ¢hange:

maybe...have it as a file. had the LP a minute ago, which I probably first bought cos of Fabio haha. that's prob why it didn't have the intro. maybe its all together on the LP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09pm coelacanth∅:

steveo on a James Last album? 'sounds like santana!
...anyway for at least a few years when Fabio started on fmu it wasn't there.
Avatar 3:09pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Can confirm steveo. Finally scored a copy of Voodoo Party last year. The first time hearing that previous track was very suspenseful: it's all just a prolonged build-up to those last few seconds...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Michael 98145:

.. such a sophisticated start !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm steveo:

ha i bet rev
  3:11pm $mall ¢hange:

there's some other decent cuts on the LP. haven't listened to it for a minute. out of the 1000 James Last records that's def one of the better ones
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm steveo:

@coel -- wonder why he switched. we'll probably not get fabio to discuss it.
  3:12pm Listener Robert:

I e-mailed Fabio to ask him ca. 2000 about it, just to get clarif'n of whether that was part of the previous show or his. He said it was just where the needle dropped when he took that off Voodoo Party, and that some day he'd cut if off. I asked him not to, because I liked it.

But sometimes he plays the Swedish version of "Giant Man", which of course came off another recording and doesn't have a piece of a preceding track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hï hö!
Avatar 3:14pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

During a recent trip to copenhagen, found a record store with about a hundred-plus James Last LPs, most in mint/sealed condition (no voodoo party, of course). Box sets & everything. Shocking to see so much Last in the same place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm coelacanth∅:

i remember Fabio once saying he doesn't really like James Last that much; but behold when Mr.Last checked out Fabio did a really nice tribute....pulled out lots of good music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm steveo:

you might be doing something right, mr $¢; I just clickied herbie hancock
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Michael 98145:

reminding me to dig out some of those Flora Purim discs
Avatar 3:19pm dale:

the failure of fabio to show up is a win win.
Avatar 3:21pm Lixiviated Life:

Dove sei tu?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm tim from champaign:

Has anyone RIPed Mean Gene Okerlund yet? RIP Mean Gene. I'm sure there will be some sort of tribute on Todd-O-Phonic's show.
  3:22pm ?:

. . . or the dude from Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm coelacanth∅:

might be some mention of it on Nick The Bard's show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm steveo:

wat about daryl dragon. can i get some captain love?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm tim from champaign:

Daryl Dragon wrote 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Yep, I heard some Mean Gene (and Super Dave Osborn) tributes on Nick the Bard's show earlier this morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm coelacanth∅:

he did a lot of work with Brian Wilson right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm coelacanth∅:

(or Carl Wilson?...Dennis Wilson?! )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm tim from champaign:

Or did The Captain write 'Love Will Keep Us Together'. I get so confused!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm coelacanth∅:

hahaha! tim that's it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm coelacanth∅:

such a good song, tupelo. never heard this version.
Avatar 3:29pm northguineahills:

drat, missed Pentangle!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Carmichael:

Also, my long lost friend Dean Ford from Marmalade and the Parsons Project. They all died within 24 hours or so of each other.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm tim from champaign:

Who's the vocalist on this Archie Shepp track?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm steveo:

amazing set
  3:40pm $mall ¢hange:

Jeanne Lee. I found some other out jazz records in the 70s she was on years ago. Blase is one of my favorite records
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar 3:41pm fred:

@RTD & steveo: Somehow The Long Rally's Hipnosis doesn't feel the same without Hatikvah leading up to it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm tim from champaign:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm steveo:

@fred i'm rarely at work in time for that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm steveo:

(i think never since the fall schedule started)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Michael 98145:

winter ain't going nowhere
  3:44pm Bill Main:

Jeanne Lee was married to Gunter Hampel and sings in several of his records.
Avatar 3:45pm northguineahills:

Ahhh, love this Leuter record, first one of his I got!
Avatar 3:45pm fred:

Then again, there's a band of busking musicians sometimes when I get to work, and they're prone to play Hatikvah. Not once did they segue into Hipnosis. I swear I'd drop a sizeable bill in their box it they ever do
  3:48pm $mall ¢hange:

right! it was some Gunter Hampel records that I saw her on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm dave wuz here:

dah badadda dee dah dah
  3:53pm Bill Main:

Maybe the Gunter Hampel record you're thinking of is 8th of July 1969 which features both Jeanne Lee and Anthony Braxton. Especially the track We Move.
Avatar 3:55pm fred:

@steveo: that was the transition from JM in the AM to The Long Rally, and it was seamless, though I don't think it was intentional
  3:57pm $mall ¢hange:

yes Bill that's probably it! thanks for reminding me gonna grab it
  4:00pm B z:

This is almost Danger Bird by Neil Young.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm steveo:

oh, right, well then i just missed it. I'll check out out in the archives (also wow, this show is another one i'll be checking out in the archives -- really enjoying today)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I see that Pegi Young, Neil's ex-wife, has passed away. RIP
Avatar 4:05pm fred:

@steveo: I'm not even sure it was archived properly, as Nachum was on the air and there was an online only show before Scott took over. Though there might be older shows archived before the alternate stream
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm TomDash:

Hey $mall change, great last minute pinch hitting. Used to the late night jams, but these are perfect grooves for the shop right now!
  4:13pm cheech:

daytime live $mall change. nice way to start the work year. PLUG4 4EVA!!!
Avatar 4:13pm northguineahills:

Only small change can segue from Morricone-Baxter-Astatke and make it work proper....
  4:14pm $mall ¢hange:

Avatar 4:18pm fred:

Brian pulled that kind of stuff too
Avatar 4:21pm fred:

That might sound bitter, I didn't mean it that may, only as praise
  4:22pm $mall ¢hange:

hahaha all good! I get educated from fmu all the time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm steveo:

@fred oh right of course. i'll let you know if i find anything. I don't think i ever listened to JA's web only show, unfortunately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Stanley:

I believe we've reached the event horizon of the baby boom expiration date.
Get ready for the avalanche of obits of the rich and famous (adjacent).
Avatar 4:45pm fred:

I've been proving myself a fool all too long today, time to go to sleep. Party on, young ones!
  4:52pm Theo:

Killing it this afternoon!!! Maybe lack of sleep suits you...
  4:53pm $mall ¢hange:

ummmm...no comment haha. I do enjoy sleep tho

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm common:

  5:50pm $mall ¢hange:

Douglas Wolk is no joke! stupid music head
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Passaic River Blues:

Missing daytime Small Change due to late work meetings is the greatest crime of 2019. I must soon repair to the archives to unfuck this situation.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm coelacanth∅:

Excellent program Mr.¢hange
take care
... and i hope Fabio's okay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Michael 98145:
