Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Good afternoon everyone.
Avatar 12:03pm hyde:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Doug Schulkind:

I request that you play whateverthefuckyouwant!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Uncle Michael:

dan! hyde! Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Franco Twinkie:

Hi Michael. Did you shop at Thrifty Acres as a youngster? Is it still there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Doug Schulkind:

Wait, I wasn't ready.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Rich in Washington:

Hello, UM! Diggin' the soundz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Uncle Michael:

Franco! Never heard of it! Rich!
  12:14pm dan:

Fitting that you're playing CCR, because I saw John Fogerty in concert back in June with ZZ Top. Excellent show all around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm thatpatsmith:

Happy New Year, Uncle M, and thanks for making Fridays so Friday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Uncle Michael:

Thank YOU, Pat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm dutchtheo:

howdy, all and his bobness, back from the outhouse, it was a hard row to hoe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Uncle Michael:

Theo! Try a corn cob.
Avatar 12:21pm northguineahills:

Even later Dylan sounds good (but not too late)
Avatar 12:22pm bigplanetnoise:

Are you broadcasting from the Keys?!?
  12:23pm dan:

The Vestibules sounds like a grownup version of The Muppets
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Uncle Michael:

No, Bob...I got locked out.
Avatar 12:23pm northguineahills:

I've heard this so many times on WFMU (the only place).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Franco Twinkie:

In the summer of 1974 I spent some time in Kalamazoo. We would go to Thrifty Acres, a big dumpy discount store, and get rainbow ice cream cones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Rich in Washington:

I remember when that Dylan tune came out. It got a bit of airplay around here. I remember wondering if he wasn't going for a (Island era) Tom Waits sound, instrumentally.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Brian in UK:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Rich in Washington:

Thrifty Acres sounds fun. Here we just have Goodwill and Salvation Army stores which have more or less smothered small mom n' pop thrift stores.
Avatar 12:25pm still b/p:

That was all Phillip Glass-y.
Avatar 12:25pm northguineahills:

Love the muppets' version of this the best!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Uncle Michael:

NGH! still b/p!
  12:25pm dan:

@Still b/p

Phillip Glass meets Jim Henson
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Rich in Washington:

We used to have a fair amount of Value Village stores, another corporate non-profit, which used to be great for used records. I think they got heat for not actually contributing to the charities they were supposed to service and many of them went out of business.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Doug Schulkind:

Jim Henson delivered papers (the Washington Star) when he was a student at the University of Maryland. My family home was on his route!
Avatar 12:29pm Sem:

UM, so good to see and hear you, and hello, the Hinky Dinky crew, and all
Avatar 12:32pm hyde:

i am curious about that swedish soft porn song
Avatar 12:33pm Sem:

@ngh: three flags in the world have dragons: Bhutan, Wales, and...?
Avatar 12:33pm still b/p:

I watched a segment of the Swedish movie a while back. Silly. How was I introduced to it? Through FMU discussion and music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Doug Schulkind:

Sorry, I said "4th annual" earlier. I will self-flagellate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm doctorjazz:

Hello Dinksteroons!
Avatar 12:37pm Sem:

Just until you need glasses, Doug. Mustn't get used to it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm Uncle Michael:

Sem! Doc!

Doug...shhh...I was lettin' it slide.
  12:38pm dan:

Fleetwood Mac needs to do another Blues album with the current lineup they have, as well as Peter Green.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Uncle Michael:

Sorry about the minor fuckup there...
Avatar 12:40pm northguineahills:

Well, this is a jewel!
Avatar 12:44pm northguineahills:

Hometown hero!
  12:46pm chresti:

Hi Dinkies! Listening while scrambling around, packing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Uncle Michael:

  12:50pm dan:

Good to see that you're playing the Bowie version of Growin Up, instead of Springsteen
  12:53pm Dean:

I just read a 62-page Residence and Services Agreement for a residential care facility for the elderly. Won't spoil it for you, but it's a page-turner.
  12:54pm melinda:

Hi UM and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Uncle Michael:

If the pages are perforated you an leave a copy next to the commode.

  12:55pm dan:

"Nothing Rhymed" was one of the songs I was going to request for next week's show. Thanks UM.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar 12:55pm still b/p:

I thought it might be Gilbert, but thought mabe some years later -- voice sounds drier.
Avatar 1:06pm northguineahills:

I prefer not to let my bias inform what a dj plays, otherwise I'd never hear anything new.
  1:09pm dan:

I just don't want a DJ to play "Don't Fear The Reaper" every single hour of every day like my local radio station has done for 15 years.
Avatar 1:14pm northguineahills:

@dan: That's why WFMU gets the exception.... (a hit song might be played once a week, if that [Felder doesn't count]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm jmd:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Uncle Michael:

  1:18pm dan:

Or once a year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Hi Uncle Michael! Nice to end the year (work year anyway) with you.
Avatar 1:27pm northguineahills:

Man, this is tight!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm Uncle Michael:

Lizzie! Thank you so much. Nice to have your ears here!
  1:33pm Johnzon:

oh contraire, I never post on the fmu comments board sober...
Avatar 1:35pm hyde:

cocaine and cheeseburgers doesn't seem like the best combo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Brian in UK:

So did Jeff Buckley, Randy California and Dennis Wilson all die by drowning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Uncle Michael:

They were all looking for Natalie Wood.
  1:38pm dan:

Or as The Comic Book Guy said in The Simpsons, "Loneliness and cheeseburgers are a dangerous mix"
Avatar 1:38pm hyde:

Johnny Burnette and Brian Jones drowned too
  1:39pm dan:

Natalie is the only wood that doesn't float.
Avatar 1:42pm northguineahills:

Got to run some lunch errands in a bit, happy new beers, UM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm Uncle Michael:

see ya, NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Franco Twinkie:

Dean! Chresti and myself are heading up today. You gonna be around?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm doctorjazz:

One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands (FOW)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm doctorjazz:

(I stayed in a Hotel Majestic in Ho Chi Minh City ,wonder if that was what they had in mind . )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm doctorjazz:

(different song ,but still wonder)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Uncle Michael:

A trip to Vietnam is something you should do before you get too old.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm doctorjazz:

Ok, I'm set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Brian in UK:

Before you cannot run across the road and look both ways at the same time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm doctorjazz:

Every FOW album is great ... Maybe the 1st slightly less, but still has great tunes (IMO, of course)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm Franco Twinkie:

Uncle M. I agree, Vietnam is fantastic! Glad I went when I did (1994) I can't imagine doing it now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Uncle Michael:

I was really juts riffing on the bit about China in the Fountains of Wayne song. I've never been to Asia.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Matt in Nebraska:

"Analógica (Bonus Track)" could make good use of Michael Shelley's Flintstones sound effect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Uncle Michael:

Matt...long time! Alas, I have no bongo feet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Dominick:

45 at 33?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Uncle Michael:

Dominick! rebajada!
  2:13pm chresti:

Is this slow mo?
  2:13pm Doug Schulkind:

45 at psilocybin?

Avatar 2:15pm barrett785:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Matt in Nebraska:

It's ok. I didn't think you did and the bongo feet are his thing. I just thought it would have worked well on it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Uncle Michael:

Sem, that would be purple chicha.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm Uncle Michael:

Probably see you manana, Pat.
Avatar 2:18pm still b/p:

Seems a regular thing for simple effects games to be played in many cumbia vocals. And it's mostly fun. And this is all a bueno+ set in the Hinque Dinque '18 closer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Uncle Michael:

thanks, sb/p!
Avatar 2:20pm barrett785:

I'll be here. Catching you live for the first time in a minute. Great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm Uncle Michael:

Thank you...I'm having a pretty good time. I'm glad I decided to punt that three hour Jimmy Buffett tribute. Key West kind of got to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Michael 98145:

Here's hoping for a better next year ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm Uncle Michael:
