Jesse Kaminsky:

Here's some text on the current piece, it's largely made of recordings of small electrical devices found around home and community: When we think of the concept of “place” we often do so in a context that focuses on vast exteriors. As field recordists we regularly position ourselves in grand locations with microphones directed towards the sounds of exotic forests, river systems, mountain ranges or the frozen Polar Regions. But what of the place in which we live - our domestic soundscape. How do our smaller private worlds connect with these public exteriors?

"AC" (alternating current) ponders on the relationship between home and its outer perimeters. Layers of field recordings convey the sounds of electricity that run between my domestic sphere and the local farming community and sub-tropical forests. Here electricity is an invisible, and often inaudible, thread that holds us to a bigger notion of place. It is a grid that dissects and connects the earth beneath our feet.

Half of my field recordings are from around my home. A quarter are w/in walking distance of where I live.

Jesse Kaminsky:

Hi northguineahills! Most recording accidents happen within one block from the home

And it's why one should never leave a loaded recording lying about the house.

I like this - it's like I have the window open, which I'm not about to do. Also, it would have been the window open about 6 years ago.

Jesse Kaminsky:

Hey Henry! I guess recordings are always a window to the past, though I know what you mean..

B/c I'm a masochist, I watched the recording of the c-span interaction of Pelosi/Schumer/Trump w/ Whitehead in the background. Probably kept me from popping an artery.
