I have already favourited this episode because I already know it;s going to be splendid.
Avatar 3:03pm Otis Fodder:

Hi all. Oliver and Dan programmed today's show. I'm just cueing up bits and getting a doctorate in Vaporwave. In all of our microphone lo-fi goodness.

Hey, Vicky!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Tracing vapours sounds *disgusting*. I approve ;-)
  3:06pm Martinibomb:

Oh Vickey, you're so fine
You're so fine you blow my mind, hey Vickey,
Hey Vickey!
Avatar 3:06pm Otis Fodder:

I keep saying "catching vapors" and that could be even worse!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Did she just say the E word???? BAD VICKY!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Soooo ... Vaporwave is every conversation on the EML? lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Webhamster Henry:

I like Veena, the Indian English voice.

Avatar 3:14pm Otis Fodder:

Hey Dan!
Avatar 3:14pm Oliverrr:

The internet has some great speech generators these days!! many are pay only, but you can load fun demo sentences .. (and use them in your music . . ; ) also lots of great contemporary 'musique concrete' releases coming out using robo-speech.. I should do a mix !
Avatar 3:14pm Archivist Vivian:

Oi! The Doctor of Airlines is in!
Avatar 3:15pm Oliverrr:

was that first track in this part of the mix sampling Men Without Hats ?
  3:15pm D_Rig:

eh, otis!
Avatar 3:15pm Otis Fodder:

Hello Archivist Airlines!
Avatar 3:15pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Vaporwave is a nice scene and it a lot of fun to create. I'm glad you're exposing the masses to it here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm chresti:

I love speech generators
Avatar 3:16pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Text To Speech is great. The best parts are finding weird sound effects you can make with them, and hearing what words they can't pronounce.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Gonna transfer to the tablet so see you all in the armchair! :-)
Avatar 3:18pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Such as saying "Gammuh-shao" for "Gameshow", "nah-chiss" for "nachos", and "s'NOW m'n" for "snowman".
  3:19pm Germaine:

Hi!! Listening...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm chresti:

haha! I laugh just imagining how that sounds
Avatar 3:20pm Otis Fodder:

Hi Germ!
Avatar 3:20pm Oliverrr:

Yes !! Exactly !! .. experimenting with robotic accents, languages, phonetics.. I should try making some robotic Twin Peaks red room talk : o
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

In the armchair :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm currently recording some Red Room speak for a new show ... Bit of a mind fuck to do but fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Webhamster Henry:

You should check out lyrebird.ai . Train it, and it talks like you.
I have lots of experience in tts.
Avatar 3:21pm Otis Fodder:

Georgy, going to be quite a bit of electric sheep daydream music, perfect for armchair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Armchair + crochet + SJR. Happiness :-)
Avatar 3:22pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

I've only ever used text to speech for not serious endeavours (silly videos, purposely dumb, silly music), it's always fun. There's a voice out there that sounds a lot like Yoda.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Webhamster Henry:

My iPhone App Enumero has a section that makes up words, but the only vowel it uses is schwa. And -- it's in my voice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm chresti:

I've heard something like this on Shirley&Spinoza- was not aware of the vaporwave
Avatar 3:26pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

For extreme Vaporwave aesthetic, go to a local mall and listen to this music. If the mall is run down and nearly abandoned, that adds an even better effect.
Avatar 3:27pm Otis Fodder:

chresti - I love S&S. Fausto mixed up a mean show!
Avatar 3:27pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

If you like this stuff, I highly suggest you listen to the K-Mart background music tapes. I've sampled them in a vaporwave project I did in mid 2017. It's really something. archive.org...
Avatar 3:27pm Otis Fodder:

Perfect desc Viv.
Avatar 3:28pm Otis Fodder:

I'm still going through those K-Mart tapes. Hope to get some of them on my next band release.
Avatar 3:28pm D_Rig:

your are currently listening to Eyeliner - Payphone - Buy Now.
Avatar 3:28pm Oliverrr:

woah ! .. Lyrebird.ai bookmarked !! Thanks for the tip Henry . . .
Avatar 3:29pm D_Rig:

I'll be playing another track by this artist later on.
Avatar 3:29pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

The K-Mart tapes are amazing. More have been added recently, from the SS Kresge days. K-Mart was originally called SS Kresge Department Store.
Avatar 3:30pm D_Rig:

I've only scratched the surface of those k-mart tapes... so much to go through @_@
Avatar 3:30pm Otis Fodder:

Viv - Whoa, tons more added. I downloaded when they first went up. Bookmarked. Thanks!
Avatar 3:31pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

I actually found out some really great Christmas organ music through one of the K-Mart background music tapes from a guy named Eddie Dunstedter (sp?) And it's some of the best Christmas music ever, next to Tiny Tim's christmas tracks.
Avatar 3:31pm Oliverrr:

DJ GeorgyGirl - what is your show about? is it on WFMU ? .. during my own Red Room mic experiments, i realized "Say Yes" .. is an aural speech palindrome. There must be others........
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hello! It's a second show I'm doing :-) Not the whole show, just tiny bits. I think I'd faint if I did a whole show with it. Lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm chresti:

Otis- that's where I first heard of you
Avatar 3:34pm D_Rig:

a bit of consumer ASMR for you folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Webhamster Henry:

@Oliverrr: there are lots of audio palindromes (not just "Number 9-uh/Turn Me On, Dead Man"). One I've been using for years are:
Funny enough?
Alice, selah!
Speaking backwards, though, is not as hard as you'd think. It's just unusual.
Avatar 3:34pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Haha. The Fabio album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Webhamster Henry:

Phoenix #2772 is a famous anime movie from the 80s.
Avatar 3:36pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Until now I didn't realise how much Otis sounds like Tim Heidecker.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

I'm gonna go quiet - still listening, but my hands will be occupied with yarn and hook :-) Enjoying and learning as I go!
Avatar 3:37pm D_Rig:

Webhamster Henry - yeah, this genre makes a lot of references to Anime.
Avatar 3:37pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Have fun! I may ride my bike to the mall and listen as I walk around in a bit myself. But I'll be in the chat for now.
Avatar 3:38pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

I should make more Vaporwave stuff. I have a good collection of Italo Disco music - I may do some with that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Webhamster Henry:

Martin Delhi - Bhangra flavored exotica.
Avatar 3:41pm D_Rig:

"Martin deli" exist if you look it up haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Webhamster Henry:

This disk was included in the WFMU Catalogue:

Weird Japanese instrumentals originally composed as soundtracks for Japanese TV commercials. If only there was stuff this interesting on American TV. Shimizu's a killer music pitchman, hit and run with sound collage, twittering computers, brief rushes from one type of music to another, repetition to lull consumers into a buying coma. This cd contains 23 tracks clocking in at two minutes or less, and one piece worked up for a computer animation short. Commercials Shimizu has composed and arranged for read like a Japanese Fortune 500 - Ricoh, Honda, Seiko, Shiseido, and, of course, Bridgestone.
Avatar 3:43pm Oliverrr:

Oh wow !! Great description !
Avatar 3:43pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

I'm a huge collector of production music, so this kind of stuff takes the cake.
Avatar 3:44pm Otis Fodder:

In the old catalog of curiosities, wow!
Avatar 3:44pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

I own some rare German electronic production music LPs in my vinyl collection.
Avatar 3:45pm Oliverrr:

A+ !
Avatar 3:45pm Oliverrr:

hey .. you left the mics on !! ; D
Avatar 3:46pm D_Rig:

naughty naughty!
Avatar 3:46pm Otis Fodder:

Riding with the waves and vapors... microphones lose control.
Avatar 3:46pm D_Rig:

; )
Avatar 3:47pm Oliverrr:

too funny .. that moment where we realize, and become self-conscious
Avatar 3:47pm Otis Fodder:

and i control the mixboard... baaaaaa ha ha ha ha
  3:48pm Martinibomb:

I like that you guys are kinda drilling into the anesthetics by playing the source material
Avatar 3:48pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Catch the wave.
  3:48pm Martinibomb:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Webhamster Henry:

I also have a bunch of production music records. Many are really pretty bad.
But I got into it about 50 years ago when my father brought home some 78's that were left in the office he was moving into.
Avatar 3:49pm Oliverrr:

ooops .. note to self, Clone plays @ 45rpm
Avatar 3:50pm Oliverrr:

(started with low voice)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Webhamster Henry:

This is weirdly reminiscent fo the "Little Baby Ice Cream" commercials.
Avatar 3:50pm Oliverrr:

production 78s ?? like 50s easy-listening ?
  3:51pm Martinibomb:

Does the equipment to make vaporwave have any bearing on the aesthetics.. i.e. using old 12bit/8bit samplers? I know that is important in boom bap.
Avatar 3:52pm Oliverrr:

ittle Baby's Ice Cream .. I'm on it .. this is great !!
Avatar 3:53pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

This one is a classic, it's only got two tracks, but it's from a documentary on screw compressors. www.youtube.com...
Avatar 3:53pm Oliverrr:

I think it's allll made on computers mostly .. for the vast majority !
But probably a lot of innovators using all kinds of things.
I would'nt be surprised is some of it was made on 90s style tracker software
Avatar 3:54pm Oliverrr:

Screw compressors.. lovely !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Dutchman Jan:

Hey! finally one I know!
Avatar 3:55pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

This is a Fairlight, isn't it?
Avatar 3:56pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

One of my favourite electronic musicians who also did a lot of production LPs, Klaus Netzle, is on this LP under his pseudonym Claude Larson.
Avatar 3:57pm Oliverrr:

oops, I said the name wrong on the Vorhaus track .. the blobby digital small print tracklisting made DIY look like OILY
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm DJ GeorgyGirl:

Surf Nazis!!!! I had the lobby poster of that on my living room wall in the late 80s :-)
Avatar 3:58pm Otis Fodder:

oops #23432408342234023432 ... welcome to the wonderful world of Friendly Persuasion.
Avatar 4:00pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

This track reminds me of a dystopian version of a track by Jean-Michel Jarre.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Webhamster Henry:

@Oliverr The records were in fact Roger Roger records!
Avatar 4:00pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Jarre, who is another one of my favourite electronic musicians, has put out some incredible work, and also used the Fairlight which I mentioned before.
Avatar 4:01pm Oliverrr:

har har !! .. oops oops oops.
but yes, DIY machine was fairlight i do believe !
Lobby poster, too cool!!
  4:01pm Martinibomb:

I just played the Surf Nazi's Must Die video game on my Amiga CD32 this morning. It's such a terrible game. I think nothing to do with the movie. hahah
Avatar 4:02pm Oliverrr:

Woah, I never knew there was a game of it !! .. Sounds like many of those game-movie adaptions on early systems ..
Avatar 4:05pm Oliverrr:

hah, Roger Roger.. I saw the compilation 'Musique Idiot' coming through my work, gave it a quick online sample.. fun bits, but I know it wouldn't get played much . . . . .
Avatar 4:08pm Oliverrr:

Good find though !!
  4:09pm Martinibomb:

Avatar 4:10pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

You should look into Jean-Michel Jarre's work. He had one album that only had one copy made of, and the master tape was burned. It's an incredible piece of work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Rich in Washington:

HA! I bought that Musique Idiot LP on a whim, unheard but it seems entirely unplayable within a show.
Avatar 4:12pm Otis Fodder:

I have had that Roger Roger LP, along with a couple other fun records (gags and animals something or other). The one that remains on my shelf is this one and actually fits in with the show today on theme/sound, www.discogs.com...
Avatar 4:15pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Selected Sound Library is one of my favourite production music companies. I own a few of their records on vinyl and one on CD.
Avatar 4:16pm Oliverrr:

ah nice .. I never knew Roger Roger made an album for plants !
Avatar 4:17pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Klaus Netzle and Mort Garson both made great electronic albums for plants.
Avatar 4:18pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

That's Plantlife and Plantasia, respectfully. Both some great pieces of work.
Avatar 4:18pm Otis Fodder:

Ollie - It is very tranquil.
Avatar 4:18pm Otis Fodder:

Those are great albums as well Viv.
Avatar 4:19pm Oliverrr:

S E I N W A V E !!
I know Plantasia, but not the other . . .
And I havn't heard much Jarre aside from Oxygene .. best place to start ?
Avatar 4:19pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Are you familiar with the other works of Klaus Netzle/Claude Larson?
Avatar 4:19pm Otis Fodder:

The Klaus album, is that Claude Larsons?
Avatar 4:19pm Otis Fodder:

Ahhh, same person. Did not know that.
Avatar 4:20pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Zoolook is a great Jarre album. Read up on Musique Por Supermarche. That's the album that he only made one copy of. It was scored for an art exhibit his mate did and he wanted it to be one of a kind. He burned the master tape. It's incredible stuff, it was broadcast on Radio Luxembourg and you can hear a poor quality copy of the album online.
Avatar 4:21pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Klaus Netzle is his real name, but he has released stuff mostly under the name Claude Larson. Also names like Carlos Futura, VC People, Elmulab, and has made music in groups such as Sax-Bone Connection and Power Pack, the latter of which I enjoy the most.
Avatar 4:22pm Otis Fodder:

I can get into Zoolook now and I like it. When it was released, I hated it. But I was 15 in high school. Funny looking back, it was so uncool as a kid, but now it's great!
Avatar 4:22pm Oliverrr:

I like that that Seinwave had canned laughter samples !!
Avatar 4:23pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

I actually have a nice story that spans several years on one of Klaus Netzle's Power Pack LPs. A guy from Iran posted a collection of electronic songs by unknown people to his youtube, and we became friends. For the next few years, we discovered many of these songs and who they were by. This one we discovered was by a group named Power Pack. I ended up doing a lot of looking and found the LP it was from on some shady German website and bought it.
Avatar 4:23pm Oliverrr:

Zooklook .. cheers, I'm on it ! Netzle too.
Avatar 4:24pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Zoolook is incredible. I was 15 and in high school listening to it through the hallways! haha.
Avatar 4:24pm D_Rig:

this is a mash up right now of Childhood & Delta Topcore
Avatar 4:25pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

I have probably over 30 of Klaus Netzle's records saved on my computer which I've collected since 2009. I own some one Vinyl and CD as well.
Avatar 4:28pm Otis Fodder:

Hairclub for Men: www.youtube.com...
Avatar 4:30pm Oliverrr:

classy !
  4:30pm Martinibomb:

now we're getting to the real nitty gritty
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Dutchman Jan:

Yes, this is catchy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Rich in Washington:

This reminds me of some of the nuttier stuff on the wonderful Illegal Arts label.
Avatar 4:36pm Otis Fodder:

Totally Rich. Like the 3 compiltions IA put out, Deconstructing Beck ++
Avatar 4:37pm Oliverrr:

yeah ! Love the Illegal Arts !!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Rich in Washington:

Kinda like Junk Culture. I miss that label. Bless 'em and all the groups on their roster.
Avatar 4:40pm D_Rig:

so SEGA!
Avatar 4:41pm Otis Fodder:

Philo T. Farnsworth, a round of applause, and all releases are free or pay what you want. Most releases are up from the catalog, illegalart.net...
Avatar 4:53pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

The singing on this track makes me think of Waterfall Person.
  4:54pm Germaine:

I'm curious if you guys are familiar with Paper Rad? Jacob Ciocci. Also Cory Arcangel!!
Avatar 4:55pm Mr Fab:

Listening as i wrap up the remains of our thanksgiving feast...giving thanks for this grooviness.
Avatar 4:56pm Oliverrr:

Illegal Art downloads.. Thanks for the Hot tip !
Waterfall Person ? (I just looked her up .. I dig it !!)
Avatar 4:57pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Waterfall Person is pretty excellent. I'm recording an EP of covers of her songs.
Avatar 4:58pm Oliverrr:

Paper Rad , why yes ! .. I had a DVD promo from work once upon a time .. gnarly! .. the other two, I'm looking up !
Avatar 4:59pm Oliverrr:

oh neat ! .. Do you have a music site Archivist Vivian ?
Avatar 5:01pm Don-O:

Pizza Run?! Lucky bastards.....
Avatar 5:02pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

I have several. deirdre-airlines.bandcamp.com soundcloud.com... www.facebook.com...
Avatar 5:04pm D_Rig:

hello chat… This mix will be more B R A T P A C K W A V E / Future Funk… hope you enjoy!
Avatar 5:08pm Oliverrr:

WoW, prolific bandcamp Vivian! I just randomly clicked on "I don't know how to use my keyboard" .. and like where it's going ! .. I will have a closer/wider listen after the show
Avatar 5:09pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Haha. I made that in early high school.
Avatar 5:10pm Oliverrr:

too cool !
Avatar 5:11pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

That was recorded as part of an unreleased tape that was influenced by the early works of The Residents. Many of the songs from that unreleased tape are on that Archivbox compilation.
Avatar 5:15pm Oliverrr:

I am a big early Residents fan.. sounds right up my ally !
Avatar 5:17pm Oliverrr:

Dan.. that last track was reminding a bit of "Space - Magic Fly" (1977)
  5:17pm Martinibomb:

I'm still a huge fan of the spaces in v a p o r w a v e -- it's awesome how that kinda worked it's way across the visual aspect of the music.
  5:18pm Martinibomb:

genre = pattern to me
  5:19pm Germaine:

Yeah, yeah!- Paper Rad, etc...look all that stuff up!
Just 'cause after listening to y'all's show for 2 hours now...I keep going: ooo!- these guys would totally love these other neat multi-media artists! (Which I *think* are in the same vein??)
Jacob (who started Paper Rad) was a local (Chapel Hill) kid here in the 90's, but I didn't meet him until much later when I helped with "Media Archaeology" in Houston. (2006?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Webhamster Henry:

Our local mall is dying in bits and pieces. But it's not completely dead year.
Avatar 5:19pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

I will walk around in malls and listen to music like this for fun sometimes. But I usually listen to the actual stuff and not the edited vaporwave.

Oliver - not familiar?
  5:19pm Martinibomb:

that sound of music playing in malls is very vaporwave to. I consider it part of the aesthetic
Avatar 5:21pm Oliverrr:

retro-future-funk ! (great vid too, as i just found out) www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Rich in Washington:

In the other part of the house, my wife is listening to Soma.fm station Groove Salad and it doesn't sound too many degrees off from some of this music.
  5:21pm Martinibomb:

My dad had a big cavernous machine shop that I worked in.. sweeping floors. the 80s AM stations would be playing kinda yacht/soft rock and I absolutely adore that sound in a big reverb drenched space. It really transports me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Rich in Washington:

I still have dreams of wandering through the malls of my childhood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Rich in Washington:

Yeah! Extra reverb! Definitely transformative to music.
  5:22pm Martinibomb:

So I think the sound of the spaces people heard the source material is important to the genre to. That's my argument.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Dutchman Jan:

still have a flip phone...
Avatar 5:23pm D_Rig:

Martinibomb - yeah mall reverb is definitely a big part of the a e s t h e t i c !
Avatar 5:23pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

I have a recording I made using those K-Mart background music tapes. I added reverb and put some of the "attention K-Mart shoppers" announcements spread throughout it.
Avatar 5:23pm D_Rig:

I'd say a staple even.
  5:24pm Martinibomb:

could be an elevator too.. tho like that no bass all high eq sound is totally there too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Rich in Washington:

My wife lost both her flip phone and digital camera again recently, nearly prompting me to buy her a smartphone, but she just about an hour ago came in to show me she found them. I dodged a tech tutoring bullet.
Avatar 5:24pm Otis Fodder:

As I get older the saturation of reverb in my brain increases 0.1db annually.
Avatar 5:25pm D_Rig:

Martinibomb - elevator, yes. Call-in phone music too.
Avatar 5:25pm Otis Fodder:

Oliver's projects: leftworldarchives.bandcamp.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Rich in Washington:

I don't trust me with reverb. I always say, when I dial in the amount of reverb that sounds right to me, dial it down 15% in mixdown.
Avatar 5:26pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

I'm only 23 and I got my first smart phone in late 2013. I was 18. I was pretty late to the party, too.
Avatar 5:26pm D_Rig:

Flip-phone haha that's what I got!
Avatar 5:27pm Oliverrr:

Cheers Otis ! .. subliminalprescriptions.bandcamp.com is the new site. (UFO tape is not there yet though.. once back in print)
Avatar 5:27pm D_Rig:

flip-phone fist bump!
Avatar 5:27pm Otis Fodder:

  5:28pm Martinibomb:

@D_Rig The John Cage aspect of the genre. I only use FB from my computer. Keeping it off my phone is a must! I don't use any of that stuff on my phone.
Avatar 5:28pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

I released a K-Mart themed vaporwave EP as a preview to a Vaporwave LP I had coming out. It was so much fun. deirdre-airlines.bandcamp.com...
  5:30pm Martinibomb:

@Archivist hey cool! I played your work on my radio show last year. yeah I dug this record! cool stuff
Avatar 5:31pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Oh, you did? Wow, cheers! I appreciate it so so so much.
Avatar 5:32pm Otis Fodder:

Yay! And Martinibomb has a new show right here, Medium Cool, starting... next week, right MB?
  5:32pm Martinibomb:

yeah! I remember your band camp that banner is funny
Avatar 5:32pm D_Rig:

There are some good articals on bandcamp that really delve deep in the vapor... daily.bandcamp.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Webhamster Henry:

I remember when I first got sampling, everything got really interesting. I walked around a lot with my binaural recording Walkman.
Avatar 5:33pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

@Martinibomb, my banner has a very long history.
Avatar 5:33pm Otis Fodder:

Thanks for the link Dan, will check out.
Avatar 5:33pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Myself, along with some of my other friends, have an obsession with the bloke who played the dad on ALF. I'm actually part of a podcast where one of the things we are doing is reviewing every episode of ALF. It's pain.
Avatar 5:33pm D_Rig:

; )
  5:35pm Martinibomb:

I can relate. I have a Joe Don Baker obsession I don't often like to admit to.
Avatar 5:35pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Max Wright, which is the ALF dad's name, was caught in the early 2000s on home video, smoking crack and copulating with homeless men. It's a running joke.
Avatar 5:37pm Don-O:

  5:39pm Martinibomb:

I wish I could post video here because I would put the scene where he "hands" Linda Evens a six pack with his toe.
Avatar 5:39pm Don-O:

CLASS ACT!!! MITCHELL!!! (beat that, adam Sandler!)
Avatar 5:40pm Oliverrr:

Heh!.. It's probably high time I watched some Alf. (very blury childhood memory.. I think I only saw it once, since I didn't have cable)
Avatar 5:40pm D_Rig:

Alright, I'll be mixing up some Future Funk for you folks.
Think Anime, think Sailor Moon, think glitter and tokyo city nightscapes.
Avatar 5:40pm Don-O:

An anime TV series is missing a theme.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Webhamster Henry:

Nice underwater filter there.
Avatar 5:41pm D_Rig:

thanks Webhamster Henry ; )
  5:41pm Martinibomb:

Has anyone redone the Ranma 1/2 theme in this genre yet?
Avatar 5:41pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

ALF could have been so good but it really wasn't. But I still love it. I have a weird relationship with that show.
Avatar 5:42pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

If you like some of this stuff here, you should listen to Junko Ohashi, who was a famous singer in Japan during the 80s. Unfortunately, she was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer, but she has an incredible voice.
  5:44pm Martinibomb:

oh yeah I like that stuff too.Junko Ohashi - I love you is a cool track
Avatar 5:44pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

www.youtube.com... This is a compilation album Ohashi released in '84. It's exactly what the album's name says. Magical. The cover art is beautiful. Being a New Yorker who had been to the WTC before the incident, it is kind of sad to look at.
Avatar 5:44pm D_Rig:

@ Martinibomb - I'm gonna say probably... I'm not familiar with that anime...
Avatar 5:45pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Eventually, I'll cover some of her songs. I have limited understanding of the Japanese language, even less than I used to, but if I write the lyrics phonetically I can sing them that way.
Avatar 5:46pm Oliverrr:

fun ! .. reminding me of some 80s Hi NRG !!
I'll check out the Ohashi . . .
Avatar 5:46pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Hi NRG is where it's at! Patrick Cowley was a giant. RIP.
  5:46pm Martinibomb:

@D_Rig please watch Ranma 1/2 you'll love it
Avatar 5:47pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Cowley is probably one of my favourite American electronic musicians. Most of the electronic music I listen to is from Europe.
Avatar 5:47pm Oliverrr:

For sure, he's great !!
Avatar 5:48pm Don-O:

I was a president of a anime club in LA many moons ago and I think can dream japanese, though I can still not understand it.
Avatar 5:48pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Did you get to hear any of the recently released Cowley music? He made a lot of crazy experimental stuff that the gay porn company FOX Studios used in their films.
Avatar 5:49pm D_Rig:

@Martinibomb - ah, just looked up... I haven't watched it but I've seen a lot of Future Funk tracks coupled with GIFs of this Anime.
Avatar 5:49pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

I had to take a language class for uni, and I took Japanese but I was in the hospital for a lot of the semester so I nearly failed, and I also forgot much of what I learnt.
Avatar 5:49pm Otis Fodder:

Friendly Persuasion Dance Party! Yea!
Avatar 5:50pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

I'm dancing in my head.
Avatar 5:50pm D_Rig:

@Otis - yeah buddy! ^__^
Avatar 5:51pm Don-O:

....in a mall in Japan.....?
Avatar 5:51pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Speaking of dance stuff. Did you ever hear the 2004 tune Call On Me by Eric Prydz? I've been revisiting it a lot recently. It's pretty great.
Avatar 5:52pm Otis Fodder:

Makes me want to pull out some of my hi-nrg / freestyle / hip hop late 80s megamixes on vinyl and tape now. Gonna do that in December.
Avatar 5:52pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

The music video for it is kind of stupid. It's just women doing sexual workouts in a dance studio. I'm probably the biggest lesbian I know, but music videos with sexy girls doing sexy activity is really boring to me.
Avatar 5:52pm Oliverrr:

Cowley's school daze ! great LP .. Great insert !!
Avatar 5:54pm Oliverrr:

looking forward to your hi nRG mix Otis !
Avatar 5:55pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Cowley was another great talent we lost too soon due to AIDS in the early 80s. Klaus Nomi was another. I spent a long time trying to find hard-to-find Klaus Nomi recordings back in early 2017 but didn't have all that much success.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Webhamster Henry:

This show was kind of fun, and a bit of a Music Appreciation show. I'll send it to my son, Odd Till The End :
Avatar 5:55pm Otis Fodder:

Thanks for listening this week! And a big round of thanks to Dan & Oliver for programming this week!!
Avatar 5:56pm Don-O:

Killer show as per usual!!!
  5:56pm Germaine:

I really loved this show!
All new stuff for me... I have now learned a bunch about Vaporwave just from listening to you guys talking about what you were playing and discussing the context and history- and all of this sparked my brain!
(I also made a note to watch "Vaporwave: A Brief History".) Thanks!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Webhamster Henry:

Record parties! I don't get to do them enough!
Avatar 5:56pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

Some great great stuff.
Avatar 5:57pm Archivist Vivian [Dr. Airlines]:

It's made me wanna go through my library music archives again and post some of the rarer stuff I have to YouTube.
Avatar 5:58pm Otis Fodder:

Germ - I am totally new to Vaporwave too. Great thing about having friends on, I get turned on too!
Avatar 6:00pm D_Rig:

Germaine - so happy you enjoyed! :D
Avatar 6:02pm OliverrrLewisss:

Thanks for having us on Otis !! Thanks for tuning in folks ! Some great recommendations for me to check out ... cheers !
Avatar 6:02pm Archivist Vivian:

Cheers, all. Had a lot of fun. Now it's Dinner time!
Avatar 6:04pm D_Rig:

Big big thank you to everyone for tuning in! I really hope this was a good intro / further delving of Vaporwave for all of you, cheers!
Avatar 4:48am Bill Kates:

This is wonderful. Buddy Runyon's page on facebook led to a rabbit hole that led to this show. I now love vaporware. Thank you for a thoroughly educational and enjoyable show!
