This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Hello Flash! Early-gonna run out for some coffee...
Avatar 6:51pm Flash Strap:

Hi Chresti!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm Franco Twinkie:

Your head and my body. What do you think?
Avatar 6:53pm Flash Strap:

lookin good Franco
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm chresti:

Franco-I can try to put my head on your body
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm chresti:

What is that image on top, Flash?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm Franco Twinkie:

Go for it, cheese doodle!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm listener james from westwood:

Evening, Flash and all!
Avatar 7:01pm Flash Strap:

Hiya james!
Avatar 7:02pm Flash Strap:

@Chresti: it's a piece by Arnulf Rainer, the Austrian (?) artist, c. 1969/70
Avatar 7:03pm Flash Strap:

love how sludgy and eerie this Blue Jay Way is
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03pm chresti:

I have to do it on the desktop at home...
Avatar 7:06pm Flash Strap:

uncredited Larry Coryell and Bob Moses on this record. Mike Nock on piano as well, who I don't know but is excellent here. produced by Herbie Mann
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm chresti:

that noodling on the side is great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm coelacanth∅:

hey Evan and Explorers
unfortunately have to hit the road soon but maybe i'll be home in time to catch part of the last hour.
Avatar 7:07pm Flash Strap:

absolute demolition of the song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm chresti:

hi again coel!
Avatar 7:08pm Flash Strap:

hi hi hi coel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm coelacanth∅:

i like this mellow yellow much better than the original ('much as i love Donovan)
Avatar 7:08pm TDK60:

Wow, mellow groovers. 'tsup?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm chresti:

does that demolition represent an acid trip?
Avatar 7:09pm Flash Strap:

not my fave donovan track by a long shot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm coelacanth∅:

hey chresti!
Avatar 7:09pm Flash Strap:

ah, hello TDK!
Avatar 7:10pm Flash Strap:

@chresti: could be, who knows, we haven't even started to peak yet tonight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm coelacanth∅:

maybe that demolition represented the orgasm!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm chresti:

welcome to the trip lounge TDK
Avatar 7:11pm Flash Strap:

some more rather primal orgasms in the mix for this evening as well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm chresti:

there was something too cute about Donovan's mellow yellow
Avatar 7:14pm Flash Strap:

a charge frequently leveled at donovan – usually, I feel, unfairly – but in the case of mellow yellow, I have to agree. tho i do like it. he just has a hundred better songs, many of which aren't cute at all, some of which are even cuter
Avatar 7:15pm TDK60:

chresti: of course, but I forgave him for it - it was the '60s, hee!.. there're so many other incredible Donovan cuts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm coelacanth∅:

not my favorite Donovan song either (also by far) but it was clever to create a pop song so cute that it became a big am radio hit, despite it being about a dildo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm chresti:

I can't Imagine playing an instrument while flying-except like one note repeatedly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm chresti:

one fave is Hey Gyp
Avatar 7:16pm Flash Strap:

@Coel: good point
Avatar 7:17pm Flash Strap:

the Gyp of "Hey Gyp" wrote In Tangier, as a matter of fact. good early donovan cut
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm chresti:

I've said that before, maybe here somewhere
Mellow Yellow went with Winchester Cathedral, to my 11 year old ears
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm Little Danny:

evenin' Flash & explorers
Avatar 7:19pm TDK60:

..don't get me started folks, I'm a Donovan Defender from way back, have argued for on other shows on Woofmoo Board. hah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm Franco Twinkie:

I like the cover of Mellow Yellow by The Iridescent Baloney Sandwich.
Avatar 7:19pm geezerette:

Hallo,Evan & gang!
Some velvet morning I'll relax and float downstream on Bluejay Way. :)
Avatar 7:20pm geezerette:

Great set!!! :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm chresti:

Yes -I don't fault him for that song and I'm glad it was a hit. I wonder how he feels about it. Do crowds scream for that song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm chresti:

I love Donovan-I liked his part in the Dylan movie
Avatar 7:27pm Flash Strap:

Hi LD!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm chresti:

I like Young Girl Blues...if that's the title. I use to sing it to myself often when I was 15 on, bits of it
Avatar 7:27pm TDK60:

..so...this is what it's like?
Avatar 7:27pm Flash Strap:

Hi Geezerette!
Avatar 7:27pm Flash Strap:

@TDK: fellow Donovan defenders you and I
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm chresti:

Avatar 7:28pm Flash Strap:

Donovan hangs out with David Lynch a lot these days
Avatar 7:28pm TDK60:

..I don't like *everything* by Bob Dylan either. hah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm chresti:

Avatar 7:29pm Flash Strap:

@chresti: that's a great song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Franco Twinkie:

And David Lynch use to hang out with Owsley I've heard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm chresti:

me neither. I never got used to his different singing style on Lay Lady Lay
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm chresti:

flash- I'd sing it on...Saturday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:34pm Franco Twinkie:

They did Kimo Sabe, right?
Avatar 7:34pm Flash Strap:

This album is so great
Avatar 7:34pm northguineahills:

Ok, Somehow both the original and the copy of a project due tomorrow got deleted. I went into a cold and hot sweat and got vertigo and felt like I was getting an aneurysm. Then I remembered I have non-visible folders w/ all of the data layers, so, I don't have to start from scratch, just cobble it back together. Ok, going to listen while laying on the office floor until my vitals go back to normal.

(Spectrum does a great song about Owsley).
Avatar 7:35pm Flash Strap:

Whoo, best of luck to you, NGH
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:35pm chresti:

There is (or was?) a David Lynch show Downtown-kind of a multi-media affair, I think- I lost interest when I saw that it cost $$$. For a worthy cause of some kind, of course, oh! it was for TM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Franco Twinkie:

Dude, you've got to sit down and feel the music.
Avatar 7:36pm northguineahills:

Fabio played Intersystems two years ago!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:37pm chresti:

ngh, that sounds familiar
Avatar 7:38pm TDK60:

far out
Avatar 7:38pm Flash Strap:

I'm glad TM works for him and everything but I know some people who've gone to those TM events of his and I guess it felt pretty Mary Kay
Avatar 7:40pm Flash Strap:

supposedly everyone on this record was tripping, and had it been released it would have been the first such record
Avatar 7:40pm TDK60:

..is this lysergic "library music"? hee
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm coelacanth∅:

okay packed and leaving see ya in a while
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm chresti:

ew! Mary Kay. Or Silva Mind Control
Avatar 7:42pm Flash Strap:

everyone seems to be tripping on this Madrigal as well
Avatar 7:42pm Flash Strap:

nice savage theremin usage
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm chresti:

safe travels coel!
Avatar 7:45pm TDK60:

..saw Wilson do the 'Pet Sounds' show this summer.
Avatar 7:45pm Flash Strap:

adios, Coel, catch you on the other side
Avatar 7:45pm northguineahills:

Well, this BBs is what I needed to clear my head, second best to using psychedelics to clear the cobwebs in my head....
Avatar 7:46pm Flash Strap:

i've always preferred this lyric to the final version, even tho the recording isn't as good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm doctorjazz:

Beach Boys, that's a treat!
Avatar 7:46pm TDK60:

..what instrumentation! overwhelming (Ego)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm chresti:

We saw Wilson at Hollywood Park, he was with his doctor, walking out
Avatar 7:49pm Flash Strap:

@TDK: how was it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm chresti:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:52pm Franco Twinkie:

I wonder how many of the studio players, if any on Pet Sounds had a special potion before they went into the studio. Beach Boy trivia doesn't let the cat out of the bag on this one.
Avatar 7:52pm Flash Strap:

this cromagnon LP is truly one of the great works of the 1960s, imo, incredibly ahead of its time, while also being entirely of it
Avatar 7:53pm Flash Strap:

Pet Sounds - maybe even none? SMiLE sessions - definitely, no question
Avatar 7:53pm TDK60:

..it was great. Brian's a bit stiff now (stroke?), sings only part of the vocals with Al Jardine & his son filling in lyrics. By the end of 'Pets' ('Caroline No') I was in tears; they did much else too. Great 11-piece band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm chresti:

this is a great day-o
Avatar 7:54pm Flash Strap:

8-foot JOINTS!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm Franco Twinkie:

Sauce on a Joint - Hash oil?
Avatar 7:57pm Flash Strap:

i have no idea, Franco. could mean so many things
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm chresti:

He looked stiff in the late 80's to 90s. My husband then, worked with him on a television special
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm chresti:

Avatar 7:59pm TDK60:

I was impressed by Al Jardine's dedication to his music, sort of conducting with his hands, singing well, playin' guitar, banjo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm Franco Twinkie:

Kind of sounds like side four of Freak Out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:00pm chresti:

@Flash, what track were you referring to-everybody on acid?
Avatar 8:00pm northguineahills:

Evan is full of good ideas, especially the Pet Sounds.... (vitals getting back to normal).
Avatar 8:01pm TDK60:

..didn't know that chresti.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02pm chresti:

I've got a bowlful of niacin and vitamin C....if things get rough
Avatar 8:02pm Flash Strap:

everyone's on acid for sure during the LSD Underground 12, open question whether the same is true of Madrigal or Cromagnon. quite a few records where that's the case, including one Funkadelic and a couple infamous krautrock classics
Avatar 8:02pm TDK60:

Franco: I heard that similar percussion feel.
Avatar 8:03pm Flash Strap:

@NGH: thanks man
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm chresti:

Certain psychiatric medications, can cause stiffness
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm Little Danny:

This Pederson is incredible and wholly new to me
Avatar 8:08pm northguineahills:

ok, back to normalish, leaving work to go chill, thanks Evan!
Avatar 8:09pm Flash Strap:

@LD: it's a really nice electroacoustic record with a great provocative title
Avatar 8:09pm Flash Strap:

adios NGH, have very nice chilling
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm melinda:

hi chums!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm Little Danny:

hey Melinda
Avatar 8:13pm Flash Strap:

Hi Melinda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm Franco Twinkie:

Melinda! You can't come to this party unless you leave your ego at the door.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm Franco Twinkie:

...but you can keep your shoes on.
Avatar 8:15pm Flash Strap:

i will never have a no shoes policy here in the room
Avatar 8:20pm Flash Strap:

what a great album this is
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm chresti:

I like electro-acoustic
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm Franco Twinkie:

Agreed, Flash. However, sometimes it does go into Ultimate Spinach territory.
Avatar 8:25pm geezerette:

Floating in space with a smile on my face.
Everything is groooooooooovy, maaaaaaaaaaan....

But seriously, the Beatles were the well spring / touchstone of all this!
  8:25pm quinn:

love this
  8:26pm quinn:

I meant the rat a tat tats but heck I LOVE IT ALL
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm Little Danny:

Brilliant recontextualization of that Coney Island LP. Dang.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm melinda:

1959? wow.
Avatar 8:27pm geezerette:

Totally loving this show. :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm melinda:

nevermind, it's the Monkees I'm hearing.
Avatar 8:28pm Flash Strap:

Hi Quinn! so glad

Thanks LD, geeze
Avatar 8:38pm geezerette:

Single Wing Turquoise Bird, LA liquid light show artists in the '60s.

Avatar 8:40pm TDK60:

I have that United States Of America LP. They had an electric fiddler, kinda new then. synth. "Coming Down" has great fuzz bass. "Clouds" real spacey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm chresti:

I was done with the Monkees by the time Head came out, first time is today, I think, that I've heard it
Avatar 8:43pm Flash Strap:

Head is a great film, check it out. some good nilsson stuff in it too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm chresti:

ooooh! geezerette! Franco is a big fan!
  8:44pm mauri:

heyyy walking back home n listenin. sounding good
Avatar 8:44pm Flash Strap:

Hey mauri!
Avatar 8:44pm Flash Strap:

@TDK: Clouds is an amazing cut, yeah
  8:45pm mauri:

good to be in time.
Avatar 8:47pm TDK60:

DJ FS: Coming Down seems similar in sound to early Soft Machine (the instruments, not voc.)
Avatar 8:48pm Flash Strap:

I agree re coming down
Avatar 8:48pm Flash Strap:

i almost cued up some early soft machine for this evening
Avatar 8:51pm geezerette:

Chresti, yay!
  8:51pm mauri:

foggy town here . perfect
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm doctorjazz:

Been enjoying the show, now I gotta go.
Catch you later!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm Little Danny:

Whoa, thought this was early Kraftwerk for a sec. Incredible.
Avatar 8:53pm Flash Strap:

Meant to say hi to you earlier, Doc! and now I have to say bye?
Avatar 8:54pm Flash Strap:

@LD: this is a wild one
Avatar 8:56pm geezerette:

That advancing / retreating thing was everywhere. (in music) I'm sure it's an equivalent to something commonly experienced on LSD but I have
never "been" experienced.
Avatar 8:56pm Flash Strap:

I know nothing about these artists from the CAPAC series, but I need to look into them, as this is all very interesting. will report back
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57pm chresti:

this show has been mind altering
The Bonnier makes me think of Pierre Bastien
Avatar 8:57pm TDK60:

..yeah, Flash, get on that and get back...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm doctorjazz:

This Menard is fabulous, but I gotta go, get some dinner, go home (hard to leave...)

Avatar 9:03pm geezerette:

The Camarata is lovely. :)
  9:04pm Dean:

This Satie was ubiquitous in the '70s.
Avatar 9:04pm Flash Strap:

weird record - for a "switched-on" it's not that adventurous, but the liner notes are super tripped out and if i recall they made claims to have been visited by Satie's ghost
Avatar 9:05pm Flash Strap:

Hi Dean! yeah, I bet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm chresti:

Avatar 9:09pm Flash Strap:

this Grayson and Oberheim LP has one of my favorite synth recordings, ever... i've played it a few times, i believe: "Ostinato"
  9:09pm quinn:

Ah I love this too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm passiflora:

Geezerina, I fell asleep, but I did see you made mention of The Single Wing Turquoise Bird. I reference to what I don't know. But I will say this: No one can beat them! Saw them a couple times recently. Amazing!!!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm chresti:

Yeah-it's oily liquid on glass-a slide, right?
Avatar 9:22pm Flash Strap:

the art of the movement is the trick, it seems
Avatar 9:23pm Flash Strap:

this Moog Mass is most of the creative personnel of Tonto's Expanding Head Band, btw
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm chresti:

the music is enjoyable @Flash
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm chresti:

@Electric Corona
  9:27pm Dean:

Why has Mussorgsky been run through the ringer? I was just thinking this morning how I, and probably most of us, learned Pictures via Ravel, and so now we listen to the solo piano piece as an arrangement of the orchestration (which is an arrangement of the piano piece). And of course, ELP.
  9:29pm Dean:

One of the best synthesized versions of classical: Reverberi's self-titled album from 1976 or so.

Hi LD!
Avatar 9:47pm geezerette:

Evan, here's a link to Canyon Cinema and David LeBrun's extraordinary film,"Tanka". I saw it once, years ago, and I remember it as almost as a projected collage of fast moving mandalas.
I could be wrong about that, but I think you'd dig it.
He was one of the SWTB originators.

This has been a wonderful show!!!
