  3:51pm Lyle:

The Hollies. That was a band. I recall one wintery North Dakota night. Pembina, I think it was. A high school prom. At that time, I was doing a brief stint with the Pozo Seco Singers, that is, until Don Williams got too big for his britches and left us. Anyway, we were doing a few dates with the Hollies on a swing through the northern states, and they were amiable enough fellows. Not exactly at the height of their fame, in fact, they were at a bit of a low career point, I would have to say, and were a little dispirited, to say the least. They had gone from headlining the larger sheds of the day to, well, playing proms in North Dakota. We, on the other hand, were used to a lower level of fame, and were content to forego our own original compositions to play Color My World, or whatever the kids and the chaperones wanted to hear. --- At one point, I was smoking a cigarette on the playground with Graham Nash. His might not have been a traditional cigarette, come to think of it, and his thoughts and actions were a little bit "out there" to say the least. All of the sudden he started wailing on a tetherball, striking it as it went round and round its mooring pole, its little rope getting shorter and shorter as it made its diminishing orbits. It was a bit of a metaphor, in hindsight, for a man at the proverbial "end of his rope." He was cursing under his breath as he struck the ball, with each slap of cold rubber, he would say the name of one of his band members, not with disdain, neccesarily, but with the deep fatigue and desperateness of a man who had had quite enough. He was over being a Hollie. He mentioned to me that he had been dallying with the idea of joining up with Stills, and Nash, and that he was quite taken with a young woman named Joni, but that he was contractually bound to the Hollies through 1971. At this point, he physically used his boot to kick and bend the tetherball pole, and I had to beg him to stop. "Stop bending that pole," I said. To which he replied, "sod off," as he walked away, and that was the last exchange we ever had. I read in a Crawdaddy magazine not long after that he had split The Hollies and had taken up with the afformentioned Stills and Nash. In actuality, I did a few gigs with The Hollies, trying to substitute Nash' high soaring vocal notes with matching trombone parts, but, it just wasn't working and the band grew to resent me. That's how it is for a 'bone player. They need you, but they hate you. It goes with the territory. Great show Todd.

OK - consider my mind blown. I saw Rocky at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in SF and it was kinda depressing. I think the "Bluegrass" tag throws artists in that they try to get too "rootsy ". I thought Rocky might be slipping. I was fucking wrong! This ROCKS!

Do us all a favor tide and stick for the music. Stay the hell out of politics especially when you're spewing lies about a man was giving you the Lewis Black and Latino unemployment in history and you're trying to make him out to be some kind of racist. We also have the lowest unemployment since 1969, Isis reduce the 1% of the land is used to hold which means I can't read Christian girls around the clock like they used to or so people on fire we are 4% GDP growth for the first time in ages or energy in the planning for the first time since the late 50s. We Are The Poisonwood finally after 40 years has told the Chinese to stop screen is over and it's called the Europeans to play the wrong way. So once again, do us all a favor and speak with music and stop speeding the fucking bullshit you've been spewing about politics.

  5:07pm sissophonic Cheryl:

This is freeform radio, it's appropriate to give your opinions from time to time. If you don't like what you are listening to, you are completely free to listen to something else. It's important for people to stand up for what is right at this point in history, especially when they have a platform like this. We have to stand up and be counted on the side of right. Very proud of you, Todd, thank you again for your words.
  5:07pm Sean B.:

It's not too hard to cry
In these crying times
I'll take a broken heart
And take it home in parts
But I will never fade
I was in this place
By the first church of the city
I saw tears on the face
The face of a visionary
Though I will disappear
To join the street parade
Disappear and fade
Into the street parade

The Southern Accents album sans Dave Stewart involvement one of the all-time Petty what-ifs

Why the pro-confederacy songs after the anti-Trump (anti-racist?) talk and drive by truckers song?
  5:17pm medson:

Checking in late. Show sounds great TOPT
Avatar 5:17pm elkeno:

There's a Rolling Stone article on TP & Rebels...a quote "“Look, this was to illustrate a character. This is not who we are. Having gone through this, I would prefer it if no one would ever bring a Confederate flag to our shows again because this isn’t who we are.”"
  5:18pm ?:

the petty song isn't pro-confederate. The subject's
Confederate identity has trapped him into a life of failure in a modern world he doesn’t understand and cannot navigate.
  5:19pm ?:

and if you think drive by truckers are 'pro-confederacy' perhaps try google
  5:22pm prudy:
