Ridgewood Radio features concert recordings by adventurous bands and experimental musicians and restored archival tapes from private and institutional collections captured at venues large and small across the five boroughs of New York. It is produced by David Weinstein and Outpost Artists Resources operating out of the Ridgewood section of Queens, NY, where you'll find more yellow bricks than on the road to Oz and the cemetery of your choice is never more than a few blocks from home.

steveo! I think he was one of the earliest masters of circular breathing, kinda magical.

yeah wow

Great recording this Torikai. Wasn't Trane already quite adept at circular breathing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm
steveo:

i would imagine playing and breathing like this has a meditative quality -- continually focusing on the breath
Avatar 3:24pm
geezerette:

steveo, reminds me of haroh Sanders.

And Steve Lacy. But they all used it for different effects.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm

Doug! There is a rumor that you are coming to NYC! And Ruth says hi!!!!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:06pm
Doug Schulkind:

There was once an ugly rumor. Then he moved out and we rented the space to someone much more optically appealing.

geezerette:

That was so beautiful!
Avatar 4:21pm
geezerette:

That song really jarred me when I first saw the movie. It's a cocaine reference, the gong thing. Carmichael's tune and voice are so beautiful that the lyrics are like screeching brakes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
weinstein:

Bang the Buddha's Gong is code for an opium session.

Wait, Jeremy was in my band, and I played w/ Dok (who then allowed me to crash at his place as I was going through a rough time). I had no instruments, just my sampler and whatever he threw in front of me, fun show!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm

Hey, chresti! I think FMU has been the soundtrack to the creation of half the art out of NYC in the last decades. And now globally!
