'80s Don Cherry... I remember liking that '80s sound back in the '80s but then it got cheesy fast. (Not just Cherry but lots of stuff.) I'm slowly coming back around.

coel, I knew of The Muffins in the late '70s or early '80s from being a fan of Fred Frith whom I knew of from being a fan of Eno. That guy was a conduit for so much stuff in my late childhood it's crazy.

i didn't hear the Don Cherry track. (was in the kitchen looking for a mouse) but i'm not coming around at all to the cheesy poseur 80s. i'm also not jumping on the i like all those shitty disco songs now even though they sucked then and don't not suck now but i'm tricked because of nostalgia bandwagon. i'm getting older but i still don't need uncreative soul-free music.

rw that makes it even weirder, being very into Eno through the majority of the 70s and being somewhat aware of Frith. i used to by records just because they were produced by Eno. i discovered ultravox! that way and my initiation into drone music (aside from "i'm not in Love"- 10cc) was buying (no pussyfooting) simply because it was Eno.

coel, I have to admit I like disco a lot more now than I did back then. Maybe in part because of nostalgia but probably more because it only pops up here and there. But every once in a while I'll hear a bunch of disco songs in a row and it will remind me of why I hated that shit so much at the time!

- well the truth is i did like a few disco songs back then, and there are a few artists i *kind of*? liked well i definitely didn't hate - like Donna Summer...but most of it was disturbingly shallow (lyrically, of course, but also musically) and often just mimicry for fame & money. (like the bee gees)
