@Olivia It's one of my favourite venues in London, And every Saturday afternoon there's an event called Daylight Music, where three artists play a set – different people each week. Entry is by donation and it's one of the truly great things about this city. They've had people like Laetitia Sadier, Piano Magic and Sweet Billy Pilgrim, but also a 1940s orchestra, a handbell ensemble and a show of Bond theme covers. It's marvellous.
Avatar 12:13pm northguineahills:

I am reading Camp of The Saints. It is what happens when 800,000 dirt poor people from India show up in 100 ships in the south of France. It was written in 1972 or so, so it is not so afraid to not be PC.
Avatar 1:31pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

It is not afraid to confront:
1. What do the former colonial powers owe the Third World?
2. Should they take them all in and go broke in the process, and thus destroy themselves as a society?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Devin B.:

Neil, we all tolerate your point of view, but that book is white supremacist propaganda. Please keep it to yourself.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Passaic River Blues:

"Camp of the Saints" is 100% a racist tract, beloved by the Le Pens.

too much stuff gets de-contextualized and appropriated these days. that book sounds interesting, just as 1984 and Brave New World are these days.
Avatar 1:43pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Joe-it IS an interesting book. The guy in the bookstore said he read it, and I am pretty sure he is a lefty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm joe mulligan:

as long as we digest these things at face value with the context of the time it was written, we all can learn about how as humans we can all try to get along together on this planet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm Michael 98145:

( this always makes me smile : www.cafepress.com... :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Passaic River Blues:

@Joe: It's not de-contextualized. Raspail is a noted and famous racist. His aim was not to "try to get along together on this planet" but to foment hatred. It's basically the French "Turner Diaries".

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm sphere:

Neil, you can read Mein Kampf and not be a Nazi. But if you are reading a book like MK and say nice things about it, other people online might want to make sure the audience knows more about it than just the nice things.

  2:17pm JakeGould:

@WildNeil: The amount of immigrants coming into the U.S. irregardless of methods has been continually dropping for years. Every person who has been deported could still be let in today and the rate is still low. It’s not just that it’s like racist, it’s uniformed and based on paranoid fantasies.
Avatar 2:18pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

How DARE you call me that! I do not engage in name calling, as you do. I am not an attention troll. That is a convenient appellation you heard that you think applies to me. Why don't you go jump in a lake and mind your own darned business? I happen to have views that do not coincide with yours so you decide to tar and feather me with that moniker?
  2:21pm JakeGould:

Whatever your point of view is, why you show up at WFMU playlists to share them is past my comprehension.
Avatar 2:22pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

This all started with "what are you reading these days?". It was an honest answer. So what if I vote differently than you? Do I chastise you for YOUR voting choices?? Or religious beliefs??!
Avatar 2:23pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

Klein sounds like Prince played at 16-2/3 rpm.
  2:25pm JakeGould:

Someone asking casually what you are reading and your endless “DJ, please delete my comments…” posts are two different things.

I have just read “The Outsiders” and beginning to read a bio of Cab Calloway.
